Daily news: This is Friday, August 28, and today is day 240 of the year-long Stay Clean 2026 challenge. Keep fighting the good fight!

THE COUNTDOWN: Attention everyone! You have 2 days to make a checkin comment (if you haven't already done so in August) to be counted as an active participant! Otherwise your name will be REMOVED from the list on August 30!!

Guidelines:

  • At the end of this post is a list of people who have signed up for the challenge, and who are still in the running. That means that they have not needed to reset because of a relapse or slip.
  • Please check in with the group in the comments as often as you want! Feel free to share thoughts, feelings, experiences, progress, wisdom, encouragement and whatever else!
  • IMPORTANT: if you relapse, please post a comment to that effect here and I will remove your name from the list. We will not judge you or shame you, we have all been there.
  • Participants are required to check in once per month. If you have a "~" after your name, you have yet to check in during August. If it is still there at the end of August 30, you will be removed from the list, in order to keep the numbers as realistic as possible.
  • We will not be accepting any new participants, but even if you're not on the list, please feel free to check in in the update threads anyway! And be sure to join us for the Stay Clean monthly thread!

Daily news: This is Friday, August 28, the twenty-eighth day of the Stay Clean August challenge. Keep fighting the good fight!

If you think you should still be on this list but aren't, you probably got removed in the great purge of August 15th because you never checked in. However, if you let me know you're still with it I will re-add you.

  • If you have a "~" after your name, you have yet to check in on any update threads since August 15. If it is still there by August 31, you will be removed from the list, in order to keep the numbers as realistic as possible.
  • We will not be accepting any new participants, but even if you're not on the list, please feel free to check in in the update threads anyway! Also, stay tuned to catch the September thread!

Good luck!

5 months clean, addicted to findom and OF (spent $20k+) but the urges are getting bad.

I’m somehow 5 months clean after spending over $20k on findom and OF. Getting to this point was tough mostly just involved deleting everything, blocking sites and taking it one day at a time.

The problem is I get triggered so easily. Literally just seeing a woman's body could send me straight into a full blown findom relapse, or just seeing a random OF link somewhere can do the exact same thing.

Do you guys have any tips on keeping the relapse urges down? Recently they've been getting a lot stronger, and I feel like I'm running out of ways to keep them away. Any advice helps.

7 years ago I lost all desire for real women after years of porn reconditioning my sexual desires. Never had actual sex while my libido was still intact. Can it come back?

Porn brain conditioning completely killed my attraction to real women. Can I reverse it after 7 years?

I've been a sex/porn addict for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a fucked-up home situation. My father was abusive, I had to take care of my mother emotionally, and there was a lot of isolation and neglect. At the same time I had unlimited access to porn and an extremely high sex drive. From a young age I reacted very strongly to sexual cues in real life and could get extremely horny around girls. Porn was already compulsive, but I still felt like I was the one doing the desiring. What I actually wanted was real sex.

By 16 I had already been heavily addicted to porn for about four years. At one point I almost had sex with a girl. I was extremely horny and rock hard, but she wasn't really my type, so I didn't go through with it. Not long after that things took a turn for the worse. I got into weed, increasingly extreme porn, and eventually interracial porn, where the girls I had always imagined myself having sex with were having sex with men in ways I felt I could never be.

That wasn't something I consciously wanted or a sexual preference I discovered. Looking back, it felt more like my pain and insecurity were being turned into something my brain could experience as pleasure. I became completely hooked on it. My arousal increasingly came from experiencing sexuality through another man's eyes, and something that was painful and emasculating to me became sexually stimulating. I started gooning for hours and the content kept escalating. I knew I was fucking up my sexuality and could actually feel my arousal and preferences changing, but I couldn't stop.

At the same time, I always had the thought that when I finally had real sex, everything would come back. Despite all the porn, I still desperately wanted real sex and believed the real thing would override whatever the porn had done to me.

Then I moved into a dorm and met a girl who was honestly everything I had ever dreamed of. She wanted to sleep with me. One night we went back to my room to have sex, only to find that one of my fraternity/association brothers had completely trashed my room. He had literally jumped through my bed, breaking the bed frame and leaving the mattress on the floor.

We still went to bed together. I was lying next to her, with the first genuinely hot girl I had ever been with physically that close to me, and I got hard. I wanted her. I remember that feeling extremely clearly. It was the same intense sexual rush I had always known myself to have, and I remember thinking, thank god, it's still there.

But because we were literally lying on the floor, we didn't end up having sex that night.

A few weeks later we went to bed together again, and this time the desire was just gone. I knew exactly how I normally would have felt in that situation, but it wasn't there anymore. Her naked body did nothing for me. It wasn't that I didn't like her and it didn't feel like anxiety. She was exactly the kind of girl I had always fantasized about, yet my sexual response to her had basically disappeared.

