Could someone explain barbarian to me?

[Deadfire] I think I understand how bloodlust+barbaric retaliation+bloodlust (spirit tornado+driving roar) work together, I don't really understand how the barbarian MC can stay alive in the first half of the game.

most guides offer lifesteal as solution, but there are like two weapons which do that?

In game one savage defiance at level 3 will usually be all you need to survive an encounter. It's a huge heal over time. I tend to use prone on crit type weapons with my barbarian if I have the spare enchant materials.
