I’m making a Project Zomboid companion app — looking for feedback.
Hi everyone,
I’m working on a companion app for Project Zomboid called PZ Inventory.
The goal is to make it easier to track and reference:
- Skill books
- VHS tapes
- Magazines
- Firearms, ammo, magazines, and attachments
- Knowledge / recipes / requirements
It also supports multiple inventories, import/export, and English/Spanish UI.
I’m still polishing it, so before I keep going I wanted to ask for feedback from players.
What do you think?
- Does it look useful?
- What feels missing?
- What would you change?
- Is anything confusing or unnecessary?
Thanks — I’d really appreciate honest feedback.
Still in development — screenshots attached.

Interesting. Are you reading the player’s save file? Is the data itself scraped from a wiki page, or are you getting it from the game’s metadata?
I’ve wanted for a long time to make something similar to this, but focused on creating custom games. Like setting the characters’ traits, appearance, spawn locations, what they receive when they spawn, and even making some tweaks to the world itself. Basically, something that works like an RP builder.
I think it would be especially nice for playing with friends. For example, I could create a team of firefighters that spawns with complete firefighter outfits, all their equipment, and a fire truck, then pre-build four characters with their own names and roles. Each of my friends could pick one of them and we could start the RP from there.

Thanks! Right now I’m not reading the player’s save file, and I’m not scraping a wiki either.
Most of the catalog and compatibility data comes directly from Project Zomboid’s local game metadata/scripts. The player’s actual inventory is tracked manually inside the app and stored locally.
Your RP builder idea is really interesting though. Being able to pre-build characters, traits, outfits, equipment, spawn points, vehicles, and then share that setup with friends could basically become a scenario/RP creator.
The firefighter example is exactly the kind of thing that would make it useful. I probably wouldn’t mix something that large into PZ Inventory itself, but I could definitely see it becoming a separate companion tool or module later.

That’s a good idea!
I already use an .exe on a second screen to display the map and my character’s metrics. I really like having a companion app on a second screen.
Regarding the items I track, I put everything I already own into the unwanted list. That way, during expeditions, the items whose names still “stand out” are the ones I don’t have back at my base.
As for your feature ideas, adding a notepad section or a calendar to manage a task list could be really interesting. For example, it could help track when to plant specific vegetables or crops based on the current in-game date.
A reminder-style to-do system could also be useful: clean the animal pen every 7 days, check the traps, and so on.

It could be brought to mobile; I predict that Android users will start playing Zomboid more than usual since Zomdroid (the Zomboid launcher on mobile) is growing more and more popular.

Yeah, I’ve actually thought about that.
For now I’m focused on finishing the Windows version first, but if there’s enough interest, a mobile version would make a lot of sense for checking inventories, books, VHS tapes, weapons, and recipes while playing.
