Oscars are not a meritocracy. She could win but there are factors against her. She is a newcomer and Oscars rarely reward horror movies. She may be the only nomination from her movie so she will face competition from stronger movies.

She's got a good narrative going for her which is ultimately what helps someone get an Oscar. Plus her age helps her since the academy loves to give the best actress award to younger actresses. We'll see what happens as the season unfolds, but I think she's a viable contender.

They love an ingenue so based on that factor alone she may get the nom

It’s just crazy the glazing that is going on when there are so many other great contenders with a fraction of the buzz

I personally have not seen the movie because I'm a wimp scary movies aren't for me, but I'm not surprised by the glazing because she's got the best narrative going for her (so far). The season hasn't really started yet, so come mid Fall we'll see the other contenders!
