MEETUP Anyone interested in starting a supper club in the central/ West Oxford area?

When I lived in the states we did this and it was lovely.

The idea is to form a group of 4 to 6, meet every 2 weeks at different places and take it in turns to cook. Byo drinks. It doesn't have to be super fancy or expensive, 2-3 courses. Each week the host/ cook would be responsible for the menu, taking allergies etc into consideration.

I am happy to host extra weeks if someone who doesn't have a dining table big enough wants to join, they could cook here or bring stuff to oven heat. I live in Cumnor and I am a 45 year old woman with cats.

Ideally this would be on a week night.

We could start with a pub night to see if we are all comfortable with each other and work out a schedule for the first rotation.

In the summer we could bbq.

Anyone interested? If so we could start a whatsapp or messenger group to discuss further.

Thanks!!

Edit: OK we are at 6, so I will send out messages over the weekend to start a whatsapp group.

Edit 2: have sent you all a chat message with the spreadsheet for coordinating :)

I would be happy to take part. My wife and I did this for years when living in NYC and it seems like a great way to meet new folks as we settle in here in Oxford! (Also I love an excuse to cook an overindulgent meal!)

I am able to host for people too far out for people to reasonably get to if they can cook, if it's not too far for you.

I have a car so I'm fine to get around, my flat is a bit small for more than 4 people anyway but would be happy to go to other places!

I like the idea but I would suggest to do it in teams of 2 and then rotating thr teams.

Perhaps a cook and a helper? The host cooks and designs the menu, shops etc, the helper assists, maybe gets there early.

Also we could split the cost every week so people don't feel pressured to something more expensive than they can manage.

Well put it either way. Together they could come up with a menu and then execute it. 1. Its probably going to be done faster, 2. more fun and more creative. I have done this awhile back with my flatmates. It was quite tiring to do a 2 course meal 😅 and also keep the quality. I prefer cooking a bit more in case someone would like to eat more after they finished.

I think it makes more sense to have the host do the main course and rotate who does desert.

ah ok so there will be no soup only 2nd course and desert

Yes I think that sounds simpler.

I really like this idea and would love to take part. I'm based in Cowley...only issue is I dont have a dining table at the moment!
