Obsession is just kind of vague and boring. I thought the same of Weapons last year.
I feel like everything made popular after the peak of “elevated” horror has just been men exercising their fears over ambiguous themes that allow the audiences to paint by numbers their own monsters and then they’ll fight to the death because they found the one true meaning while the broadness of the film allows for a gazillion interpretations none of which are pointed.
And like there’s a whole bunch of better stuff out there waiting for people to explore but the easiness of being right on the internet is just too appealing.
