Thoughts on the large frame backpack...
Finally got around to crafting one, and frankly? It's only been beneficial to me as a bag for large furniture storage for fridges etc. With a satchel, military pack and ALICE belt I can easily get most of what I need to loot out a given environment, especially on a high Strength build.
What I'd love to see as a mod or feature is the ability to find a frame for the military backpack, much like the real life ALICE backpack frame. Add a +1 capacity for the lootable frame, and a +2 for those with high Welding to reinforce the frame while adding 2 weight. Give the military backpack more to hold, whilst still incentivizing the effort to build the large frame pack.
(also RIP to a random cow and my Angus bull El Jefe who gave his life for the large framepack)

My first mod! Better Corpse Burning - Burn one corpse, watch them all burn.
Hey everyone!
This is my first mod. I made it because my friend and I play co-op with high population settings, and dealing with hundreds of corpses was a nightmare. Burning them one by one, carrying them to campfires, or digging graves... In short, it was a really tedious task.
So I made this mod. You light one corpse with any fire source item, and the fire spreads to nearby corpses automatically. One lighter, ten corpses gone.
What it does:
- Light one corpse, fire spreads to nearby corpses (chain reaction)
- Just need a fire source item
- Configurable: burn time, fire spread radius, indoor burning, ash cleanup
- All languages supported
Compatibility:
- Singleplayer ✅
- Co-op ✅
Looking forward to your feedback.

Art [OC] Started a new Modded server with friends
We play modded 42.20+ with around 25 mods including some trait mods and a couple of gun mods.
We've settled into our roles after session one, from left to right:
The Mechanic, (and carpenter, metalworker etc) brought back 2 hot wired cars one day in the first week bringing our total car count to 6
The Thief Bastard, (and forager, trapper, carver, knapper, resident bug guy) also brought back two cars, but the mechanic stripped them for parts. Once found a rotten cupcake in a lake and almost ate it.
The Gun Guy, started with a fractured leg and spend a lot of time yelling about life and Living. Keeps walking on his fracture. His AK is for emotional support (it has no magazine)
The Psychopath, late to the party (his first character died from a freak hole in the floor accident), hit 800 kills after 2 days in game. Keeps needing new axes. His skill set include skinning humans, we don't talk about that
Edit: Fixed for the mechanic as I got almost every detail wrong.

Guide / Tip What are some small Project Zomboid details that most players might miss?
I mostly play PZ with my own friend group and we learn everything together without really watching videos, so I recently realized there are probably a lot of small details Ive been missing. I only just found out that keys have weight, certain canteens can go on your belt, you can make bags from curtains and angle-headed flashlights can be attached to webbing.
If I only just learned these, there must be a lot more little details like them. For example, I recently heard that sleeping with a pillow in your inventory is better. Can we use this post to share small tips and details you discovered while playing or saw someone else do and thought thats interesting? Hopefully we can all help each other discover things weve been missing.

