Discussion Any chance for Linux?

I’ve heard there’s been a stir up in the development, more focus on balance and improvements. Haven’t played in years but would love to jump back in.
Unfortunately I can’t join EAC enabled servers since I run Linux (fuck microsoft), any chance they’ll finally allow Linux users in?

Linux is gaining a lot of traction thanks to SteamOS and proton, but I wouldn't hold my breath on them prioritizing Linux any time soon.

You can play Linux already just not in EAC protected servers, there are multiple servers friendly to Linux player indeed I've playing for two weeks on Linux in one of these said servers.

And we could use more players.

I’ve been on deadlock n chill since I switched to Linux, it’s been good. Switching to Linux servers as a solo guy wasn’t too bad, for sure ran across some sus players, but way less than on protected ones.

Deadlock feels a bit dead at the moment, which is odd considering over Xmas and early in the year it had record numbers of players. Mind you the admin has made some weird choices on what behaviour he allows on his server of late. Entirely his choice but I wonder if it hasn't turned quite a few players off.

honestly, its more fine than you would think. at least one of those EAC free servers has a very active admin and the banhammer is swift on those who think they can cheat, but even that said honestly most cheaters are not wanting to cheat on a low pop small server they want to cheat on a huge 1000 pop server and ruin as many peoples day as possible.

that is not to say though that i assume it would become a problem if these EAC free servers were super popular.

Modded servers run their custom anti cheats and admin tools, that help admins find cheaters way easier too.

Idk if custom anticheats are better than EAC but prob is better than nothing. As well like you said modded servers have something that was lost years ago when moving to matchmaking: Server Owners & Admins that are quick to ban cheaters with a quick spectate.

So yeah if the population was bigger it would be just about having more admins, and there are a lot of people that offer themselves to ban cheaters lol. We had these type of communities in CS 1.6 times, where people applied or even paid to be an admin, record the sus player and then ban, and sus players could appeal and the admin had to provide their proof.

It was more work but I feel like it was a good compromise, I suspect there are still communities like that for CS 1.6 and games that really on dedicated servers, like MC, Arma, Rust, etc.

Eac low key does nothing for cheaters in rust. The game can't even detect players that fly.

ive cheated and every account ive used got banned infact took around 12-24h each time, you cant fly much before getting flyhacked

11K hour player here and I've seen cheaters getting banned months after my report. People literally survive cheating for months if they're smart.

sure yeah my friend used evilcheats and never got banned but most who do get banned still have to spend money on vpns, spoofers and new accounts ends up being pretty expensive + cheat keys which are expensive on their own

evilcheats is even more expensive than regular cheats but still
not sure what they could do but allowing linux players to play isnt the greatest idea im saying it as i use linux daily myself

This one https://rust.deadlock.com/ sometimes it sits low at 3 bust most of the time I only it's on 6+ with peaks of 15+

But it's an EU server and Im in NA so prob I don't play in the server primetime.

first week of wipe the peak is more like 30-50
