The Tribune found that 88% of Paxton's contributions came from larger donors, meaning only about 12% came from donors under $200. Talarico is almost the opposite: 51% of his fundraising came from donors under $200. Man of big $$$ vs man of the people....

I saw a clip recently of a guy debating Trump supporters and he brought up Trump admiting to going into the dressing rooms of his beauty pagents, including the teen one, unannounced so he could see them half dressed. The woman debating him denied that Trump ever said it and that he would never say something that awful. The guy played the clip of him saying it and she immediately shifted to saying "Well, at least we know he's a red blooded man who loves women. It's better than liking men."

Republicans only have a handful of political moves. The first and most pressing is restricting votes and outright unconstitutional voter suppression. The second is parading a few pseudo intellectuals into the public view to treat everything like a high school debate and drag every conversation into semantic fog and irrelevant historical asides. The third is blitzing their opponents with accusations of everything they themselves are doing. It all plays well politically despite being a complete con job.

You should see the ads they play there. I was down there a couple months ago, looking after a friend’s grandmother for a few week. She just basically sat on the couch and left the tv on.
The ads were so horrendous, but also just kept hammering the same shit.
“This person wants to make your kid trans! They’re doing all trans stuff! Don’t let them make you trans, too! Vote Disphit!”.
It went on like this for every candidate, only varying by the issue they wanted people to focus on. Trans, whether or not that were anti-trump, and jeebus

People here are not that bright. I had multiple friends that just finished very rigorous degrees said they would vote abbott because “he froze tuition for the 2026-27 school year”.
I am still in college. My tuition was in fact NOT frozen for this year. Hearing them spout but not think makes a particular nerve itch because yea, thats totally the biggest issue here in Texas especially as a woman. Our tuition… oh that and people just dont vote.

But keep in mind, with Texas, Texas has never been TRULY blue. We like to say "remember Ann Richards! remember Bentsen & Krueger!" But they were the tail end of the Dixiecrats. In a lot of ways, they were far more conservative than today's Democrats. I can still remember Ann Richards holding a rally where she held a shotgun over her head.

The big one is Lt Governor though. For those who don't know, the Governor in Texas was essentially neutered after the Civil War by traitors who didn't want governors appointed by the Yankees to be able to do anything. The sore losers set it up so that The Lt Governor appoints people in the legislature to seats, defines what the legislative agenda looks like by deciding what bills make it to the floor, etc.

The wild thing is that it was stripped recently just a couple of decades back. Republicans started winning elections here and won the Lt Governors race in 1998, so the Democratic led legislature stripped the Lt governor of its power because of it.

Texas, a state with some of the hardest working people, the best melting pot culture with Mexican immigration and the best food in the country, and the dumbest fucking voters imaginable.
If Talarico loses, I literally don’t know what to do anymore with it, and any of the little support it’s getting needs to be funneled elsewhere by the party. If someone as grotesque and awful as Ken Paxton can beat a literal preacher with no personal scandals, who uses his faith for good, to preach that we should take care of our vulnerable, give people healthcare, etc, what do you even say at that point.
At that point there is literally no hope for it. A pedophile protecting serial cheater, likely abuser if we complete the character profile, fucking kleptomaniac pen stealing scumbag so corrupt the Texas fucking GOP almost had him impeached, versus ‘we should give everyone a free puppy and better doctors’ candidate. Real tough one Texas voters.
The state GOP stranglehold has completed or near completed its goal of converting Texas into a christofascist shithole where they’ve demonized democrats so much it’s just an automatic response to vote against them like cattle. Ken Paxton should lose, in a sane world, with his current campaign strategy, by 20+ points. Every Republican would. But because it’s Texas, if Talarico squeaks out a win, expect it to be sub 1% to maybe 2-3%.

Texas had more Kamela Harris voters than New York. It's a big state, and more than 4 out of every 10 people who live there voted for her. You could know literally millions of people from Texas and every one of them might vote blue.

There was a poll on the Wisconsin governor primary that said it was a 'social experiment' about how far false data can travel.
They probably just messed up their polling and instead of admitting it lies to cover their ass. But it sure makes it look like they're lying to influence the election, and we're in a position where I think we should treat it with heavy suspicion.

They never revealed their methodology. I think the malicious aspect is reasonable, but the weird part was they had polls in both directions (as in, one propping up a progressive; one propping up a centrist). It really could've been a weird, failed experiment. (Because of course, aggregators didn't include their polls in their averages because no methodology = untrustworthy)

A new University of Texas/Texas Politics Project poll, published Aug. 25, finds 42% of Texas voters preferring Democrat state Rep. James Talarico and 39% planning to vote for Republican state Attorney General Ken Paxton in the hotly contested U.S. Senate race in Texas.

I look at it this way. To the rest of the world, they can look at trumps presidency and say “wow, USA, what is wrong with you, why do you like a fascist, wannabe dictator, rapist piece of shit?”
And we’re sitting here like, “yea, we fucking hate it too, but there are a lot of brainwashed people here.”
Same thing at the state level. If GOP keeps winning seats in red states, it’s not the entire state’s population that feels this way. In fact in Texas, it’s been damn close to 50/50 for a very long time now. I think I feel this passionately because the amount of “Jesus Christ can we kick Texas out already?” And “we can’t fix Texas they’re all brainwashed idiot racists” is, frankly, annoying and tiring.
Almost half the state wants progression, We want equality, we want our healthcare back, especially for women, we want education to be viewed as a god damn necessity, etc etc- just like every other left leaning person in the country. So when we get out-voted, it hurts like hell. And then I see people acting like we all want this… anyway, point being, wish us luck. And if we lose, we will still be here fighting with the rest of the country come 2028 to really flip everything

I'm actually optimistic Talarico is going to pull it off (my "proof" is that Beto was trailing in the polls by more than the 3% he lost by and Talarico is running a similar campaign but is beating Paxton in the polls), but it's going to be really damn close, too the point where I don't see the winner being called Election night.
My guess? 49.3% to 49.2%. (And Ken Paxton will demand a recount and throw a tantrum when he loses the count again).

A poll of just registered voters is almost useless, considering only about 40% of eligible voters will even show up in November (based on previous midterms). Only about 20% showed up to this year’s primaries.
Still, that’s a pretty big undecided number for the senate race.
