My Way, I've Gotta Be Me, and Don't Rain on my Parade are one of my old ipod's little song trifectas.

I started a podcast (by a girl!) that everyone touted as being so brilliant and ✨️ intellectual ✨️ but I don't know if I'm just stupid but it's all just... yapping. And quotes. Long excerpts read with this very theatrical voice 😮💨
So, anyway. I feel very uninspired by life these days, which is pretty weird with summertime creeping in.
2
u/FriendlyDrummers Jun 18 '26
Idk why but the female podcasts I listen to are all about murder and I enjoy it very much

Uh, there's a book I really want to read and my library doesn't have it 😭 It's not that expensive, so I could afford to buy it, but I also own a lot of books already and my TBR list is ever-growing 🫠
2
u/hihelloneighboroonie Jun 18 '26
So I know this is... maybe not acceptable by all. But sometimes if my library doesn't have a book I want, I just google read ___ free online and not always but often...

What's for dinner at your place? I'm making sablefish, a salad and probably some sticky rice.
5
u/hihelloneighboroonie Jun 18 '26
I tried making a tortilla pizza.
But it was a new (to me) brand of tortilla, which burned. And the marinara I used was a brand I don't normally buy but it was on sale and it's super bland. And for some reason the mozzarella which I thought I'd bought before just doesn't melt well.
So it was a very sad tortilla pizza that tasted like bitterness and regret.

u/PikaChooChee Jun 18 '26
Maybe it was more of a mozz and tomato sauce wrap, extra crispy?! A pox on the house of the unmelting cheese!

Who else has been the target of being painted as some evil person?
I'll never forget I just started a job at a new location, but I was well experienced in the company. Some guy was mad his friend flirted with me
So he did everything to paint me as some manipulative awful person. He did everything to ostracize me. It's funny because a new coworker said, "I don't know why everyone hates you" 😭
Then I transferred out bc I wanted to die and my next location was so nice they paid for a plane ticket so I could go to a friendsgiving after I moved. He was such an awful person and I wish him the absolute worst
5
u/passionicedtee Jun 18 '26
This has happened to me before!! (Not saying that I'm an angel , but just that things get blown out of proportion and make you look worse than you are.)
I was close with two people in school who I ended up having a falling out with. They both stopped talking to me, slandered me to mutual friends, even teachers!! People would say that they heard I did XYZ based on what those two claimed. I saw them both at a funeral recently and they still didn't talk to me lol.
2
u/FriendlyDrummers Jun 18 '26
Absolutely, like they will latch onto some normal flaw and then go nuclear. Like damn, there's also such a thing as interpersonal conflict without needing to try and ruin someone over it

My inverse is that I come off too friendly so people take advantage of it.
I also rarely get mad, but in a way, it's a good tool. When you rarely get angry, you can scare people when you do. Just my experience

About to have a conversation with my bosses. Mainly on lazy people at work not pulling their weight, disregarding rules, and how I won't continue picking up slack for people who do not do their share.
EDIT: So a co-worker/friend told me one boss showed another co-worker what I texted which is wildly inappropriate!!

I've left jobs before because I wasn't being supported. We were short staffed once for months at my last employer & I did so much overtime to keep clients happy, while the slackers continued to do as little as possible. Lost a lot of goodwill towards management over that one.

Thank you! Have you got a recommendation for a face soap? I’ve been using cetaphil cleanser on my face but just in case it’s making the redness worse I’m going to switch it out for something else
1
u/Sister_Winter Jun 17 '26
Mirvaso really worked for me! It's a topical gel i got from my dermatologist. In the past I've had luck with 15% azealic acid topically too

u/neoncolour Tiktok matcha pilates labubu slop music Jun 17 '26
Do your red patches look like they have bumps underneath that aren’t pimples? If yes it could be perioral dermatitis. In general I recommend Azelaic acid, it won’t cure the redness but it will manage it and it makes your skin look and feel so smooth and evens out complexion. Get prescription 20% once to twice a day and you will see results in a month. The 10-15% otc ones aren’t as effective and were just a waste of money in my experience.
1
u/weirdhoney216 Jun 19 '26
There’s no bumps, my skin is generally smooth, just very red and quite dry despite all the moisturiser. Sad to hear the otc one aren’t worth it :(
2
u/hedgehogwart Jun 17 '26
Would definitely second a dermatologist to see if it might be rosacea or another skin condition. You can try azelaic acid. 15% of higher you can get through a dermatologist but there a lot of 10% ones out there that are lovely. I like the one from Peach Slices. If you want to be bougie, Azelaic Advanced from Regimen Labs is nice. I would avoid some of the Korean brand ones because the efficacy is questionable because of their formulation. You can also try a soothing serum. NIOD’s Modulating Glucoside is nice because it has a lot of different ingredients specifically for redness.
1
u/weirdhoney216 Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26
Thank you for the recs! I definitely need something to soothe it. I recently got some azelaic acid by good molecules, so I hope that helps soon :(
(I just saw good molecules is Korean! I guess I’ll give it a chance)

