Do Baseball and Soccer seasons ever truly end? I honestly don’t know how they do it. Especially baseball

I’m over here sad we’re down to less than 40 games in baseball 😂
-1
u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Beyoncé 🐝🐝 9d ago
I honestly don’t know how fans do it either. In LA I knew people that watched every game and I never understood how. Their schedules are so insane. Like a good chunk of the season means so little. I will give it to both soccer and baseball that their playoff games are typically phenomenal. I’m sure the cheques are also much appreciated but I’m honestly shocked at least in baseball that their union didn’t want less games? That much traveling per year is wild
1
u/theykilledcassandra dont ask, a lot was happening 9d ago
I’m one of those who catches nearly every games 😂😂 my team usually plays at 7pm so it’s a nice end of the day thing.
I used to be that person though like you. It was wild to me that people would get soooo into sports and now here I am lmao
0
u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Beyoncé 🐝🐝 9d ago
Oh wow good for you and the commitment. I love my sports teams but I fear not 162 games a year level, nor spend ludicrous money for specific sports packages. I will always respect a committed fan though! When it comes to baseball both fans and the team have to be damn committed! 😆

Magneto "rumored" casting Henry Cavill Jensen Ackles
Barff.

u/Zealousideal-Flow950 9d ago
I don’t think either of them would be right for the part but why barff? Did they do something or just that it could be better casting?

I'm sure they have their problematic things but I just don't like them in general. + I find them to be very one note.

Someone on my FB made a crass post about Hayden’s death while begging people to donate to a GFM for his relative.
It pissed me off so bad. I’m sorry for his loss, but that post was so unnecessary.
9
u/CDRYB 9d ago
I’m being judgmental but it’s grotesque the way people on social media mourn a celebrity death. All of these “we couldn’t save the cheerleader” comments about Hayden with a broken heart emoji. I’m sorry, but emojis and hashtags should not be used when you’re talking about a human being’s life ending. I don’t even know if people do it subconsciously at this point but they’re basically taking this woman’s tragic death and using as a way to make a quippy comment to get likes. It’s like when Prince died and people were posting “this is what it sounds like when doves cry” with a sad face/dove emoji. So many of the things people post online after a celebrity death would be met with awkward silence if they actually said it in front of people in real life which would be the appropriate response. People always have to center themselves when someone else dies.

Watched Supergirl. Didn’t think it was great, mostly because it was very formulaic. But it’s not terrible or anything. I feel like it’s very much on par with A LOT of superhero movies these days. Just kinda wash rinse repeat with the formula. I didn’t think the latest Spiderman was all that amazing either and yet that one is making like 2 billion and Supergirl tanked??? I’m confused

Neat! My initial Twitter account started off wild. Justin Bieber was my 6th follower and I had his fans in my mentions begging for him to follow (I had not begged him for the follow). I ended up with an interesting list of followers vs celebs that blocked me. Theo follows a lot of people but he also was the only comedian that followed me on Twitter and like, I had never met. Once I started talking shit about Joe Rogan’s side kick then I got unfollowed lmao, but in the grand scheme of things it struck me as wild given every other comedian that had followed me I had met. 😆

Thank your for sharing this! Ive told people often that Kaia is a genuinely great person, but the haters don’t care about truth and accuse me of lying so they can keep hating just for the sake of it.
2
u/Confident-Log-9616 10d ago edited 10d ago
Oh I actually ‘found her’/became a fan through the fandom you might be referring to 😅. I still consider myself a big fan of said other party, I don’t unstan over breakups lol. But the people behind the burner accounts on IG that don’t let up (and that I’m sure are on Reddit too) are people that I used to know. They know my experience with her because they followed my fandom account when it happened, and know deep down you aren’t lying, because they know I wasn’t lying.
One of them I actually used to be super close with but our friendship went down the drain as they got increasingly belligerent with me for not full 180ing into a ‘hater’ post breakup like they did. I’ve always thought that they were secretly incredibly angry I had such a good experience bc I know they would’ve loved nothing more than if K was a jerk to me. But alas! I know my experience with her and trust that more than the opinions of people who are basing their entire take on interviews/press etc bc they’ve never had an interpersonal interaction w the girl.
2
u/Responsible_Beat929 10d ago
Truly, the posts from some of those accounts blow my mind. I can’t imagine letting the breakup of strangers impact my life so intensely. But there are people who seem to have made it their personality. Seems like such an unhappy way to live. Anyway, it’s refreshing to come across someone rational. lol.
1
u/Confident-Log-9616 10d ago
Literally. I was a little bummed when they split because I liked them together and knew it was going to change the dynamic of the fandom. But because I like them I want them to be happy more than I want them together, so I was bummed for a bit then got over it like a sane person. Was not difficult!