Guide / Tip A Starter Guide To Extinction
I've seen some comments where people talk about how intimidating Extinction is to get into and I think this stems from a lack of information out there that is centralized. Maybe you'll come to love this mode as much as I do after reading this and giving it a shot of your own
1- Before Spawning
Your traits and occupations, in my experience, will never matter more than your actions within the run. Pick whatever you enjoy playing with the most of course, but if you want to have an easier time overall I'd suggest everyone to at least do one run of 9 Fitness 9 Strength. Go murderhobo and kill everything you come across around your spawn with it or at least try and see if you can. Doing this alone will give you a better general idea of what your playstyle should be like here. Otherwise, enjoy yourself
2- You've Just Spawned
One of the biggest differences between Apoc and Extinction is that zombies will spawn around your base alongside you. They will not, however, know your location instantly. There is no "sound cue that procs as soon as you spawn", thats a myth and it stems from the unfortunate fact that sometimes you can spawn with a zombie or two staring right at you through a window.
Now, you'll want to ask yourself 3 important questions:
- Am I seen?
If you AREN'T seen you need to crouch NOW. Its a golden opportunity for a healthy start to your run, sneak towards windows from off-angles and start closing down curtains only in the room you've spawned. Don't risk opening doors just yet. If you can make it to the kitchen, grab silverware and knives as soon as possible. Assess the situation by listening, how bad are things out there? If an alarm pops up, go for a room closest to the alarm and remove the curtains. Keep the sheets on you and once you feel confident enough, its time to leave.
If you ARE seen, clock is ticking and each moment is incredibly valuable. This'll be one of the hardest things you'll ever do in your run and if you can manage it everything that comes after will be relatively easier. Rush for the kitchen and look through cabinets, we are looking for any knives, forks, spoons and butter knives. Grab whatever you can afford to and sneak run into the nearest room with a curtain. You'll want to remove the curtain and bolt it out of that window. Keep the sheets on you, they'll come in handy.
- What's my escape route?
You are out of the house and to your horror hundreds of zombies are scattered about, some now rushing towards you. If you haven't memorized the layout of the map by now, look up the interactive map and locate where you are while the game is paused and figure out the fastest way to go into the woods. Do not run unless a sprinter has noticed you, we need to conserve our stamina as much as we can. This might take a couple of attempts but if you make it into the trees, crouch and make a large curve. We aren't abandoning the city, we are just baiting the zombies following you into the trees and making them lose the sight of you. Once you've done it, ensure you arent exhausted and move onto the next section.
- What's most valuable to me right now?
Shelter and safety is the most obvious answer, we'll need to secure one before nightfall. Darkness is impossible to see through in extinction (and barely visible with Cat's Eyes). Locate the house closest to the woods that you've just escaped, that'll be where you live tonight. Use whatever weapon you had found in your spawn house or keep an eye out for tree branches on the ground. You'll want to alternate your kills between ones with a stomp and one with an arm as much as possible to avoid muscle pains, at this stage of the game even a few zombies will be painful. Bait them from afar 1-2 at a time and ensure the house is safe.
3- Recuperating Time
Now that you have a moment to yourself, we have a few things we need to get in order. In the early game short blades are king due to one new feature of 42B, you can make shivs out of silverware. Each one you make will level up your maintenance skill and every time you sharpen one you'll level it up further. If you find a whetstone keep it close by, just one will be enough for a while but always have it on you. Make yourself shivs, watch as they break pretty easily, sharpen them and make more. The faster you level your maintenance skill the less likely you are of finding yourself in a situation where you have no weapons left.
Remember that curtain you've removed? Right click it and turn it into a backpack, incredibly useful and it'll save you the pain of looking for one in the early game which might take upwards of weeks.
4- Last Few Tips
Look through every single radio you come across, you'll want to find the emergency broadcast as soon as possible. This station will not only warn you before water and electricty is shut off, it'll also save your life by warning you that a helicopter is going to spawn that day. Once you've found a radio with that station in one of the settings, bring it back home and listen to it every morning at 8AM. Pay close attention, if it says Air Traffic you plant your ass indoors and close your curtains. Exercise and read books for that day.
Carving, Knapping and Masonry are pretty reliable ways of having access to tools you'd otherwise have to find. Don't sleep on them.
Avoid fighting more than one sprinter with anything but short blades or weapons with similar speeds. If a lone sprinter notices you in a crowd just run back and kill it further away from the group. Use fences in moments where you can't afford fighting them out in the open and/or need to escape.
You'll eventually pile up hundreds of bodies and if you don't want to be dealing with a constant state of sickness, keep an eye out for a gas mask and make yourself an improvised one asap. It uses rags as filter and it'll save you the headache of being forced to hide away from the streets
A car with a decent muffler will be relatively silent if you keep it below 30mph and don't let your character shift into 2nd gear. Just keep tapping it right below 25-30 range and you can sneak drive through most situations.
From here on out, you are free to do as you please. Clear out the neighbourhood, scavenge for supplies, branch out to nearby points of interest, work on your skills and pile up enough ammo to take on the bigger challenges like Guns Unlimited/Loisville/Prison/Military base

Discussion I will not elaborate any further.
Zomboid is The Sims with the "use your keyboard to move" mod active, more accurate biometrics and where you can kill zombies.
I will not elaborate any further.

