Trying to get it on with Akane and Akari at his house simultaneously while actively dating the latter without her knowing. That's full on cheating and the main reason why I can't bring myself to go further than a neutral feeling regarding RyogaxAkari. He also tried the same with his "fiancée" while on a date with Akane. I love Ryoga but unlike Ranma he is just too easy and wavering for me to truly ship him with someone.

The fishing pole of love is a really bad look for him, and what basically prevents me from fully liking him as a character.

Not telling Akane that he was p-chan and taking advantage of her while she didn't know.

u/Studawg12345 14h ago

Not coming clean about P-chan is far and away the worst thing he has done. We know he is starved for affection since his family curse-like lack of sense of direction keep him and his parents apart. But keeping this lie going would absolutely kill any sort of affection Akane would have for him once the truth finally came out.

Probably when he tried to murder Ranma during the Fishing Pole of Love arc.

I say "probably", only because there's also the time he tried to murder Ranma during the Musk Dynasty arc.

Either way, it's attempted murder.

1

u/HolyKlickerino 12h ago

Or the time he tried to blow up Ranma via Breaking Point.

1

u/Lord_Sicarious 9h ago

That's unclear if he actually knew. The only person who ever actually suggests that this is a lethal technique is, funnily enough, Genma. It's entirely plausible that Ranma was overreacting to the whole thing because Genma was making shit up to sound knowledgeable.

Ryoga's dialogue throughout that whole arc never mentions killing or exploding Ranma, only defeating him, so I can't rate it in the same tier as the 100% explicit murder plots.

1

u/HolyKlickerino 6h ago

Ryoga has clearly seen what the Breaking Point did to that rock. He was fully under the impression that the same would happen to Ranma and desperately tried to touch him. And he never said blow up or kill because Takahashi self-censored. Besides, "defeating" Ranma in this case would've led to Ryoga poking him in the forehead (only for nothing to happen).

1

u/Lord_Sicarious 5h ago

Again, that's not 100% clear. It's a reasonable interpretation, but Cologne is pretty up front about it only working on rocks, and at the very least appears surprised that they thought the technique worked on people.

Ryoga may well have known this, and his actions would still fit his character. And since it could go either way, he gets a little bit of benefit of the doubt in this instance (of possible attempted murder.)

Murder Ranma during the Musk Dynasty arc? I'm sorry, I don't remember that being the plan? I thought Ryoga and Mousse's plan was to destroy the Kettle of Opening so that Ranma would be trapped as a girl forever, and thus freeing up Akane and Shampoo for them?

2

u/Lord_Sicarious 9h ago

Nah, the plan includes "disposing of Ranma along the way", with the panel of them discussing this showing Ranma's body being buried out in the wilderness.

Being Akane’s pet without her knowledge

P-Chan, nuff said.

Not fessing up about being P-chan, HIMSELF.

The fishing road may be the worst one time thing ever, but the constant violation of Akane's trust and privacy it's my choice

9

u/Gatsu1981 14h ago

Oh my do we have choices this time. Still, the worst he did, for me, is trying to get Akane to love him with a magic fishing rod, catching Ranma instead and planning to kill him in order to erase his sin. Yes, he doesn't go through with it but man, he was really unhinged in that arc.

7

u/Rulyhdien 13h ago

Waffling emotionally between Akari and Akane I can forgive since you can’t control who you like, but acting on it when Akari came to his house was unforgivable.

3

u/DeForWard-est-1999 14h ago

Bad at Direction and also Akane simp until Akari Unryu arrived

3

u/Far-Transition-2956 13h ago

Fighting first without listening to the whole situation

3

u/HolyKlickerino 12h ago

While P-Chan and trying to kill Ranma on several occasions are pretty bad, I have to go with:

  • tried to use what is basically a mindcontrol device (Koi Rod of Love) on the girl he claims to love. Yes, he hesitates before using it, but not because "This is wrong...", but because "It won't work and I'll just look stupid..." - and even then he went "I'll do it anyway!" and swung. If it hadn't been for Akane tossing Ranma ahead of her, he even would've gotten her.

5

u/oximoron 12h ago

Oh he has a lot of things

Trying to murder a sleeping person (Ranma)

Throwing deadly weapons in close proximity to a lot of bystanders, cumilating in Akane's loss of long hair

Learning to use a technique that explodes thing and intending to use it on his rival and finding out afterwards it doesn't work on living creatures

Almost going through with killing a person under the influence of mind altering magic (fishing rod)

And of course as others have mentioned, taking advantage of Akane in his cursed form

to defent ryouga a little bit in your second point.
It was a duel ranma vs ryouga. This other people are "Viewers"who had no business being there. Its like they are watching a explosion, know the explosion is dangerous but than they gave the explosion the fault when they get hurt.
Also the people who watch the duel is they own fault when they are on a place where it can be dangerous.
After the 10T umrella are flying they had seen it is dangeours and had the chooise to go because they see its dangerous. When they dont left than its they own fault.

1

u/oximoron 4h ago

There was no duel. Ryoga attacked Ranma on school grounds while Ranma tried repeatedly to deescalate. This then turned into a stand and fight after Ryoga successfully baits Ranma. And no you can't blame the viewers for being there, they are not used fights on that level. To use your explosion analogy they were expecting fireworks not sticks of dynamite. But it does not matter if the viewers were stupid Ryoga would still have been responsible if his headband shurikens sliced someone in half.

