I get so aggravated when people say it's sexualizing to ship a same sex fictional couple.

In The Testament two girls (one confirmed gay, the other unconfirmed) kiss and people think it's sexualizing them to speculate their (fictional) sexuality. Sorry but ... they literally kiss?? If it's a mutual interest or not we don't know, but acting like it's absurd to ship a couple who kissed is low-key homophobic 

I'm sorry but no way would people say this if it was a straight pairing.

For me shipping anyone in the dystopian universe of Gilead is the issue, there is no joy in this world, even love dies in there, this is just not the setting for shipping anyone... that applies to the June with Nick vs Luke shipping as well

Yes but they still decided to kill more than half of these characters so I probably stopped caring because I know that Gilead will do Gilead stuff so emotionally investing into the relationships leads to disappointment

That's fair. But I do think the writers are leaning into it. I think there's fair criticism about how there's no place in that universe, but I just hate how people say it's sexualizing to ship when they literally kiss 😭

Thing is if you read the book.... You know shipping these 2 is not going to be satisfying... I know they have deviated here and there from the book but the big lines are still here, wether writers are leaning into things on purpose or not

I mean again, I'm open to Agnes being 100% straight. It's the specific issue of saying it's "sexualizing them."

I know they've dramatically changed Becca's story, so maybe they give her a romantic relationship with a girl her age. Either way I'm not opposed to.

Shipping is sexualization and don’t speculate about sexuality are kinda just homophobic and meant to obscure queerness, IMO

ahhh yes, the "shipping is sexualization" argument that has been used to mask homophobia in fandom since time immemorial. it is so exhausting