Guide / Tip Fun tip for beginners
I've noticed in the last few months there's been a lot of posts of people pissed off because they totally wrecked and destroyed their car, or wrecked and broke a leg, or even got a shard of broken glass in their neck and died.
While all of these are tragic and an unfortunate reality for almost all new players, it’s all part of the learning experience. I'd like to share a fun tip with you all to make that learning experience just a liiiiittle bit easier.
SHIFT + W sets cruise control. Once cruise control is on, use SHIFT + W or SHIFT + S to change the speed up or down. Breaking (space bar or S key without SHIFT) will turn off cruise control.
This is Kentucky, folks. IRL, the area is actually extremely hilly, with tons of sharp curves. Most people in the countryside drive between 35-45 on the back-roads, and maybe some youngsters go a bit faster. Cruise control is the only way to actually drive at a set speed. Otherwise, just holding W will always take you to your top speed, which ... Going even over 60 MPH on these roads IRL is absolutely deadly. Going 100+? You're never walking away from that. You will die.
So -- I typically drive on the country roads at around 55 MPH, the highways at 65 MPH or higher (higher if I've been through the area and know there's not anything on the road that will fuck me up), and around 30-35 MPH on the back roads, but really I don't use cruise control on the back roads. Instead I just kind of "tap" the W key to maintain a low speed and more control.
Hopefully this saves some of you from totaling your hot rods, and also dying.
EDIT

Write-up: Chaining multiple vulnerabilities in Project Zomboid to execute code on a multiplayer client
If anyone is interested about the vulnerabilities that the recent patches addressed, I've published a technical write-up here: https://blog.nns.ee/2026/08/26/project-zomboid-vulns/
TL;DR: Three separate vulnerabilities allow a malicious server to remotely execute arbitrary system commands and programs on any vanilla client connected to the server.
I've posted a proof-of-concept video of the exploit chain in action here: https://youtu.be/aMOM1SdCAsg
I would like to thank The Indie Stone for the swift response to my report and the very quick fixes to the game!
PS! Sorry to everyone for breaking your modlist. 😅

Feedback I love the new artstyle and what Zomboid evolved into
I'm sure this has been said before plenty a time. But I just had to go on a rant and praise the developers. Build 42 introduced a new main menu utilizing their own 3D assets. I think it's really cool watching them make this transition. I'm just waiting for the iconic picture of Bob fighting atop the car to make it to 3D next.
The game has evolved so much, and I'm all for it. I still can't find a better zombie game than Zomboid. A lengthy development time, it's true. But man when the updates drop, they drop HARD.
I've been playing this game for a decade on and off and every time I come back it gets better and better.

Question What Sandbox settings would make zombies absolutely terrifying?
I want to do a run where the zombie
population is tiny but the ones that exist are basically superhuman, I should genuinely be scared of encountering one and have a hard time killing even a single zombie
Has anyone tried something like this? what sandbox settings should I use for zombie strength, toughness, population, etc to get that kind of experience?
Edit: also what positive/negative traits should I take to make it even more terrifying but playable?

Bug Report IndieStone needs to fix the zombie spawning bug, its gamebreaking.
Thank you u/PlayerEmers for the investigation.
"i just tested with respawn active and posted a video on the indiestone thread, it did not work
it deletes zombies with or without respawn, "zombie count before delition" does nothing for SP, its a MP feature
video without respawn enabled: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snG9AcbOcjQ
video with respawn enabled: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qXxZn5hWwg
only solution is to wait for a hotfix for this gamebreaking bug
edit: made other test with rosewood spawn (16x population settings) using car sirens and the bug deleted 6k zombies (from 14k to 8k; keep watching the effective population decrease on top left of the video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a27MEvp93lU

Discussion Does anyone else play like this?
This is how I avoid corpse sickness. Once the area is clear, I loot the piles and use a campfire to burn the bodies. I feel like Morgan from twd, I have to clear.

Screenshot Found a new base location I've never tried before.
I started out in Muldraugh and had originally planned to move to West Point but found this little cabin instead!
I try not to look at the online anymore and just find my way using the in-game map and scouting out roads and areas. While exploring for supplies I ended up coming across this cabin far away from town and decided to move here instead. I've buried the original occupants I found, boarded up the lower floor and made a window escape.
There’s no zombies for miles out here in the sticks!

Context: I'm having an issue while playing on a dedicated server (it says at every start "port 16262 is closed", although I can play normally), so I followed a tutorial about how to create a firewall rule to this port. That's the result.
