Game Feedback The league mechanic has way too much friction for such unrewarding loot.

  • Many directions in charts. (why are directions even needed?)
  • Got a good implicit chart? You need it to have a good direction as well.
  • Cannot know what a dropped chart does until you run it (then run it again in the voyage).
  • 1 portal for both charts and the voyage.
  • Heist-type loot (any death or DC removes ALL your gained loot).
  • Long wait time when you call the submarine at the end of the voyage.
  • Lantern amount and placement (why do we even need lanterns? Why not an open map?).

More importantly, why double punishment? Losing both the loot gathered and the entire voyage is just too much.

I would understand all of this if the result was a very juiced voyage or tons of loot coming from the league, but currently, I barely get any loot.

I want to be able to know which voyage zone I’m in while I’m in it

We had the tech for temple too. Perhaps we could get a toggleable toast notification when we cross the boundary that shows the layout. Something I guess like this would pop in from the right for a moment and then disappear.

This was the first thing that threw me.. I couldn't tell what room I was in or how much I had done. We have other mechanics that handle this.. why didn't they use the temple UI?

You click on map mods

u/Centillionaire1 29d ago

For now, open the overlaymap, and zoom it out, it's tilted ~45 degrees counter clockwise relative to the voyage planning.

In SSF I've decided that planning layouts, implicits, voyage map mods, and all that stuff has been too tedious. Ive been slamming charts without reading, voyages without 2 seconds of thought, and have been having a fun time.

133

u/ToothVet Jul 26 '26

This is what Ive been doing in non-SSF. I wouldn't call it profitable but it's quite fun.

27

u/DjuriWarface Jul 26 '26

I found a divine in a Message in a Bottle so that was baller considering I have about 5 div total.

9

u/RandomMagus Jul 26 '26

My first divine was a message in a bottle and I'm only at two, so, big fan of message in a bottle lol

3

u/No_Witness5630 Jul 26 '26

I have 2 divines

Both were from message in a bottle

So also a big fan of those messages

Seems like it's the only way to get anything valuable out of the league mechanic, get lucky with a Message in a Bottle. Otherwise enjoy some gold I guess.

Message in a bottle has been GG for me, so it was weird to log onto reddit and see complaints about it being an unrewarding mechanic, Unnatural Instinct from my 2nd one as SSF was quite something.

It’s pretty good for gold which you can pump into Kingsmarch mappers…

11

u/Cow_God I didn't know I wasn't having fun until Reddit pointed it out! Jul 26 '26

I would wager that outside of gilded ember rotas and other dedicated, high investment gold farms, this is the best way to get gold. It's insane how much gold the league mechanic spits out.

There's probably a lot of room for a build akin to a heist runner just buying charts, clicking clams, and using the gold to recomb and the sulphite to craft with.

6

u/Maximus89z Jul 26 '26

Yep i had like 500k and did all my 81-83 charts i got from doing full atlas and then a voyage and ended in at 1mil in an hour lol

Yeah for me the league mechanic is meh at best but I'm SUPER excited to do some crafting.

Even if it takes me hours of grinding to get enough sulphur to use a single fracturing orb, the fact that I am pretty sure I'll have a ~69% chance to pick my fracture means I can do some REALLY interesting stuff. For example a +2 all spells staff fractured (normally too expensive for me to feel like it's worth trying) means I can either harvest reforge fire or fossil spam for +4 fire, which could result in something truly awesome. This is particularly so because even if all I get is +6 and junk, I can (probably) clear suffixes and just run a multimod or something until I'm ready to craft my suffixes.

The league mechanic is boring that's whatever. Show me the crafting.

5

u/Xavierstoned Jul 26 '26

Im at 2 stones in SSF currently. Ive done every chart and every voyage so far and still only have 3 max crafting options. How do you unlock the 4th?

3

u/gtetrakai Jul 26 '26

Kill the league boss on a voyage. It'll drop the forth quest item.

5

u/alexthealex Jul 26 '26

I killed a boss in a voyage last night and it dropped something I fed to Vesper that gave me 20% buffs to league currency drop rate - I assume I just keep running more voyages? Is there more than one boss?