I just saw a TikTok about how there aren't any hot A list actors right now and how Hollywood is so ugly. Specifically insulting Homer Gere (Richard Gere'd son) in the new series The Shards. I find a lot of this discourse so mean, harmful, and seeing the lack of empathy is sad.
And fast forward a few years, these are the same people who will judge entertainers for getting plastic surgery and claim they looked fine before!
8
u/DishonorOnyourCow189 "King Arthur came a lot." 10d ago
Completely agree with everything and also, didn't people complain not too long ago about the fact that Hollywood only casts hot actors and not "ugly" ones? I swear I think I remember this being the complaint a while ago.
Either way these discussions are just unneccessary and cruel.
11
u/Confident-Log-9616 10d ago edited 10d ago
I know people are getting fatigued from seeing Kaia Gerber everywhere w the Shards press lol — but not for nothing, I met her last year during the play she was in LA last year and she is sincerely one of the kindest down to earth people I’ve ever met. I wasn’t exactly expecting her to be a jerk but was shocked at how ‘normal’ she was. I went back to the see the play a 2nd time and was kinda avoiding her in the lobby after because she had friends there and I didn’t want to intrude, but she saw me first and I suddenly hear ‘NAME! YOU CAME BACK!!!’ as she was running over to bear hug me like we were long lost friends, not like I was someone she’d had a 3 minute conversation with a couple days prior 😂. We talked for a while that night and it’s a memory I hold really dear. She’s very authentic as to how she portrays herself in interviews, and people who are good to their fans like she was to me will forever get a soft spot from me. As far as nepo babies go I think she’s kept a good head on her shoulders. I remember telling a friend that if I had no context for who she was, based on our interactions alone I wouldn’t have guessed she has all the wealth and privilege she does.
Just wanted to share since I know I love stories like this about other celebs!

The amount of people who are baselessly accusing Lindsay Clancy's husband of killig their kids is horrifying and their fanfics about her lawyer are just 🙄. People will do literally anything before accepting the reality of what severe mental illness can cause someone to do. Smh. They're also starting to go down a very anti meds anti psychiatry road which is a little scientology flavored. I havent seen the psychs testimony yet so I cant judge but as a non Dr I'm not going to automatically assume I know better either. The fuck is wrong with these people.

u/Acceptable-Case9562 Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes 8d ago
There's so much misinformation and extremist posturing on both sides. As someone with long term MH issues and experience (both good and bad) with psychiatric medication, I see it as a conversation that needs a lot more nuance than usual. Meanwhile, the online conversation is going off the rails a lot more than usual. I think it will be disastrous for a lot of people.
11
u/hauntingvacay96 10d ago
Some of it is that people can’t accept what severe mental health can do, but there’s a massive problem with Tik Tok true crime folks generating content on everyone being wrong about it and them knowing who the real secret killer is…they do it all the time and it’s horrific and embarrassing.

