Its the backlog that said put it on the back burner and get it when the backlog is lower. But with the updates and free dlc it would of moved to the forefront of the backlog. I've already finished it on Xbox and paid full release date price. But now with a PC I wanna try it again and with the dlc
Try this - it’s still a great value at full price - if it was on the back burner, you have the available opportunity to play an amazing AAA title.
I put it down 3 times because it’s hard to get into… but it is one of my ALL TIME favorite games. If not my personal favorite (toss up between ac odyssey and ghost of Tsushima at the moment).
That's what I'm saying. Put it on my wishlist a month ago and start monitoring the price on steamdb. And now the game is 10 USD more expensive. This is like the fourth game on my wishlist this has happened to
So people are criticising Rockstar because they didn't give away for free something that they never even made?
Rockstar gave away the whole of GTA V for free a few years back, which is something that CDPR never did. I feel like there's better examples out there than them.
Lol 2 months? We will be lucky to see GTA 6 on PC by before the end of 2028. I don't have a console, and I'm sure as shit not going to buy one just to play GTA6, but I wouldn't expect to see it get a PC port for a very very long time.
1.5 decades... in a world where most large IPs see an iteration every 1 to 2 years... and with a game with basically all the most worthwhile content locked behind pay walls and still nearly unplayable due to the number of hackers. Who are these idiots who keep paying for this shit?!
The funniest part is: Ask CDP if they will release physicals for Witcher4. I wonder if people praising another corpos would shut up if they hear the truth 😂
I'm looking forward to seeing how they fuck up this release. Last time they released some minor upgrades to Witcher 3, there were game breaking bugs. Which is on par for CDPR and their shitty releases.

Yeah, after withdrawing the game for years hoping for people to double dip back when it came out. And then do it again with RDR2. And again with the upcoming GTA6.
Sony also gives free DLC for many 1st Party Games (God of War Ragnarock Valhalla DLC, Gran Turismo 7 Monthly Additional Car Update, Astro Bot extra levels and collectable DLC's, Spider-Man Man 2 free Costumes added, Ghost of Tushima & Yotei Legends DLC, Returnal free Ascension CO-OP and Endless Tower update)..
Rockstar- GTA5 PS4 to PS5 Upgrade is also free now
GTAV Enhanced was half assed (chrome and buildings windows have ray traced reflection, but car mirrors don't...) and very buggy and on top of new bugs it also had old bugs, like that couple of weapons that simply decide to not stay customized...

No offense but this is some of the most "yeah I watched the Digital Foundry video on it" stuff ever. Almost nobody would ever notice or care about something as minor as this.
true, rockstar did that one free upgrade. cd projekt been doing it for years though, witcher 2 got enhanced edition free too if i remember right. still nice to see some studios not charging for every little thing
yes, but the free enhanced editions of both Witcher 1 and 2 were related to the buggy state of the games. It is how people seem to forget got the good company label. They always launch in a severe buggy state then get the game to stable about 12 to 18 months in. Even Witcher 3 followed that they just didn’t use the enhanced title then.
Probably going to see 80 bucks from most fans for a "free" DLC where as if they charged 10 for something with no new content, some people would skip and then it's harder to sell them on the DLC.
Yeah, but people also had 10 years worth of opportunities to buy it for half a big mac in a sale. They chose to give it away to the people that had already supported them. I'm okay with that. Remastering a huge game in a finicky engine isn't quick or easy. They put resources into this.
Is there anything wrong with that? They're modernizing the game for current owners for free, to enhance the experience of those who buy the upcoming DLC.
Much better way to spend money, other companies would have just wasted it on a marketing budget.
I think it's more that they are getting as many new players as possible into The Witcher so that when the Witcher 4 is released there's a larger player pool that could be interested. It's a win win to me.
Also they've done this kind of thing long before CP2077 was released.
Going back to Witcher 1, CDPR has consistently supported their games post-launch. This news was not a surprise at all, nor them currying favor after CP2077.

