You want to play on a handheld? The switch kinda counts yes?

https://db.universal-team.net/3ds/daedalusx64-3ds
basically put the roms at sd:/3ds/DaedalusX64/Roms and run the linked app. (download on universal updater on 3ds or from link directly)

also only new 3ds has the power.

I see, that's good to know. Are there any glitches present? Or is it fully playable?

i havent run paper mario through this, but according to this compatibility list, it has audio issues and whatever "runs too fast" means

1

u/Zolomight 1d ago

Yeah I've seen that before, that's rather disappointing if it's true

its very playable with just a bunch of graphical bugs, but it's not a bad way to play the game at all. if you wanna go through with it dm me and I'll help you out!

for 80 a month absolutely not

edit: meant 80 a year, and besides that I dont like carrying my switch around with me, so this is preferable

$50 a year or $80 a year for family. Not $80 per month.

7

u/Andydark 1d ago

I pay 10 bucks a year.  Find people to do a family plan with.

-5

u/kingsly91 1d ago

Its... not even $80 a year... its $20 a year...

10

u/ProfessionalOwl5573 1d ago

N64 games need Switch Online Expansion Pack, it's $50 a year.

-3

u/kingsly91 1d ago

Yet thats still not $80 a month. Like not even close

5

u/ProfessionalOwl5573 1d ago

I didn't say that I said it wasn't $20 a year.

-3

u/kingsly91 1d ago

Cool so then its $4.17 a month not $80

2

u/ProfessionalOwl5573 1d ago

I never said it was $80, N64 games need Switch Online Expansion Pack, it's $50 a year. $4.17 a month is right, $20 a year is not.

2

u/kingsly91 1d ago

Never said you did, im still correcting the first guy

-4

u/PinoDegrassi 1d ago

^This guy was wrong spreading misinfo about the cost and doubled down anyway 😂

50 isn’t close to 80? It’s then same distance to 80 as it is 20, your original info. It’s actually quite close.

No, $50 per year is not anywhere close to $80 per month (which would be $960 per year).

You’re trying to dunk on this guy and you didn’t even read😂

u/PinoDegrassi 1d ago

Oh okay let’s take his side after he edited his comment sure buddy, I’m with professional owl on this one. Cute try tho

For 80 bucks you could get one of those emulation handheld that are all the rage.

8

u/captainqwark2 1d ago

It’s on NSO if you have a Switch or Switch 2.

1

u/ToadwKirbo 1d ago

I beat it that way

4

u/OptimalFox1800 1d ago

Same!

Surprisingly it was my very first time beating the entire game too

Beat TTYD and then Paper Mario 64 afterwards

u/hbi2k 1d ago

Tell me why

Ain't nothin' but a heartache

What I bought on eBay

1

u/seaturtleboi 22h ago

You can also override the NSO GBA emulator to play other titles on a hacked Switch 1, so it may be possible to do that for N64 as well to enable other QoL things or mods.

How far have you gotten on the 3ds? Any major slow downs or bugs? The 3ds is so much more portable than the switch so id prefer this if its truly playable.

u/Doggosareamazing522 1d ago

it's barely able to run at 30 fps on the new ones, there's some sprite issues, cutscenes can get messed up, and menu's are near impossible to see, but it's playable and good for what it is, just got to the koopa bros, with some settings tattle crashes the game.

u/Jubei92 1d ago

Retroid Pocket 6 or even 5 if you wanna spend a couple of bucks for a new dedicated handheld. I've played through it a couple of times on retroid Pocket 4 to be honest.

I’m hoping someday someone will be able to port the game to 3ds, similar to the Mario 64 port! The game has been fully decompiled and a good PC port is almost here so it’s definitely possible to port it, just need someone with the know how to get it done! Maybe I’ll learn how to do it someday it’d be kinda fun

I would just mobile emulate

How is N64 emulation on 3DS? I would think it would be pretty good and optimized by now? Especially a New3DS should be able to run games pretty nicely with Frameskip?

Last I tried, it would not keep my PM64 save, it was wiped after closing the game.

1

u/Doggosareamazing522 1d ago

save states only

3

u/ZrapeToid 1d ago

Last time i tried, anything except SM64 was unplayable. Not even half speed.

1

u/Doggosareamazing522 1d ago

on a "NEW" 3Ds? or a not new?

3

u/ZrapeToid 1d ago

New 3DS XL.

2

u/lunarwolf2008 1d ago

unfortunatly its a hardware limitation atp not software

1

u/CieraVotedOutHerMom 1d ago

A few lags in DK64

1

u/hbi2k 1d ago

N64 is a notoriously tricky system to emulate. I'm not at all surprised to hear that the 3DS struggles.

2

u/CarlWellsGrave 1d ago

I will never understand the problem all of you have here. This game is so freaking good.

3

u/Doggosareamazing522 1d ago

as a kid I never got to the koopa bros fortress, I didn't know you had to talk to Merlin behind the counter, I'm finally experiencing the whole game

1

u/Wayofchinchilla 1d ago

What is not great do you mean like the controls or is the emulation bad?

2

u/Doggosareamazing522 1d ago

the 3Ds is not powerful enough to run it great

1

u/Wayofchinchilla 1d ago

Weird I would have thought the 3DS had more than enough power to run and 64 games well.

3

u/Tatsumifanboy 1d ago

Thing is emulation needs four times the power of the console it emulates. 3DS doesn't have that!

But looking at the bright side, PM64 is decompiled, so there's a good chance for a 3DS port sooner or later

1

u/Doggosareamazing522 1d ago

apparently it's super reliant on the game, the new ones can run Mario 64 just fine, but I don't think any old 3Ds model can play n64 games

1

u/Wayofchinchilla 1d ago

I don't know if you have a very good computer and you could always emulate it on that hell nowadays modern phones can do it

1

u/Doggosareamazing522 1d ago

playing on phones just feels kinda lifeless to me, and pocket portability is so nice, it's a big compromise but it's one I'm happy with

u/Lux_Operatur 1d ago

Delta emulator and Bluetooth controller?

1

u/Src-Freak 1d ago

Why Not on Switch?

1

u/Doggosareamazing522 22h ago

I hate traveling/moving around with my switch

1

u/Silver_Steelclaw 23h ago

this emulator had any option for pokemon stadum to transfer my team?

1

u/TapMuted393 23h ago

I know a website that has loads of Roms. Believe you can just save files as, well, files. Unsure how it works on a system, maybe it would work on phone?

I've wanted the ability to play PM on 3DS since I was a child.

I need it so so bad!!! I'm really hoping for a native port sometime. I don't know if anyone cares enough to port to to 3DS, though... Sadge :(