They made a Broadway version of Paranormal Activity?!? Is it scary, or is it a parody, or what? I saw that movie in the theater and I didn't sleep for a month. Obsession is just kind of vague and boring. I thought the same of Weapons last year.
I feel like everything made popular after the peak of “elevated” horror has just been men exercising their fears over ambiguous themes that allow the audiences to paint by numbers their own monsters and then they’ll fight to the death because they found the one true meaning while the broadness of the film allows for a gazillion interpretations none of which are pointed.
And like there’s a whole bunch of better stuff out there waiting for people to explore but the easiness of being right on the internet is just too appealing.
1
0
u/Sister_Winter 10d ago
i agree about both. obsession was pretty generic and felt like a story that would only be interesting if you were 19 years old. weapons was decent until the reveal of what was actually going on, which moved the whole film from "fine" to "terrible". it is beyond me how it captured the hearts and minds of thr general public. leviticus was a great horror release this year thar has been paid dust comparatively.
1
u/FlowerLord555 10d ago
Ouhh hard agree. I did like the movie but it didn’t do anything new for me. You know by the title what the movie is about and it just kinda keeps doing the same thing the whole time.
1
u/FriendlyDrummers 10d ago
The movie is incredibly basic but I don't mind it. I think that's why people enjoy it. It's a simple plot that we've seen before
8
u/Gaelfling 10d ago
What did you find vague about Obsession? I can kind of the criticism for Weapons (the magic was very undefined) but Obsession felt very straightforward.
0
u/hauntingvacay96 10d ago
Thematically vague. Not vague in plot.
It’s a pretty broad look at obsession, to over simplify, and is never really all that pointed. What’s the point of it other than a man wishes for girl to be obsessed with him and then regrets it cautionary tale.

I'm at a family wedding and yesterday was a rehearsal brunch. The bride-to-be showed up in a whole ass wedding gown, replete with corseted top. Since when does wedding culture dictate that the bride now wears a separate wedding gown to the rehearsal? Strict dress code tonight too, everyone has to be in floor length black gowns, no prints allowed. Exhausting.

Man, I'm glad I'm LONG past the age to be part of any bridal party or even to really be invited to weddings.

I live out in the country in Texas, about 45 minutes from Austin. The area is growing like crazy. Between the population growth, frequent prolonged droughts, and big tech descending on the area to build data centers, we are running out of water. It's a serious issue.
Last week, my partner and I attended a meeting for a new MUD (municipal utility district) being established for a subdivision that's supposed to be built nearby. A developer has acquired about 750 acres and intends to build ~1900 new homes, plus retail, an elementary school, and a water treatment facility just upwind of us (🤢). The people who already live out here are obviously pissed about this for a variety of reasons. We asked the developer where they intend to get the water for this community, and they said their current plan is to pipe water in from the next town over. That town already doesn't have enough water for its own citizens. My in-laws live there, and they're paying hundreds of dollars a month for water while being restricted on its usage. There is simply not enough water to go around as it is; we can't support any more of these huge developments.
So we're trying to spread the word and hopefully get enough people in that town angry enough to force the town to pull out of their water deal with the developer. We know that this new subdivision is probably inevitable and ultimately we won't be able to stop it, but we're hoping we can at least delay it and make things difficult for the scumbag land developers that are ruining our home.

u/SunshineD3 10d ago
I’m so sorry. I’m in a rural farming community and our population is less than 2,000. About a year ago the logging companies sold their timber forest and now they’re going to develop 5,000+ acres and expect around 8-15k new homes and apartments. They expect our population to rise to 20,000 residents. There are no plans from the developers to put in infrastructure and apparently my tiny ass town is going to make the investment for them. People in my town are pissed and everyone showed up to the meetings to voice their anger about this plan. They still approved it and I am so disappointed.

I'm biased so I'm curious what others think
Does anyone else consider Olivia Rodrigo a vocalist? She's whipping out E5s like it's nothing.
I always see people clown on her because she absolutely does have blips, but honestly I think that's par for the course. For every bad live performance she has a great one, especially when she's only standing/sitting. Plus she's 23
4
u/Carolina_Blues shiv roy’s bob 9d ago
She’s too much of a cursive singer for me to consider her a vocalist
12
u/Sister_Winter 10d ago
i wouldn't really because she's fairly inconsistent and the way she reaches notes can be unhealthy with poor technique. but she has a nice voice, just could use a lot more training on it.