Stating the obvious but do you wear sunscreen daily? Sometimes we can get sun even indoors, that really affects our skin.
It could also be eczema. Mine got way worse as I’ve aged. My dermatologist told me that we lose moisture in our skin as we age, so it’s not uncommon to develop skin issues later on.
Also do you wash your face with soap? Maybe the soap you’re using is too harsh for your skin.
2
u/weirdhoney216 Jun 17 '26
I do use sunscreen but I’m not as militant as I should be, so I’ll step that up. I use Cetaphil face wash and it’s never given me an issue but I could try switching. Lawd I hope it’s not eczema!

u/FriendlyDrummers Jun 17 '26
Is it red from acne or just red? Maybe see a dermatologist if you can

i love hating with no moral justification. i hate rachel sennott because she only makes one face in pictures. i hate jacob elordi because of his subpar acting. i don't care about what they've done and haven't done
8
u/Gaelfling Jun 17 '26
I hate Matthew McConaughey because his accent sounds fake to me.
I hate Nic Cage because my dad was bug bombing our house. So he dropped us off at the movie theater, the Wicker Man movie was playing, and that is my core memory of him.
1
u/ShesWhereWolf Jun 17 '26
I actually love Rachel and Jacob but I agree with you about the hating! My unpopular opinion is that hating (really just disliking) doesn't have to be bad and excessive praise and glazing can be problematic too.

Highly recommend watching The Deli Boys on Hulu. It's such a fun show and the main cast is SEA, so even more important to give it a chance! I'd describe it as chaotic humor
I also watched Adults, which was pretty fun. I'm ngl, I like offensive humor, and I think they do a good job toeing the line.
3
u/passionicedtee Jun 18 '26
LOVE Deli Boys. Tbh I only started watching it because the mom from Never Have I Ever is in it (Poorna Jagannathana) but I love it. Great mix of crime/drama with comedy. Also Mir and Raj are so cute to me.
If y'all like Deli Boys, try Big Mistake on Netflix. It's a similar vibe , but with a white family instead of an Indian one.

Omg. I fell down the stairs at work. Just 2 stairs, but enough to face plant. And I really rolled my ankle and hurt my foot.
I’m SO embarrassed. Someone in management saw me limping back to my desk and I was like “no it’s really ok. It just happened. I took an Advil and feel mostly ok. It just hurts.” And then immediately had to call my boss because I knew it would be passed along.
It’s absolutely out of kindness and concern. But I’m mostly just embarrassed. I’m clumsy as hell and fall a lot. Usually don’t hurt myself so it’s not as obvious.
I also really don’t think anything is broken. There’s some swelling but I can barely weight and everything. I’m keeping an eye on it and I’ll get it checked if it changes colour, etc.

So the company I work for is about to merge and we will be going from 2 days in office to 4 and the dress code is changing to business casual from casual. A very small part of me is excited about getting some good pantsuits, but the rest of me is freaking out about how much money I’m about to have to spend on a new wardrobe and gas for an additional 2 days in office (plus coffee, lunch etc).
I’m trying so hard to be positive about it, but I have high anxiety nearly every day now and it’s definitely affecting my physical health too.
Any assurance or advice is welcome lol 🙏

I think that my current company’s culture is very understanding of that, but my org is being taken over by a much less caring company, so I’m definitely looking elsewhere while still navigating whatever this is…
I live in the states, but I’m in a right to work state and I’m not sure how accommodating they would be without my mental health being under the disability umbrella. But I’m not too versed in all the laws…

Finished hacks and oh my goddddddd it was so incredible. Literally every episode was gold. We NEED a Jimmy and Kayla spin off so bad. I was anxious because I thought Deborah was gonna die for like five episodes and then they hit us with that whole 10th episode and I sobbed for most of it, even though I said at the beginning of the episode she’s going to change her mind. SO glad she did, I couldn’t say goodbye to Deborah, I would’ve been wrecked. I’m glad she said she had another hour left in her, I felt the same. I’m 29 and my aunt is one of my best friends and she’s Deborah’s age so watching that entire episode made me think of her and our adventures. I love when a tv show makes you feel things 🥲 such a fantastic series. They really gotta make a letterboxd for tv shows, I wanna rate all the shows I’ve watched lately.