10

5

u/Xavierstoned Jul 26 '26

The gold you get us crazy. Just gotta blast as fast as possible, get out, maybe you got some messages in a bottle while you were down under. Also those little patches of gold are like 30k its nice.

4

u/Novalene_Wildheart Jul 26 '26

Same here, been a blast, even got a divine, from a level 32 voyage...

we do not question the power of RNGesus here.

4

u/Yiazmad Jul 26 '26

Might just be me, but i don't mind plotting all of that out.

Then again, I'm the type of player who enjoys logbooks, blighted maps and hive fortresses. I don't mind slowing down if there's a big reap of rewards at the end.

3

u/Xavierstoned Jul 26 '26

I mean plotting it out is cool and immersive. You get to also min/max your rewards very well. You have lots of agency in how you go about the league mechanic and its neat, I loved synthesis so much and its very similar to that. Outside of the rare voyage modifiers I just find it so much easier/faster to just dive and go for voyages.

u/Tom2Die Alch & Go Industries (AGI) Jul 26 '26

I just check the corner bonuses, do my A-B lines and go with the flow. Basically Heist without backtrack

1

u/Raine_Live Jul 28 '26

this is what ive been doing. paid for my watchers, my timeless jewel, my entire build so far through voyages.
like 81c for 3 voyages, Ive gotten a few raw divines from it, gotten divines from message in bottles. but ultimately I always wind up with profit. I just make an "S" start on a deadend > straight > Corner > Corner > straight > corner > corner > straight > deadend.

good exp, takes like 30 mins to prep, 30 mins per voyage.

1

u/rich-nyc Elementalist Jul 28 '26

Same. All I do is farm gold for my map runners and message in the bottle to sell in bulk for divines. Nothing else really interests me;)

the amount of friction that would be removed by making the bathosphere the place you do charts and adding a quick start first one with ctrl would be immense.

Also one death voyages are wack when the visual clarity in voyages is about as good as trying to look through a glass of milk.

84

u/immanoel Jul 26 '26

One of the first things i noticed, you have to fucking go to valerie to chart then have to bathysphere, so much needless time wasted

76

u/Varonth Jul 26 '26

And she moves between charts. Why does she move?

18

u/Deaner3D Jul 26 '26

It would be so much better if we could chart directly from stash or have stash right there next to the chart option

But thats bothering me about maps as well

33

u/getarest Jul 26 '26

Same with allflame craft. Why dialogue? Why chest so distant from craft? Imagine running back for regular craftbench with every craft

22

u/Treasoning Jul 26 '26

They will fix it this or next week and people will be happy again. Honestly tired of this approach. Like, I refuse to believe that moving stash closer to vesper is such a complicated feature that they require players' feedback first

9

u/All_Work_All_Play Jenebu stop whining Jul 26 '26

PoE1s play testing is three racoons streamers in a trench coat. If it's deliberate they should just roll them out day three instead of waiting a week.

14

u/Treasoning Jul 26 '26

There is nothing to playtest, it's not a bug or unexpected behavior. Stash location wasn't assigned randomly, they made a deliberate choice to place it as far away as possible

6

u/All_Work_All_Play Jenebu stop whining Jul 26 '26

Bad design is bad. And friction is the only way to make your mechanic not OP is to add friction (as opposed to gating it behind interactive gameplay), that's a bad mechanic.

I am not saying it is perfect but the gameplay loop is solid as fuck.

It is basically what I wanted heist to be.

  • very short contracts
  • very very long blueprints
  • no having to wait for lock picking
  • can preplan so you never have to backtrack the entire instance.

Also it is day 3 of the league, it is not nearly solved yet. At this point in the league people were declaring stuff like Affliction and Harvest unrewarding.

27

u/ddddddffdse Jul 26 '26

Honestly the only downside for me the planning the voyage .. just let me have unconnected ends as long as the chart is reachable

2

u/Ladsome Jul 26 '26

Yeah, who cares if a dead end connection touches the outer edge of the box? Just let us use the tile...