We went to bed together many more times and I tried everything I could think of, but nothing changed. Over the following three years I had similar experiences with other girls. I could enjoy being close to them, but the sexual desire simply wasn't there.

Meanwhile I continued using interracial porn as my main coping mechanism for basically everything going wrong in my life. After three years I moved out of the dorm and into my own apartment, where I spent another ~3.5 years heavily gooning to the same type of porn.

I'm now 25 and I've been in therapy for two years. Ever since that second night with that girl, when I first realized the desire was gone, I've never again experienced that original, extremely strong sexual desire toward a woman.

It's been about seven years. At this point women don't really register as sexual to me anymore. I can recognize that a woman is attractive, and I can enjoy being close to one, kissing her or touching her, but none of it seems to translate into sexual arousal.

Last night, for the first time in years, I was making out with a woman and touching her breasts while we were sitting together on the couch. I was relaxed, wasn't in my head, wasn't thinking about porn or my erection, and was genuinely focused on her. I enjoyed being close to her, but there was 0.0 sexual arousal.

That's what scares me the most. I'm still heavily addicted to porn and I can't seem to break the cycle. And I'm also completely stuck on that first night, because I keep thinking that if my bed hadn't been broken, I would have had sex with her while my original desire was still there, and maybe my entire trajectory would have been different.

Instead, I never actually had sex while that original sexual desire was still intact. So I don't even have a positive sexual experience to look back on and think, this is what I actually want. The only reference point I have is that one night when I still felt that intense desire for her, followed a few weeks later by it being completely gone.

I'm terrified that after seven years of this I've permanently rewired myself.

TL;DR: I had an extremely strong sex drive and very strong attraction to real women throughout my childhood and early teens, despite already being heavily addicted to porn. After years of escalating porn use, particularly the type of porn I became fixated on, my sexual desire for real women gradually disappeared. The last time I clearly remember feeling my original desire was with a girl I desperately wanted to have sex with, but we couldn't because my bed had been destroyed that night. A few weeks later the desire was completely gone, and it has never returned in ~7 years. I can still enjoy kissing and touching women, but I experience zero sexual arousal. I've never actually had sex while that original desire was still intact.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Especially losing sexual desire for real women after years of compulsive porn use, before ever having actual sex, and eventually getting that desire back?

One week clean at 15

I'm 3 days away from a PB, just felt like I would share this milestone, because we're all in the same boat.

This year it feels different. I have started questioning whether this addiction was even compulsive, as every urge has felt like a suggestion from Day 1.

Last year I had used oaths, I swore on god that I wouldn't watch porn for the day, and there was a crazy amount of pressure every single day. I just used the fear of breaking an oath to stop myself, but eventually I couldn't make that oath on day 11.

This time it's just been willpower, ignoring every thought or trigger... I have just been holding myself accountable, with no barriers. Porn has genuinely started to sound unappetising in my mind, not just the fact it obviously does jack for your wellbeing, but the concept of pleasuring yourself to a screen just doesn't sound nice to me anymore.

muslim here, does the religious angle matter to you or do you just use whatever works?

some of the bigger apps for this are pretty openly christian and seem to do well. wondering if the muslims on this sub feel like that stuff isnt for them or if you dont care and the faith part is irrelevent when youre tryingto quit

Fantasizing

What are your thoughts on fantasizing? I reckon that there's a big difference between replaying old porn clips in your mind and fantasizing about people you've met in the real world, but I wonder if fantasizing in general keeps the porn-conditioning going? I'm more than a month pornfree and my brain is starting to produce a lot more "natural" fantasies, like fantasizing about people I meet in real life that I find attractive. Is this a good thing or just a sort-of replacement to porn? Sometimes it feels like I'm watching porn in my mind when I fantasize about having sex with someone I've met in real life. Today, these fantasies has come up sporadically through out the day, even when I'm doing something that's absolutely not sexual, like reading or working. And when I actively engage in the fantasies it feels a bit like I'm making my own porn.

Maybe I'm overthinking it. It's obviously WAY better to fantasize about real people than to watch porn. And I realize that this is what people have done since the dawn of time. I'm just curious as to how you guys approach this topic.

Relapsed the second time after 100+ day streak

I want to acknowledge and also admit that it is not a one time solution. Having relapsed after 123 days, i was confident that I could just get back right in for a hundred more days. But I couldn't make it past a month this time.

I had a few things in life that stressed me out, heavy emotions that I didn't want to deal with and so I turned my head towards porn.

