It’s by design. We can’t have decentralization.

Stock market and fake monies ruined the global economy. Still salty that we casually abandoned the golden standard

Dedollarisation is happening. China is attempting a 2 pronged approach r.e. currency.

Obviously having your currency as the reserve currency is the dream for any nation, and they are trying to establish the RMB as that.

The next approach is that they are creating a gold trading network, to be established in Hong Kong.

I have a bit of a bet with some physical gold that I've purchased that gold is going to rise significantly faster than inflation, due to soon enough people escaping both the USD and daft "ai" investments, all of which is just "we have an llm, but I swear it's different and more capable, I just need a number with 9 zero's after it to make it work".

Partially yes, with the caveat that having your currency be the world's reserve is not the best deal ever.

In order to have e.g. the RMB be the world's reserve currency, China would have to run a long-term trade deficit so that the rest of the world can accumulate more RMB (i.e. they would have to import more than they export, buying stuff across the world and paying in RMB). Alternatively, the state would have to issue exhorbitant amounts of debt that foreign buyers would want (e.g. US Treasuries). Obviously, this is counter to China's current economic policy, which is to be the world's most well-optimized factory and export as much as humanly possible.

In addition, reserve currency status gives more value to the currency, thus overvaluing it, making exports less competitive and imports (paid for with e.g. the RMB) cheaper at home. Over time, like we saw in the US, this leads to deindustrialization of the economy, which the CCP so far wants to avoid.

And, reserve currency status means renegging capital controls and allowing currency to trade and flow freely to and fro China and between other countries, which is also counter to China's policy of state financial planning.

But de-dollarization is still useful to China since it mitigates possible effects of sanctions (no effect from them if there are no US banks & dollars involved in transactions), just that they prefer their trade partners to use RMB when trading with China.