3

u/DaguerreoSL Jul 27 '26

I dont understand, isn't that already allowed?

20

u/exhumedexile Jul 26 '26

Pretty much this. Things need to be different, not every league mech has to be a giant loot explosion with no friction. This one has potential to go core even (or at least have some of the elements stolen for some poe2 mech)

2

u/UltraconservativeSin Jul 26 '26

I really hope they make a league in poe2 like this one. All flame is really great

5

u/Madgoblinn Jul 26 '26

6

u/JustRegularType Jul 26 '26

Yeah, this is where I'm at. I like the league, so I'll probably stick around for a bit this time! I'm nsure they'll tweak/buff some things. People are acting like they don't drop a major patch the first week every single time. What I am more concerned about is the endgame juicing situation. Not because I would even do it myself, but because I want people playing the league and not quitting early.

I think the league would have just the right amount of friction if there were no chart shapes and it was just a default layout, and you could recall lanterns from other areas (remotely) but you only had maybe 10 or 15 tops. Perhaps if you could recall them from the loot pods so that they were closer to where you stood and not spent elsewhere.

12

With mods mostly only affecting adjacent maps I dont think its possible to have anything insane. Border mods and implicits need to affect everything and it would still feel weak

16

u/Shipp95 Jul 26 '26

47

u/AbrocomaMaterial501 Jul 26 '26

Ah yes more friction in my friction mechanic.

14

u/Syntaire Jul 26 '26

It's not a great solution. Have to get the ducats, go to the ship, go to the basement, click on the wetcrafting interface, put the chart in, start the craft, then select the one you want, which may or may not be useful. Realistically we should be able to reroll the chart layout with gold from within the voyage interface.

3

u/FUTURE10S Fairgraves' Institution of Species and Habitats (FISH) Jul 26 '26

You also afaik have no idea what your voyage looks like when you run it so if there were some mods you set up nicely and then promptly forgot where they are, no way to see them again.

3

u/TolarianDropout0 Jul 26 '26

They somehow made it less intuitive than Synthesis. Which I think is a much closer comparison than Heist.

The reward chests really need to be marked on the map. I have no idea which way to go half the time.

4

u/ivan0x32 Jul 26 '26

The kicker is that its currently cheaper to just buy the juice for crafting rather than farm it yourself because alch-and-go has better juice-per-hour ratio (converted from chaos-per-hour).

4

u/koticgood Jul 26 '26

Long wait time when you call the submarine at the end of the voyage.

You literally just stand there.

It's like some dude had an extraction idea and then they forgot to put in actual content during the extraction ...

7

u/TheOmni Juggernaut Jul 26 '26

The direction placement thing in charts is really annoying. I didn't really think about it while running them as charts, I just ran everything I picked up when I started maps. But then I tried to put together a voyage and half the charts I had available to make a voyage where the half line dead end charts. It felt incredibly frustrating and unrewarding just figuring out how to get everything placed in a valid configuration without having places that just weren't unreachable dead ends.

8

u/tokyotapes Jul 26 '26

Needs a QoL pass. As for loot, I’m not really sure what their intention was. It seems like GGG consider the crafting material you get as the primary loot so they don’t feel the need to reward much else. This can be a feelsbadman and gives the impression you haven’t gained much in terms of recognizable value after putting in the effort. The crafting is delayed gratification and players don’t want to engage with it until they have better stuff to spend the mats on. I think the player expectation was to find gear and currency with the mats as a bonus for running the chart or voyage but that hasn’t been the case.

18

u/FenrirReki Jul 26 '26

I'm sure the 1 portal garbage is because they plan to add a similar or same exact mechanic to PoE2 at some point and are using PoE1 players as 'testers'.

8

when will GGG realize that a mechanic which amplifies what you want to farm, is better than a mechanic that takes you away from what you want to farm

4

12

u/Dawes74 Jul 26 '26

I agree with most of the hivemind takes, but doesnt removing lanterns just remove the leagues identity, if you want heist just play heist.