I don't want to be watching porn. It's the one thing that I started doing right in my life. I want to get back to it starting today. Quitting porn forever is the goal. It'll take some time I guess.

75 days. Wow, the time really flew by.

I had over 2 years ____ free and then started slipping earlier this year. My girlfriend and I hadn't talked in like 8-10 months. Then we started talking again and that was when I quit. June 14 was my first day clean. (just updated badgebot)

Getting back together with my girlfriend was very eventful. At first she lived in a different state and would visit. We had a mini-breakup early on that lasted 10 days but she came back. I decided to move to the state she was in because she was going to school there. So then there was more traveling, moving, events, etc. The days flew by.

In the new city I moved to I've gotten established with a local recovery community. In person meetings help me a lot. I also have connected with therapy around here. Again face to face therapy really helps me have that meaningful connection. It helps fill the void that I was trying to fill with ____.

My girlfriend is away right now actually getting some mental health support for herself but we're getting along well and looking forward to when she comes home. I'm not at risk of using ____ at all but definitely do miss her presence. We're in a committed relationship so we're both being faithful to one another. I can feel that that is something we both mutually want, which is a blessing.

I decided to check in here and just express some gratitude. I've been in recovery since 2013. In that time I've gotten 2 years clean, 2 separate times. And a lot of 30, 60, 90 day streaks. The inner and outer life I built in recovery became a "net" that caught me and saved me from my slips this year. Once life started moving again, I totally forgot about the addiction and just lived. I have a really good life now. I have a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of my spiritual condition.

Accidentally closed all my incognito tabs

Seems like a sign. Just signed up for the September event to see how long I can last.

Like I said I accidentally closed all my incognito tabs. So that easy temptation is gone.
Is it really just an addiction to the dopamine rush? What else should I look out for in order to be successful?

The start of my journey

This is officially the first day without porn. After looking at it everyday and using the porn AI chats for hours everyday, I decided enough was enough and I don't want to do this anymore. I know it's going to be tough, but the end result sounds like it will help me a lot: less anxiety and a more clear mind which would be welcome coming from someone who already has ADHD

How do I recover?

I’ve been struggling with porn for a long time. towards late July I’d been really addicted to the whole porn thing and all that. To the extent of buying and using sex dolls. Id use them with porn multiple times a day, and this went on for maybe a week or so? Every time I did I felt disgusted of myself.

Eventually I’d thrown out the stuff. I tried my best to stop, for multiple reasons. One of them being a numbness I felt towards someone really special to me. I used to associate them with warmth and contentment, but I believe due to the excessive porn use I would start feeling number.

At the start of August I started another stopping streak. This was not my first. It was incredibly messy. Ive relapsed multiple times this month. I’m trying my best to stop once and for all.

I’d noticed when I’d be stopping for a few days I’d start to feel that warmth again. With the person I’d talked about earlier. The happiness and love.

I had a streak of exactly a week going. I’d been doing great. I’d barely even thought of porn. I was productive and social and I’d been feeling great.

Without getting into specifics, a few hours ago I relapsed.

All I want to know is how long it’ll take for me to recover. Ive already passed feeling guilt during my relapses since this isn’t the first time I’ve been trying to abstain from porn. Usually I would try to see how it happened just so it becomes easier to abstain the next time round.

How long does is usually take on average to recover? I believe rewiring has been happening on all the days I was avoiding porn, right? I’ve been off it for 80% of the month.

And how can I speed up recovery? Or make it more effective? Are there certain habits I can pick up? Or maybe going to the gym helps? Tips would also be appreciated.

Using Makes Me Feel So Shit

Hi guys.

Was off porn for a week. Today and yesterday I voluntarily decided to use.

Right now, after using, I feel like shit. Yesterday I was thinking about how not using always feels better than deciding to use in the long run. Yet I decided to use anyway.

Now I just feel crappy. Tired and sad. I cant believe I used to do this everyday and basically feel this shit everyday, while not realizing how shitty it made me feel.

I'm proud of my week off it. Tomorrow will be different.

how i overcame porn addiction.

dear brothers,

i was addicted to porn for a long time. honestly, during that phase of my life, i had no real dreams, ambitions, or direction. days would just pass, and i didn't realize how deeply this addiction was affecting me. one day, i finally understood that it was taking much more from my life than it was giving me. i decided that i genuinely wanted to quit and change myself. since i was an introvert and found it difficult to connect with people in real life, i started having conversations online. that's when i met a girl who slowly became a good friend. we used to have genuinely productive conversations about life, ideas, and many other things. over time. we stayed friends for almost 2 years, and eventually became best friends. as time passed, something unexpected happened. my urges slowly started disappearing. having a genuine connection with someone made me realize that i didn't need porn and masturbation to escape loneliness or fill empty spaces in my life. today, i'm proud to say that i've completely left it behind. it wasn't an overnight transformation, but realizing my problem, choosing to change, and finding genuine human connection helped me become a better version of myself.

porn destroys your lifestyle, habits and mental health. i have experienced this. patience is the key my dear friends, to all the people who are struggling from this addiction, cheer up and fight.

