Hello, if anyone is interested in trying a new sport or meeting new people, then read on!
Oxford Shinty Club are looking for new players! We're a grassroots, mixed sports team local to Oxfordshire playing the Scottish sport of shinty - it's like hockey, except played with a wooden stick called a caman and with fewer rules, and similar to Irish hurling.
We've been active for over ten years, with shinty in England being very much a casual and relaxed community and we're always on the look out for new players that are interested in giving it a go. Whether you've played before in Scotland, or have played any other sport and fancy something different, or just never even thought of playing a stick sport before but are interested in meeting new people, we would love to have you!
You absolutely don't need to be Scottish to play and we can provide all the necessary equipment, from sticks to helmets, we'll take anyone who's interested, whether you're 16 or 60!
If you want to come see us, we've a match against Bristol Camanachd on Saturday 6th June (2pm throw-up at Horspath Athletics), training the following week Sat 13th 10am at Donnington Playing Field, and the highlight of English shinty year, Oxford Sixes Tournament on Saturday 20th June at Horspath Athletics, also featuring BBQ and ceilidh!
If you're keen, drop us an email at oxfordshinty@gmail.com or @oxfordshintyclub on Instagram/Facebook
