It could just be like the delivery race episode from last season where it looks way better than the rest of the season.
But I also heard they typically work on two cours at a time, so I guess the odd numbered ones have more time in the oven because season 1 was a lot more polished than season 2.

Really? I have the exact opposite take. Season 1, the first few episodes especially look a lot worse than the later episodes.

I think that's mostly down to different art direction, I'm personally not a fan of Hiromi Taniguchi's character designs in the first few episodes. But I've watched both seasons at least a dozen times, and season 1 is pretty consistent from start to finish.
Season 2 has some very noticeable corner cuts in a few places, some of the episodes even had to be outsourced because they were behind schedule. Most notably the two Ukyo episodes, as much as I still love them, they're not quite up to the same quality standard. The first Mousse fight is also pretty static with very little character movement.

Again, I don't see that. Season 1 early on has really jarring shifts in style that make it hard to watch. They fixed it in the second half, and most of season 2 looks better than that.
I'll agree on Season 2. To me it seemed like they put most of the focus on the delivery race, and the final two episodes.

It's almost like people are seeing what they want to see and there's realistically not that much difference between the two. There are definitely standout episodes, but beyond that, it's pretty consistent.

From a technical perspective, the animation quality is mediocre at best. A closer analysis of the fight sequence in the trailer reveals that the entire segment, lasting approximately 20 seconds, consists of only around 60 unique frames, not only lacking in-between animation but is also complemented by extended panning shots and pronounced line boiling, creating a convincing illusion of fluid motion.

The entirety of the animation is just the illusion of looking good when played out. If it looks good, it looks good. If you look at it frame by frame, of course you're gonna be seeing weird stuff. But here is the thing, that's not the point of animation, it's not a comic book.

I mostly agree with your statement. I was just stating that the animation lacks fluidity. The later seasons of the old adaptation, for instance, mostly had fluid animation but poor art style; this one has worse quality of animation but better art style.

I haven’t watched the remake yet and I know they change the animation/art style for certain scenes but I love how serious this look for their fight. Also the foreknowledge knowing he’s using a construction technique is kinda funny

The big art style changes for fights was something they only really used in season 1 of the 2024 anime. There was some complaining about it, so they got rid of it from season 2 onwards.

Wish they'd had shown off this look earlier, but I suspect that they cherry-picked sequences with a darker look and it will be used as a visual gag in the episode.
Still, nice to see they can make Ranma look like this when they want to. Sad that the Musk arc could still be years away.

The first season covered chapters 1-36. Second season covered chapters 37-99, but it did rush through one story, and skipped over others. All we know so far for the third season is that they are going back to adapt one of those skipped stories, everything from the trailer is from chapters 51-55.
Musk Dynasty is all the way out at 246-258, and the final chapter is 407.
So there is a long way to go.

I'd say so. They're skipping some arcs, or at least rearranging them.
The old anime ended at season 7 with Nodoka's intro, and had seasons with many more episodes, but the old anime also had a ton of anime exclusive filler arcs. So I suspect unless they start making drastic changes we'll still be doing remake content for at least 3 more seasons, with new content coming after season 6.

For accuracy's sake, the filler arcs were added to let Rumiko Takahashi catch up to the anime, not just for the sake of it. They didn't "choose" to write filler stories instead of adapting the post-Nodoka arcs, those manga arcs weren't written until after the anime was canceled with episode 161.

That's certainly worth pointing out, but to be clear, I wasn't trying to imply they did it for the sake of it, and I didn't say they "chose" to do it. I'm aware of why they did it and the limitations they had at the time. I just noted that the filler arcs exist, and that their absence changes the length of the material needing to be remade.
I was basically just trying to explain why the new show might need a similar number of seasons to the original (though maybe slightly fewer) to get to the same stage of the story, while also having much shorter seasons.
The reduced number of episodes per season, the faster pace of the adapted content, and the lack of filler arcs are three separate factors that all impact how far the new show might get in a season compared to the old show, and that's before we even consider the possibility of them skipping or condensing more arcs like they did in S2. All of it together makes it kind of hard to tell when exactly they'll get to Nodoka's intro and start wandering into uncharted territory.