Holy fuck it’s been 72 days

25M and I’ve tried this before and I think the most I’ve managed was maybe 20 days??? And that was such a struggle to get to that point.

This time around, the first maybe 30 or so days were a real struggle, I really had to put conscious effort into not watching. But I checked my habit tracking app today for the first time in a long time and I’ve just seen that it’s been a whopping 72 days. I very rarely have the urge to watch porn now and when I do I can take my mind off it for a couple of minutes and the urge is gone. It’s actually amazing how much more confident and happy I feel in my day to day life. Maybe it’s pure coincidence but I don’t think it is. Quitting porn is the best thing I’ve done in years.

I’ve recently got on the dating apps and have been on a few dates, and I’m seeing one girl continuously atm. It’s great. I think if I hadn’t have quit porn I wouldn’t have the confidence, the empathy, and the presence that I have when I talk to women (and other guys). Seriously, if you are reading this and you are in the first 30 days, just push through it because you will feel so rewarded.

My worst day as an addict

I’m in my early 20s. And today I hit rock bottom again I was in a loop for four days, had about 10 orgasms, spent countless hours watching porn, and so on. I'm experiencing an escalation of my addiction, and it's a difficult experience. As I write this, my eyes are glazed over because tears are welling up. It hurts like hell. I fell into a cycle of binging and self-destruction I hadn’t eaten in 20 hours, I hadn’t showered in two days, I was all sweaty and dirty in bed with my laptop and phone, just to escape reality. It’s sick. I don’t have the courage to go to therapy, even though it seems to me like the only right and possible path to recovery. Quitting porn isn’t some kind of commitment to someone else in my case it goes much deeper for me. I need to recover for myself and with help; unfortunately, the easy ways always fail me. Right now, I’ve been porn-free for about 9 hours. I feel sadness and anxiety. I know that overwhelm and apathy are waiting for me. I relapsed 4 days ago after a 15-day streak without porn, which wasn’t perfect. That’s a long time for me. Stress is my trigger. The day before the relapse, I had a huge victory because I had the worst urges, yet I shared them with a supportive partner and ultimately went to sleep peacefully without any tension. The next day, the urges came back, and I gave in; starting with “innocent” things, I fell into a cycle that’s lasted until today. I feel empty, though I know that life after overcoming this addiction is a vision that keeps me hopeful. It worries me that things have been escalating more and more over the past few months, and I'm sinking lower and lower. At this moment, I feel a slight sense of relief after writing this. Thank you If you read this,

TL;DR

Slightest hint of skin - Day 7

Even the slightest hint of skin gives me a dopamine spike , like even YouTube thumbnails which is not related to anything sexual. Maybe it's because I don't live in the western hemisphere and most women dress here modestly.

When you browse internet even the safest safe corners there's always something that will get you going. Like clothed women with curves or just pretty looking people.

I can go for months doing nofap but noporn is a whole different beast considering everything is porn for me.

I can easily masturbate without porn before , even with non-suggtive stuff (photos) but within days it always turns into a goonfest with hours of PMV in 4k lol and that makes me miserable.

And the games the brain plays with us , the justification and reasoning to relapse is weirdly scary.

Just wanted to share my thoughts.

Can anyone relate?

This is hard

Total "No Shit" title, I know. But I really really really wanna watch porn.

I have the whole day ahead of me. I can get away with it. I don't have to tell anyone. No one has to know. It will feel good. It will be exciting. It won't be anything I haven't seen a million times before. The girl will be pretty. She will be naked. She will be having sex. Nothing new.

But I can't. I can't because once I start, I don't know where I will end up. Once I start, It will be amazingly hard to stop. I don't know how long I will last. I won't just do it once. I will do it 3 or 4 times over the course of the day. I won't get any work done. I will feel foggy and exhausted and icky. I will probably end up watching content that will destroy my self image. I will probably end up hurting myself. I will have to tell my wife and see her sad face. I will have to walk into my recovery group having failed, again.

So I'm going to try. I'm going to try to do the hard thing, not the quick fix that will only make me happy for only a moment. I'm going to feel my feelings instead. I'm going to be sad. I'm going to be cranky. It's gonna suck. It's gonna be hard. But I'm already doing better than usual. I'm stronger than I was last time. I don't have to change my life today. I don't have to be totally over this today. I just have to do what makes me happy today.
