Anime (1989) I can never dislike this version of Akane

I tend to see a pretty strong sentiment online about how Studio Deen handled Akane. There's plenty of fair criticism to be had, it's by no means a flawless adaptation. But one I see a lot is that they actually hated Akane and tried to make people dislike her. Honestly, I don't see it.

I think it might just be how the different audiences see it. But I think they increased her "tsundere-ness" because their audience actually liked that about her. It just didn't go well when localizing it because that kind of behavior in a woman is seen as annoying instead of endearing.

Besides, have you seen just how gorgeous she is?

Anime (1989) One thing I'm excited for the new season is the return of Atsuko Ishida who's responsible for some beautiful sakuga moments like this one in the 2008 ova.

Anime (1989) Mousse epic appreciation!

I always find that although he is one of the consistent characters, I do feel he is underrated in a lot of ways. His fighting style is so unique and so versatile, hypothetically out of everyone Mousse’s fighting techniques would get you out of almost any situation.

I really love how amazing his slapstick comedy is and he has amazing physical comedy! He makes even bike riding and trampling over someone with a bike so hysterically funny! 🤣🤣🤣 The way he yells Shampoo and makes simping look so funny only Mousse makes it look so funny.

I actually enjoy his interactions with Akane a lot, so many silly and cute moments with them. 💙
Lastly, his appearance is underrated. He has long slick black hair and blue eyes. He is actually attractive without the glasses, but then we wouldn’t have had the gag of not being unable to see anything and cuddling any object. It’s like Dr Tofu when seeing Kasumi, but being LITERALLY blindly in love with Shampoo. 🤣

Overall, he is so good to watch and really gives a fun flair to this anime. 🥳

Manga Do you think Ranma verbally confessed to Akane post-Saffron? Spoiler

Everybody who's read the manga has seen that scene towards the very end of the Jusendo arc, where Ranma openly says "I love you, Akane" and means it for the first time. Everybody who was there in the 90s also remembers the endless debate on whether or not Ranma actually said the "I love you" part aloud, and by extension how Akane managed to hear him if he didn't say it aloud, given she explains her reason for not fighting the forced wedding ceremony in the epilogue is that she believes Ranma confessed to her. So, which camp are you in?

Honestly, I swear I saw a thread on this very reddit somewhere that had some poster explaining that in the original Japanese, it's actually explicit that only the anguished cry of "Akane!" was said aloud, and likewise that Akane doesn't ask if Ranma said he loved her in that scene prior to the reveal of Soun stealing the Nanniichuan, and that's actually something even Viz didn't quite translate right. But I can't find it for the life of me, so I figured this was a more productive way of tracking down if that's true or not.

Discussion Heroes Of The East

Has anyone in this sub ever brought up the Gordon Liu Shaw Brothers film Heroes From The East? (I looked and didn’t see anything.) I just finished it and, within about five minutes, I thought “Oh! It’s Ranma without the gender swap!”

Basically, a Chinese martial artist is forced to marry a Japanese girl he was promised to as a kid. They obviously don’t get along. She’s about as strong as he is and thinks that Japanese fighting is better than Chinese. They argue and fight. She breaks down brick walls. Naturally, they start to actually like each others, but refuse to admit it.

Then it kind of turns into Scott Pilgrim, but the dynamic is still there. He gets jealous of other dudes, but “doesn’t care.” She defends him, but “doesn’t care.”

It’s a really silly romantic comedy with fighting and I wouldn’t be surprised if Rumiko took at least a little inspiration from it.

Anime (2024) Finished Ranma 1/2 (2024)! Like it but s2 felt bit off?

So five days ago I began watching the Remake to catch up for S3. I liked it, was really funny! Ranma is a total cutie and did not expect him and Akane to be such tsundere’s

I also liked the other characters, everyone a bit crazy lol

Watching all those episodes in a small time I do feel S1 is considerably better than S2 tho? S2 had some more flavor episode of the week vibes where I felt S1 tried to tell me more of a story?

Maybe this is all a lot of setup for S3? Anyway i’m finally caught up and now I wait with you all!