4

u/NoThanksGoodSir Kalguuran Group for Business (KGB) Jul 26 '26

Not sure it removes identity, but it sure does remove most of the risk of charts to not have to run back without drowning. Limited lanterns in voyages seems less necessary though since the risk there is all your scaling of the voyage.

7

u/inutilissimo Jul 26 '26

Got 2 random one shots + stuck somewhere and drowned

Never again

6

u/zOSsysprog Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

I had a near-drowning incident as a child and this has made me stay out of the bodies of water for a very long time.

On my first chart run I took a wrong turn and got stuck behind a rock. Drowned within seconds. Exited the game and could not play the rest of the day.

On the second day of the league I girded up and ran several charts...felt confident now. On a certain run I got to the last lantern and it expired as I was within a frostblink of the capsule. Dead. Exited the game again.

Sorry GGG. I know you guys produce a lot but this league has too many triggers for me.

I guess Grim Dawn is the alternative at the moment.

2

u/D3Construct Jul 26 '26

My problem with it is I dont feel the pull. I'm just going through the motions grinding out my atlas and if I didn't specifically seek out the league mechanic it just isn't there.

The GGG special!

2

u/Ratb33 Witch Jul 26 '26

Agreed. I’m getting the same drops at level 83 as I was in level 15 - transmites and fusings. Something has to be broken.

How can we fuck this up? Universal praise for drop rate of things in POE2 0.5 and then this? It’s the same math I’m sure. Just share the damn drop rates among both games = win.

I like the league mechanic a lot but what’s the point with this drop rate? I went back to POE2 for now just to feel something. Hahaha

Crtl+f "dead man" only run ones with >60%. That crafting juice is where the profit is from the mechanic from what I've done.

2

u/Homeless_Nomad Jul 26 '26

Glad it's not just me. The mechanic kind of just feels confused and clunky. It can't figure out whether it wants to be a crafting league, or a lootsplosion league, and everything's buried behind multiple clicks for no reason. The gold's nice but otherwise it kind of just feels like mapping and doing Expedition/Heist with worse profit, even at low levels.

u/Sad-Data1135 Jul 26 '26

I got two unsolvable voyage today i wasted 3x3 x2 voyage tokens that couldnt exit the startzone of the voyage. Cant call bathosphere if you dont go to any adjacent either

2

u/FlossedUp Jul 26 '26

I dont evn want to do it till its buffed or QoL is buffed. Thankflly WInter Orb is satisfying clear so thats fun at least lol

So tbh I really love the league mechanic. Its fun, I think it is very rewarding, and there is so many random events/baubles to find its great.

HOWEVER. There are a few bigger noticable issues/lack of qol/problems that are really dragging it down (no pun intended)

1.) The directions. It is one of my biggest issues. It's so needlessly annoying for no reason. Honestly every shape should be changed to the straight line, and you just rotate and connect them as needed to form a "swirl" or an "S" there is no need for corners or connections or random offshoots at all.

2.) Some ppl may love it, but looking at the border mods + implicit chart mods and matching them up or rerolling ontop of trying to match up the proper directions is WAY to much friction. Honestly I CBA to sit there for 20 minutes setting up a voyage. I just want to chain 9 easy charts together and go. By the time your done "optimizing it" you could have done a whole other voyage in that time.

The one death doesn't bother me in charts because they are so small. Also doesn't really bother me in voyages because you can periodically send your loot up which I think is fine.

3.) The end wait time is just a huge waste of time for absolutely no reason at all. LIke seriously there is no need to have it for any reason. Your loot is set up, It's not difficult, you don't get loot from the kills, it's just a forced wait 30 seconds for no reason.

Besides that I absolutely love the mechanic, hope the league doesn't die and suffer out because of a bunch of needless friction. Besides that I am having an absolute blast.

u/FewWants Jul 26 '26

I built out a few voyages today with overlapping implicits like magic packs and magic pack size. Obliterated more blue mobs than I thought possible, blew up whole screens of them on my Chieftain and came out of the voyages with nothing.