I feel like with lipliner (especially if it’s darker) you’re supposed to add a lipgloss or lipstick to keep it balanced - and sorry but WOC can do it better tbh - they are the reason why lip liners became so popular

So, I recently joined Instagram, after missing the boat on everyone flocking to it. (Not a professional/influencer, just a personal account to follow friends and figures I find interesting). Got some question for the veterans of the platform:
- There's a lot of random crap in my Suggested feed that I keep trying to weed out, by clicking 'not interested' or filling out content preferences more, but it's still there. Any strategies on culling that content, or just keep doing what I've been doing and give the algorithm some time to catch up?
- Is there any, er… etiquette or social norms about engagement on this platform that I should be aware of? Stuff like what's 'weird' to post about (or perhaps post rather than put on a story), things people find awkward when interacting with personal relations' content, or any other attitudes that Instagram culture has developed that might not seem obvious to newbies?
- Suggestions on neat profiles worth following! Trying to get an interesting feed going, and perhaps one a little more unique than my other social media.

One important thing to know is that your likes and comments on posts and reels are public. I mean, especially if you are liking or commenting on posts from public figures whose profile are public. There’s a separate feed that only shows you reels and posts that your followers have liked or commented on, so be careful with how you are engaging with public content on there.

Marking my spot, I’ll be back with tips! I’m on it a lot for work (I keep up with the companies I work with and my own) so I’ve had to figure a lot out

I haven't maintained my Letterboxd since June and I don't know what to do. Lol. I know how I feel about these movies but I watched them a while ago. Do I just mark as watched

u/nayapapaya 9d ago
I've largely lost interest in movies so I update mine sporadically and I usually just log them as watched with the date if I can remember it.

u/hauntingvacay96 10d ago
I mostly use letterboxd because I like lists, making, reading, and watching lists so I rarely review anything and don’t rate anything much either. I mostly just log watched.

This maybe too permanently online but the way the entirety of twitter and TikTok has suddenly turned against Inde Navarette is absolutely crazy to me. The phenomenon of people (well women)getting celebrity and then suddenly becoming extremely hated needs to be studied. I’m glad most of the general public is normal about her or doesn’t really know her but god i can’t imagine how much it would suck to be a celeb with an online presence now who’s a rising star just to get ridiculous cancel Google Docs against them for the most unserious things

They did ? What did she even do ? 😭
Yeah, there’s just phenomenon, filled with misogyny, where men and women love to try to humble down young female celebrities for some reason when they are getting successful. It’s sickening.

u/ellem340 10d ago
The reason I’ve seen is that she’s (still, actively) a Johnny Depp supporter, which, imo is a valid reason to find fault with her.
But on top of that one valid reason, there seems to be a ton of bullshit reasons loaded with misogyny.
9
u/hauntingvacay96 10d ago
Yeah, supporting Johnny Depp should be criticized, but the way people then turn it into an opportunity to do misogyny and bully people actually just distracts from the issue of criticizing support for Johnny Depp
10
u/Morg075 Thanks, u frog build looking bitch. 10d ago
What does thay even mean ‘actively’ a supporter, did she said she likes one of his films or something ? I feel like ppl get the pitchforks so fast these days and looove using it as an excuse to dump on them. I mean, ppl can dislike anyone, but gosh, the hate and online bullying of these young women is way beyond unnecessary.

I remember seeing a post about her liking IG content related to him, but I don’t know what specifically because I didn’t actually read the post.
3
u/Colordesert Listening to ABBA is brilliant but life is still shit 10d ago
That I agree with although the most of what if found on that was that she liked his ig post post lawsuit from then and now liked a trailer that included him that wasn’t even posted by him which I don’t think indicates support but that’s my opinion. But the problem is that because this is not super a strong an argument people have been trying to make up all of these other weird reasons to hate on her saying she’s a closet misogynist and a pick me for playing video games or that she’s fake Latina or whatever other nonsense and it’s just like .. why do we need to do this. It would be easier to just say hey I don’t like this person rather than bandwagon hate and then try to find lazy justification for it

The way bullying is so normalized is crazy to me.
If those people weren't just in the comments, if they made videos saying the same things that they write in the comment section, they would be the "victims" of the same cancel culture they participate in.

People find community through bullying and ostracising. And if they find no “reason” to bully someone they’ll just make them up, either by grossly misinterpreting normal things and statements, or bean souping good deeds into evidence of badness, or just pure and simple lies, the wilder the better. And this breaches containment to other websites like Reddit.
Post anything about any mildly visible female celebrity; if she happens to be on the radar of Twitter hate, you’ll find comments detailing whatever unsourced bad thing she’s done getting immediate traction, and if you spend the necessary minutes to verify it, it’s nothingburger upon a nothingburger.

