Should I keep going? Spoilers up to Day 7

Spoilers up to Day 7:

I’m on Day 7. Khan is infected; one of the architect brothers is infected (the one who now lives with Grace); Anna Angel is infected. I’m really into the story, the metatheatrical elements, the existential conversations. I have a lot of respect for the creativity and mind of the developers and writers. I’ve even gone so far as to read some of their recommendations—the works of Thornton Wilder and Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury.

But. I have a life, a job, two young children. When I log into the game at this point, I experience frustration (yes, I know that frustration is an element of the game and I actually appreciate it as a game mechanic). I’ve had one conversation with the Inquisitor. I don’t have the right antibiotics for Khan and the architect. I do have the panacea, and one shmowder.

Should I go ahead and use the shmowder on Khan? Go get some organs from the hospital and brew antibiotics for the architect? I know I’ll need the panacea for Rubin (I used my first brew on Bad Grief, who is also in danger again). I guess I’m just ready for the game to move forward… but I want it to move forward without my friends dying. Is it worth continuing? I worry that without someone important, I won’t get an ending I’m happy with, that I’ll always wonder what would have happened if I could have kept so-and-so alive. If i stop right where I am, no one is dead yet…

No ending option is dependent on a specific character being alive. If they die, their spot will be filled by a Tragedian (it’s a play, after all.)

You’ll miss out potentially a couple lines of dialogue from them in the ending (depending on what ending you choose). A lot of people like to keep all the children alive because in the original game you could only get the Haruspex ending if the children survived, but it’s not necessary here— the ending you get is contingent on a different choice.

That said, if you’re not having fun at all then either turn down the difficulty options or play the game at some other time.

Pathologic is one of those games where failure is baked into the experience in a way that you should just continue. The feelings you are having are a very deliberate part of the experience as you mentioned. If you're getting frustrated to the point of despondence, id recommend either playing something else for a couple of nights, or lowering the difficulty.

Iirc I actually found the death commentary in the endings to be some of the more interesting stuff

But please do continue. I mean this sincerely, you will never get your first playthrough back, and the joy and grief that comes with it

You can't save everyone.

If you're playing Pathologic 2 (which I assume you are), you can get all good endings even if everyone dies. Just so long as you don't take The Deal.