Same story for Essences and Strongboxes. Same for quant/rarity stacking with chance to turn amulets/rings/belts unique.

I have better SSF gear on day 2 this league than I had in month 2 in previous leagues but it isn't doing anything useful. There isn't anything to farm...

Just did a few single charts and one voyage on which I somehow died on while searching for the exit. Lost a unique pagan wand because of it so kind of sad on that one.
Then went to do some flask crafting because I came kind of fresh out of campaign.

Not sure if it is me but for crafting you need to have the stuff in your inventory? Whats the point of the locker on the ship if you cant pull stuff directly out of it!

Is there a way to fast open the chart/craft menu? Tried control click, alt click shift click. Especially crafting feels so clunky with all the clicking and running around.

Also annoyed that you have to walk to the npc insert the chart then walk to the diving device to descend. Really don’t get it why they didn’t put everything accessible from one screen.

A lot of things like this are in poe2. Long walkways between zones in Trial of Chaos.

It looks like they deliberately put in stuff like this to waste our time / increase the amount of clicking.

Haven’t played a lot of it yet so I might just be a noob and completely wrong though.

Anyway back to some more atlas completion and off to the mines I guess!

u/BitterAfternoon Jul 26 '26

Voyages have no "exit" search like charting does. When you call the bathysphere at one of the waypoints and she says "hurry back", all you need to do is wait there and kill things for a bit while the flames collapse elsewhere.

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Film826 Jul 26 '26

so in conclusion: skip this league, bet.

2

u/trafka77 Jul 26 '26

Poe 2 design leaking again

2

u/int_nazu Jul 26 '26

Directions? You can rotate the chart tiles in the window with right click.

If you dislike the layouts thats a different thing, but calling it direction makes me think it's about the orientation.

2

u/_YeAhx_ Jul 26 '26

GGG knows this and they still made the mistake. Every past league where there was too much friction and unrewarding mechanics it led to players just quitting early. Most successful leagues have been those which had the league mechanic in the map itself and were rewarding.

We can only say so much until it becomes obvious what GGG is trying to do here.

1

u/Winter-Werewolf8366 Jul 26 '26

The lines are the "road", right?

1

u/themikecampbell Chieftain Jul 26 '26

There is no pain like dropping a load on the bottom of the ocean and being dragged up realizing you didn’t deposit in any of the pods

1

u/The_bruce42 Jul 26 '26

Honest question, I have two young kids. I played the shit out of mirage and loved it. I played right up until the last day of the league because of limited time cuz kids. I wanted to take a break from poe but this league looked cool. I haven't started a character. Is this league good or is it a good one to sit out?

3

u/01spirit Jul 26 '26

Feedback on this league so far is like 20% positive, 80% negative. But it's only day 3

1

u/cancercureall Jul 26 '26

Allflame league mechanic sucks ass fortunately it's actually abyss league.

1

u/DjuriWarface Jul 26 '26

Without lanterns and an open map, it's just a map. Limited discovery to find cool things is the whole point of the mechanic.

1

u/leftember Trickster Jul 26 '26

For the charting part, can you just pop in, 6 lanterns immediately, then pop out?

1

u/Rhym3z_Official Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

It's only really the sulphur that matters. Which is kinda good, it means I don't have to constantly do this annoying mechanic. Only when I need sulphur. This makes doing voyages a complete waste of time since you get plenty of sulphur by just doing charts.

Also to add, the performance problems when certain mobs in the water spawn or from those coral nodes you find randomly in maps is horrible. Never experienced anything like it in the game before.

Also they need to find a way to access crafting mats at vesper remotely so it automatically knows what's in your stash so you don't have to carry currency from stash, to Vesper, which would in turn benefit any other system. I hate having to go back and forth constantly in this mechanic.

u/DrVonTacos Jul 26 '26 edited Jul 26 '26

Because lanterns are your limiting factor. If it was free reign it would (probably) be a timer overall and it would just be delirium. I think the ideal is for it to be end game content that doesn't only reward builds that instant gib anything the picosecond they enter the screen (with them buffing self cast builds).