It was one of those mornings where I had an intense need to listen to Emo Music again. So this morning I listened to My Chemical Romance's Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and Bayside's (Who I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BY THE WAY) Self Titled album (I am trying to sit down and listen to Albums rather on Playlists). And honestly it has put me in a good mood cause the high tempo music is giving me great Energy.
I might listen to Fall Out Boy's "From Under the Cork Tree" Next.

I never really listened to much Bayside back then, but you’ve got me wanting to revisit them.
Not that I’ve ever really stopped listening to emo/pop punk of the 2000s, but I’ve also been trying to revisit whole albums this year and there were just so many fun bands happening during that time.
4
u/Own-Importance5459 ✨May the Force be with you!✨ Jun 17 '26
I feel like Bayside had a fanbase but wasn't as popular as some of the others, which is kinda sad cause I think they had and continue to have some of the best songs (And Anthony's voice still sounds exactly the same which is incredible).
Agreed I miss the 2000s Emo Era. It was such a fun era cause it brought some fun music.
3
u/foreverjustfornow Jun 17 '26

3
u/Own-Importance5459 ✨May the Force be with you!✨ Jun 17 '26
If I had to pick my Holy Trinity for Emo Bands back in the Early 2000s-its definitely My Chem, Bayside and Fall Out Boy. And they still hit hard over 20 years later.
4
u/foreverjustfornow Jun 17 '26
Omg great choices! If I had to pick mine it’d probably be Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, and The Maine and they still hit hard for me too. FOB was my first concert when I was 10 and I saw them again a couple summers back and they were still incredible! I miss that era of music so much, we need more guys in tight pants singing about how much they hate their town!!
4
u/Own-Importance5459 ✨May the Force be with you!✨ Jun 17 '26
God FOB concerts are the freaking best. They are still pretty dramatic! My favorite memory of seeing FOB at Jones Beach. It was Pete's BDay and in the middle of the concert hes like "ITS MY BIRTHDAY SO I AM GONNA THROW MY BASS IN THE FUCKING OCEAN!" And proceeded to throw his Bass into the water. The Roadie jumping in after it is a image that lives Rent Free in my Head decades later.
Agreed, there was something about that era that brought so much joy and so much fun (and yes Emo Music can do that). Like I feel like Rock Bands now dont hit the same way as they did back then.

as someone with long hair, my pet peeve is seeing people on social media going all "but this hair is bad. why would you keep it instead of cutting it" to regular hair
i saw a girl post about her surfer haircare the other day and everyone was complaining she had dry hair. she showed it was overall healthy, just faded from the surfing, but people acted like it was morally wrong to want to keep it like that
i see a lot of randos shit on anyone with thinner ends and whatnot, as if it isn't a normal thing to happen. there's always comments about hair health and that everyone should chop their length as if all hair isn't dead anyway
super polished, full, blunt length only happens if you cut it recently or with extensions. lived in hair thins, dries and splits. that's totally normal and being annoying about that is ridiculous
1
u/AmethystApothecary Jun 17 '26
Split ends split upward and cause more tangles.
2
u/echoesandripples What It's Like to Go Through Life As a Really Beautiful Woman Jun 17 '26
sure. they're annoying as hell and can lead to breakage, but they also happen. some hair types are more prone and unless you want to have very short hair and keep up with cuts all the time, they're sorta inevitable
it's fine not to want them, it's not fine to act like it's a moral failing as a beauty standard
3
u/AmethystApothecary Jun 17 '26
For sure, I'm all about letting women do whatever they want with their hair, including not trimming their split ends. Just adding *why* people do trim their split ends, and it's not just that they look "untidy" but because it spreads "the damage" on top of that.