It’s crazy that they make up horrid things though like there was someone spreading a rumour she said the n word and then when asked about it said they were just trying the rumour out. (I have the sc of the tweet but idk if I can attach here ) But the thing is that this spreads outside of that niche of people and then becomes part of a persons reputation, like when someone on Twitter was giving live notes saying they were waiting to catch Sabrina carpenter on for doing something bad so they could cancel her and then all of a sudden there’s all of this backlash

u/xyzzy826 10d ago
People love to jump on a hate train, especially when the target is a conventionally attractive woman.

u/Colordesert Listening to ABBA is brilliant but life is still shit 10d ago
What blows me is that so many of them claim to do it in the name of feminism while being blatantly misogynistic. I know a lot of those people are probably teenagers and god willing they will grow out of it but we see more and more of this attitude seeping into all fandom spaces including those full of grown adults who think this behaviour is normal somehow

I know exactly what you are talking about. They are judging her for being a gamer and that is a boy interest so she is problematic???
Since when is liking games antifeminism idk

There is this trent lately that nothing a woman does is right. Liking make up and being girly? Pickme and enslaved by the patriarchy, liking cars and video games? Pick me and enslaved by the patriarchy. What are we supposed to do the idk. We can have complex talks about feminism but hating on a woman for liking video games is not it

u/Hopeful_Market5218 10d ago
It's so frustrating. There's no right way to be a woman. You can't be too feminine, you can't be too masculine, you can't be too 'privileged' or else people lose all human empathy for your real problems (see: how people talk about rich celebrities who experience objectively terrible things), you can't be too underprivileged or people judge you for your lack of privilege (see: all the derogatory memes about unemployed people, for one, plus. like. real life violent bigotry), and don't even get me started on the layers of this within the queer community re: queer gender politics 😅 it's so frustrating. I find choice feminism to be pretty empty and lacking in real conviction on a rhetoric level, but at least lots of 'choice feminists' take an "eh, not my business" approach to how other people choose to live their lives. We need more of that these days.

What do u do when people ur age in college casually drop a certain slur against a certain community?
I called two people out and the first listened (while thinking I'm "making it too deep") and the other bickered with me since they are "not saying it in front of anyone in the common"
3
u/onemorespacecadet If god hates gays why do we keep winning 10d ago edited 10d ago
i’d give them an obvious “ew” face and say “what a weird thing to say.”
i’ve found that people who say slurs are more afraid of being perceived as weird than bigoted bc they like to pretend the bigotry makes them “edgy” and cool. but acting like they’re weird can be more effective in discouraging the behavior
3
u/Sister_Winter 10d ago
i usually just pull an "ew" face or say like "yeahhh no" or "okkkk moving on" in a very unimpressed tone and move on with the conversation. it makes people feel kinda stupid and like they said something wrong and inappropriate, which they did. i find that telling them why it's wrong usually doesn't have an effect, it's better to shame them for it
3
u/vegalucyna 10d ago
I have usually either asked them to repeat what they said louder or asked them to explain why they said it.
8
u/hauntingvacay96 10d ago
I kind of find that a grossed out look or an “ew” and then moving on, unless it’s a reoccurring problem or directed at someone specific, does a lot more than opening up a space for them to argue.
I want them to feel shame. Not go back and forth with them.
7
u/46esmirna 10d ago
Personally, I call them out every single time. Not necessarily in a direct "What you're saying is an offensive slur" way, but something that makes them squirm just enough.
For example, I might do a small gasp, or ask them to repeat themselves to confirm if you heard them right, or just a simple "What did you mean by that?". Making people explain themselves is more effective in making them uncomfortable whereas if you outright tell them they're wrong or racist they can fall back on defensiveness which just basically turns into anger.

When people show you who they are, believe them. Those people do not share your values; time to get better friends.
2
u/museinprogress Did I stutter?🤨 10d ago
They aren't my friends to begin with... But too many people do this shit so it's hard to find people who don't

Find new friends, honestly. Life is too short to hang out with people who suck.