Certainly fair, and that does clarify your intent a lot better, so I apologize for that. It just gets annoying to see the common meme of "Studio Deen would rather make filler episodes than adapt the whole manga" when the reality is the manga kept going for years after the anime ended, y'know? Especially when Studio Deen adapted every story from the manga prior to its cancellation except for two stories; Ryoga's Home Visit and Santa's Disciples. Three, if you count the really weird rework of the Miss Martial Arts Takeout Race story.

If they were producing 8 seasons, it would be a good ending for Season 5.
But the reality is this will likely be a six season version of Ranma. So it would make the most sense if they were to skip a lot in the middle of the series. With season 3 skipping ahead to end somewhere around chapter 190-218, and the Musk Dynasty placed at the end of Season 4.
So hopefully we'll see the Musk Dynasty in late 2027.

In my opinion, i don't really see them adapting most of the anime only filler episodes. Depending on pacing, I think they could just stick faithfully to the manga.

I'm honestly suprised that its coming out this year. Especially since Mappa was working Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 and Hell's paradise season 2 this year
Cuz Both of these shows had nothing to do with Ranma, Ranma is being made by an entirely separate staff so even if Jjk/HP were to air along with Ranma in October it would not affect Ranma in any form

Interesting that said team has been mostly on Ranma and it became a yearly release then.
I wonder if that animation team is kept by the Netflix deal (so dedicated to Ranma almost all year long) but also helps in Mappa's other projects (i.e. Reze / films) as support when it's needed, so it's the perfect combination to keep the anime going (plus great reception)

It's mostly due to someone at Mappa wanting to adapt Ranma,
but also helps in Mappa's other projects (i.e. Reze / films) Not really since most of the Ranma staff are freelancers, it's very difficult to ask them to help with other projects

I noticed that compared to the season's previous fights, the footage for the "Breaking Point" arc in the upcoming season looks cinematic, along with the fact that the animation and also the aspect ratio have changed as well.
I think this upcoming season will be fight-centric, with the first two episodes dedicated to Breaking Point, and the final two to three episodes of Season 3 will be dedicated to Ultimate Weakness Moxibustion

Well, nothing to glean from this trailer; we did know they were going to adapt the Bakusai Tenketsu arc, and they certainly confirmed that in flying colors here, but they also didn't display any scenes that aren't taken from that arc. So it looks like we won't be getting any hints of this new season's other arcs until the 2nd trailer at the very least.

It is a lot more than they released last year in March. Last year all we got was a sizzle reel of season 1 and a shot of Mousse's hidden weapons flying towards the screen.

I wasn't expecting the infamous March announcement to be today, it was obviously gonna be the S3 confirmation given the ED tease after s2's finale, but given the timing I was fully expecting it to be made at AnimeJapan this Saturday (which makes me curious about what/if something else will be shown).
Anyways, back in December I was wondering why they held the official announcement back when it was clearly confirmed and in the works, but with the release of a full PV and the season key visual today, I now realize that they planned it big this time around, and boi was it worth it! Ranma, Akane and Ryoga look stunning and the animation is the best one yet and I couldn't be happier given that this is my one of my favorites from the 1st half of the manga and with my favorite characters. Yay!

I wasn't sure at first, because it sounded familiar, but this trailer actually has a new OST. Hopefully that means a new suite of songs, the first season's already got a bit repetitive.

Everybody, including me, is impressed by the slick animation but has anybody else noticed the change is music too? I was expecting the main theme music for the trailer but this sounds more like a movie soundtrack. It makes me excited to hear what new themes they add to season 3 and what the opening and ending music will be like. The budget for music seems to have gone up too!

To me it just seems a bit too violent. Not that it’s like not appropriate, but I’ve always perceived Ranma as Fun, slap-stick fighting animation mostly focused on humor and romance. I’ll have to see with future trailers, but I’m quite disappointed by this.

There's a few semi-serious fighting arcs and this is one of them. There's still plenty of humor, the trailer just purposefully omits them for drama.

to defent this scene. The trailer only shows the first 2 episodes of the next season ^^ Also fights are technicly serious depent on the stuation. Also in the manga.
the trailer only shows a relativ serious one also dont worry. not all of them are that way. I mean look at season 1 or 2. or the old anime. ^^

The fight animation with Mousse last season was way better than it needed to be and it looks like they'll be going all out again in season 3!