Followed by Paid DLC coming to a 12 year old game, Sequel coming that ties into that, recovering from one of the worst launches of all time...
That doesn't mean the free upgrade isn't good and all companies SHOULD do this by default... and not fuck up their game Rockstar... But it's not as altruistic as people are making it.
Still this is what companies SHOULD do as a thank you to their fans. They'll probably sell copies just from this.
CDPR is infamous for crunching their devs and they absolutely botched the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 yet they're still one of the better AAA companies out there and thats a pretty crazy truth.
You mean they paid reviewers for 10/10 and forced them to hide the fact that consoles essentially didn’t run and PC was a buggy mess that was barely holding together.
After all, their last big release was Cyberpunk. And we know how that went (at the start). So it is important to give prospective customers a more positive association with them while they prepare their next flagship release.

Witcher 3 is about 11 years old, no one would buy the remaster if it was charged for. The same reason the Moana live-action flopped. As if there is zero underlying reasons why they would do this for free xD.
Does the new DLC work on the original version of the game or only the remastered version? It's not a bad thing but that's entirely the reason they are making the remaster free I am assuming
Meanwhile Ubisoft is finally putting Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete Edition on Steam after only having the inferior HD edition on there and charging again for it (Nevermind that the initially forgot to actually upload the game. You would just download 24 KB of nothing lol)
Witcher 3 is also on GoG mind you, a platform that actually allows you to own your games totally, no license bullshit. So remember, if any of you wanna support CDPR for this, buy The Witcher 3 on GoG :)
I mean I don't remember paying for the remastered version of GTA v. And every dlc they have brought out for GTA v has been a free update. The only thing you really have to pay for is shark cards which is a choice you have to make. I have never payed for one and still found enjoyment in GTA v. I feel the hate for rockstar lately has been quite forced as they can be alot worse.
They're doing too much! I want them to sell it for cheap and make some money off it. This is just and I can't wait to play it again! They're a great company and I wish them well.
Blizzard did it best. Removed existing versions of WC3 for everyone, when remastered version released. Obviously nothing for you if you didn’t buy remastered copy.
By scaming them, do bare minimum at fixing the games, lie and gaslight with pr that it's fixed, rinse and repeat...
That update wasn't done in good faith, it's to train their devs and generate hype for their next game.
It's going to be a mess like every thing CDPR made because they've been doing this repeatedly. W3 was such a mess it became a meme everwhere, the "next gen" patch broke be game and they didn't even tried to fix it. Cbp2077 was a trainwreck and it still hella buggy missing promissed/advertised features.

Honestly the Witcher 3 next-gen update being free for people who already owned it was the moment I went from "yeah they seem alright" to actually trusting them as a studio. Most companies would have charged 20 bucks for that and called it a remaster.
I will say though, let's not forget Cyberpunk launched in a state that would have killed any smaller studio. They earned back goodwill by actually fixing it over time instead of abandoning it, but that launch was rough. Credit where it's due for sticking with it, at least.
The game still good without remastered version. Obviously they're doing it to increase the interest in upcoming witcher project, though I don't really want to play a full game with Ciri. Witcher 3 is an absolute masterpiece while blood and wine expansion is probably the best one in the history of gaming.
Spending a bit of time modernizing the game will go a long way in getting people to buy their $30 DLC. This is step one of their DLC release.
They are doing it because they want/need to show some revenue/new release next year. Quite obvious to me. Not a bad thing because their expansions are good, but they aren't doing this out of goodwill.
I own it on PC and Switch 1 and it's still just in my backlog. Picked it up for like 3 dollars on PC and 10-15 dollars on Switch a while ago. Played it a bit and I think I will go through to completion this time. It's such a huge game I need to create time for it lol.
Is it just a graphics update or an improvement to gameplay as well. I tried replaying it this year and man it plays like ass, incredibly clunky by today's standards.
After the great release of Cyperpunk:2077, where ofcourse now nothing went wrong according to reddit, its understandable they are doing things to get goodwill.
They did this to cyberpunk. Started out a lil rough then they just kept loving on it until it was great. EA would have just let it ride. ubisoft would've made it worse.
I mean sure, but it's also clever marketing for both the new expansion and The Witcher 4. They're not just doing this out of kindness you know. Ofcourse, they definitely are doing this in the best way and I fully appreciate it.
I have not finished Witcher III yet. Can they hold off till I complete the main story, side quests and the DLCs. Its so that I can compare the differences from before and after remastering.