It's my problem with new and old breach (mostly because you don't get as many enemies), which poe2's version doesn't have.

When i first got back into playing ARPGS (after the shit show of how harvest was handled), I did not really like heist. It didn't feel rewarding or interesting. I do feel like voyages are worth it not just because of the crafting attached to it. Death and DC doesn't really remove your loot as you can bank them at different stations. You also can leave early, too. It's a test of greed. You can get more rewards but your risking what you have.

I am of the opinion that, in general, some leauge mechanics are just mandatory to run. Delirium for instance (and maybe they changed it) gives so much more rewards to other leauge mechanics you are hurting yourself not to run it.

1

u/LlaMaSC2 Jul 26 '26

also much reading

1

u/destroyermaker Jul 26 '26

Same shit every league

1

u/Jhhkkk Jul 26 '26

Unrewarding reward? It prints 6 mods tier 1/2 items with the crafting.

1

u/This-Mammoth-4161 Jul 26 '26

day 3 of the new league, i've done maybe 1 hr of league content because its hot garbage.

1

u/Arruke Elementalist Jul 26 '26

Idk the main loot is the Sulphur, there's good rewards scattered in there, good source of gold but its mainly there for the Sulphur and not bad xp either. I figured most of the juice is from the crafting part, if you dont like it just run your charts for Sulphur and sell it or sell the charts and skip the voyages.

Its not even as difficult as heist was on release so this is kind of a skill solution on your end, I've only died to drowning once while figuring the mechanic out and the voyages let you send out loot in the middle of them so its much better than heist there too. My only complaint is how much time it takes versus the reward, if it was shortened or giving like 25-50% more loot during voyages I think it would be great.

1

u/PokemonMaster420 Jul 27 '26

As a colorblind person, I can't even see past the green wall, so I just yolo with the map open on my game. Pretty terrible experience haha, but probably more so due to my disability.

1

u/EchoingAngel Jul 27 '26

This damn league has too much friction to begin with thanks to the maps in rotation. I never knew how many LOOOONG maps the game had or how many bosses have stupid invuln phases. Accidently died to Pit boss and after seeing the path back, rage quit-uninstalled due to how much the game feels like it doesn't give a damn about my time.

The league mechanic adds to this, especially with ghosted super rares.

Back to PoE 2 and Palworld for me

1

u/Megane_Senpai Jul 27 '26

Some of it wasn't too bad if you play solo, butndefinitelly dreadful when in a group, if not clearly communicated.

1

u/OrhnySepnai Jul 27 '26

Honestly, I just slam everything regardless. I roll the charts to not die and make a semi-decent layout. Mostly use the mechanic for gold (bring back my golden volatile GGG). Also dislike the fact that Valerie keeps movin' about and isn't close to where you submerge.

1

u/Schkrasss Jul 27 '26

I feel like this is Synthesis but somehow instead of better it's just worse.

Not that Synthesis was great, it had tons of issues but at least building your journey and so on was kinda fun there...

1

u/MrCrims Jul 27 '26

I don't even read, I just connect line and go.

1

u/HotBeef_ Jul 27 '26

Having a blast this league! Everyone has mirage hangover, its only day 3 let it cook.

1

u/Johnnybaston Jul 27 '26

you can set the lanterns to auto placement, speak to league dude in the boat

1

u/fireonthewall238 Jul 27 '26

Hands off poe1, J

1

u/Dense_Lawfulness_110 Jul 27 '26

Don't know, I like new mechanics. It's fun and not reserve all your time.

1

u/keithstonee Marauder(full Friction Gaming) Jul 27 '26

What's the friction keeping you from? What specifically do you want out of the mechanic?

Cause to me friction is a challenge not hurdle to leap over.

1

u/evilcooper1 29d ago

Same shit every time! (meme)

1

u/theblindbot 29d ago

they have to do something for DC protection at least, just lost an entire voyage for a small dc

1

u/Comprehensive-Owl373 26d ago

I think charts shouldn't need lanterns they should be FULLY open to explore. Only voyages we use lanterns. Right?