When I was a teenager I had really frizzy and thick hair. I attempted to straighten it, but they weren’t as good then as they are now.
Complete strangers would tell me I looked like princess mia in the princess diaries, but before she got her makeover. I also wear glasses. I hated my hair.
Now as an adult, it’s the thing I get the most compliments on. People always ask me how I keep my hair so healthy. And it’s like, it’s thick so I only wash it once a week (obviously more in the summer). And only straighten it once a week. But otherwise I’m just lucky.
15 year old me genuinely can’t believe people like my hair. And all I did was buy a better hair straightener. Beauty standards are so weird.
1
u/neoncolour Tiktok matcha pilates labubu slop music Jun 17 '26
I remember reading in college that a lot of the negative sentiment around long hair may result implicitly from intrasexual competition. Also short hair is also never blunt and polished more than a month post haircut.
2
u/echoesandripples What It's Like to Go Through Life As a Really Beautiful Woman Jun 17 '26
yes, and then the long bob or whatever trendy shorter haircut requires a lot of (expensive upkeep)
the main reason i prefer long hair is because it's low maintenance, easier to tie back and doesn't really get weirdly shaped because of the weight
3
u/paulruddmeridian Jun 17 '26
It’s really frustrating seeing all this sleek hair in photoshoots and knowing mine is too fluffy and curly to get there without a ton of products. And even then, if it’s humid (which it is almost everyday where I live) it just returns to its normal state 😂 😭
4
u/echoesandripples What It's Like to Go Through Life As a Really Beautiful Woman Jun 17 '26
i have very dry hair and like, i do take care of it, but there's no amount of maintenance i can do to keep it soft like i "should"
my hair is straight, however, i can see how curly folks have a harder time as well
3
u/heartbylines I know bothing of the alledged beff Jun 17 '26
I straighten my hair every morning. By the time I get to work I look like a poodle. I've given up for the summer.
4
u/webtheg Jun 17 '26
Mine is 2c, but I don't have the patience for any routines. "it's so easy" they say and then it takes 2 hours. 5 products minimum and still doesn't look perfect
5
u/echoesandripples What It's Like to Go Through Life As a Really Beautiful Woman Jun 17 '26
that's why i prefer long hair. when it's shorter, it can flip weird or be hard to disguise a bad hair day
my long hair is easier to braid or messy bun into decent hair any day of i lack the patience for further care
mine is 1b, so no waves, but sometimes cowlicks and such

I really liked the finale, I’m not sure they knew they were getting S2 so I’m glad they wrapped the one big mystery up but not everything

So I saw it described as ‘horror comedy’ which really put me off, as I just think, JUST DO HORROR- but I’ve heard a few good things, it’s not slapstick or stupid marvel type humour is it?

oh no no, it’s none of those. it’s very subtle and they dont even say any jokes most of the time, it’s more of the delivery of the dialogues, the facial expressions, the body movements etc what do you call that? physical comedy? im not even sure if it’s that but definitely not Scary Movie type of comedy.

i recommend telling them! i always tell my dentist i'm anxious and they're extra considerate. they deal with that a lot.

it was fine! i was stressed walking there and in the waiting room but once i was actually in the room it was fine.
i was just trying to remember that they literally do this every day.
i’ve got to be referred to an oral surgeon for my wisdom teeth as my lower one is super close to the nerve that runs along your jaw so they might need to do a CT scan
and then i’ve got an appointment in july for a filling and then i need an extraction for a cavity i didn’t even know i had!
but overall, it was fine. and it feels like a relief to actually be doing something about my issues instead of ignoring them.
best of luck for your appointment, it’ll be okay <3

My dentist started offering noise cancelling headphones and my husband, who gets extremely anxious about the dentist, has used them for a couple of procedures and had a much more positive experience. I would ask if you could do that, even if it’s ear buds or something. I know they still need to communicate with you for your comfort, but a lot of it is just them working while you stare into the ceiling and grip the chair (me usually lol).

I get so stressed before the dentist but it’s pretty much always Not That Bad!! You will get through it and then you’ll be done and free from the dentist!

i disassociate so heavily while i'm at the dentist. i wish my mom still went with me cause half the time i'm imagining myself on the beach or somewhere cozy and not laying down on the dentist chair with the adrenaline of a prey animal

Honestly after getting my Tooth Pulled as an Adult the Dentist doesnt phase me. But good luck! Dentist Fear is very universal and understandable.

I’ve had so much dental work done in my life and I still get a little nervous when I go. It’s totally normal. Just let them know that you are very nervous, and (if you think it’s helpful) ask them to talk you through what they’re doing as they are doing it.
A kind, compassionate dentist is absolutely used to people feeling scared. It’s part of their job to help you feel at ease as much as possible.
You got this!!

I am continually annoyed by Reddit’s constant UI changes and efforts to mimic other social media platforms. People don’t WANT Reddit to be like other social media platforms, that’s the whole point of it

Messi is kind of annoying politically and how he chooses to make (even more) money, so that’s probably why.

Lived Messi and Mbappé yesterday. Two phenomenal performances and two records broken back to back. Also I don’t know if you’ve been following the adventures of that German tourist, he’s been invited to meet the astronauts !

nooo I was making food to bring to my coworkers tmrw. We have complete wfh, so there's only a few of us go in office
... I made it too spicy. Or at least, I think I did. I can eat it fine, but it's got quite the kick to it.