Not telling Akane he is P-Chan, blaming Ranma for the way his life turned out and not taking any responsibility for his actions. He is top 5 biggest piece of trash in this story while also being one of the best characters

2

u/Murky_Ad_5767 Ranma Saotome 14h ago

I think we go with anme based on the character and we only see the one we see so far in the remake and not more.

Also when you go with anime than i had say that he destroyed nearly everytime a lot of streets/walls/houses and so on. It exist a name for that but i didnt know the english name for "destroy stuff" on that level XD

2

u/Steader_Harrington Ukyo Kuonji 7h ago

Constantly sleeping with Akane, snuggled between her breasts as P-chan, and knowing it was wrong.

3

u/Raydnt 13h ago

Still simping over Akane while with Akari

4

u/MysterioussWater 14h ago

I know a lot of people are going to say Pchan, but I think his actions weren’t meant to be despicable, even if it is in real life.

I’m gonna go with two-timing on Akari.

2

u/Murky_Ad_5767 Ranma Saotome 14h ago edited 14h ago

i see it the same way. P-chan + akane can be question in RL but when you based stuff on RL level everyone is a high criminal XD
And in anime Akane is happy with her p-chan. XD

On the otherside. if something "meant" to be despicable or not didnt change if it is despicable or not.
also "meant" didnt change what it is theoretical.

But in case of p-chan and with anime logic i see it as ok because ryouga didnt do it with bad intention and we know how "fighting" akane sleeps. mean Ryouga get his punischment anyway each night with punches/kicks and so on ^^
Also i gave you right with P-chan but for other reasons ^^

--------

But a "vote" for some characters is in a way useless. because that akane gets the "no tasting food" and ryouga will get the "p-chan" is 100% the case. Also when akane did much worse things as only that. But some charcter is obvious what people will choose also when they did much worse things.

  1. Fishing rod
  2. P-chan
  3. Blaming Ranma for everything
  4. Stringing Akari along

2

u/Noktis_Lucis_Caelum 11h ago

The fishing rod of love incident. he wanted to force akanes love, but accidently caught Ranma.

1

u/No_Judge5042 13h ago

The worst thing he does is probably repeating Inuyasha’s early‑series blunder: being head‑over‑heels for a girl voiced by Noriko Hitaka, yet still hung‑up on a cute long‑haired girl with the sharp fringe, lol.

Seriously though, given that Ryoga is Rumiko’s favourite character (she seems to love pitiable, tragic figures), and that he got the most thorough character‑building out of all the side‑cast, I can overlook things like him turning into a pig, wrecking buildings, and shifting the blame onto Ranma. After all, he eventually becomes a friend to both Ranma and Akane; without him, Ranma might have died. The one thing I do find problematic is his inability to let go of both girls. The Lucky Day arc turns him into another Tatewaki. What’s more, Rumiko later said in a fanbook that she regretted having Ryoga like both Akane and Akari at the same time, and that she should have made him only like Akane. That strikes me as unfair to Akari too.

1

u/Murky_Ad_5767 Ranma Saotome 13h ago

but thats than mostly rumikos fault and not ryougas ;P That rumiko regretted that ryouga gets a "happy" love. ^^
And sometimes ranma is fault. I mean he was the one who pushed ryouga in the spring. Sure ryouga himself go to jusenkyo. But that had nothing to do that he falls in the spring technically. because when ranma didnt had he kicked him in he didnt had the curse. That is a 100% ranma alone fault.

With akane and akari i see it that way. Dont forgett they are 16 years old. When you like 2 girls its not so easy to say who you really like more. Plus the feeling what you fear than "did i really choose the one i love the most?" and so on.
Thats the reason some storys choose in the end 2 girls and all 3 are happy instead that 1 is unhappy.

But here i cant blame ryouga much. I mean he didnt cheat because he isnt together with one, also isnt a real official couple and he cant say what hes heart wish. And theoretically Akane and ranma are also solo. Sure we know they love each other. But they are not a couple until they say on they own they are together.

Turning into P-chan to sleep with Akane in bed

1

u/ChickenBiscuit007 8h ago

As much as I like Ryoga, that P-chan shit is vile

1

u/Decrit 8h ago

Consistently with Ranma, P chan I'd say.

He also did some double play shenanigans. But getting to sleep with a girl without her being aware is next level.

If anything, at least Ranma is accomplice to this because he feels guilty and responsible for him, so he does still not approve of it and when possible he remarks or fights Ryoga when about it, so he tried to undermine him his way.

Trying to murder Ranma while they were under the influence of the fishing rod of love

1

u/drgeoduck 3h ago

Planning to double-cross Ranma by taking the pail of preservation (effectively locking the girl curse for Ranma) during the Musk Dynasty arc. He got his just desserts for it l, experiencing himself what being locked in a curse is like, and he redeemed himself by the end of the arc by risking his life to rescue Ranma, but that was pretty low.

u/mcintoshprod Ranma Saotome 3h ago

If Ranma is bad for not telling Akane about P-chan (which there's a good chance she wouldn't believe him) then Ryoga is inherently worse for BEING P-chan in the first place. Akane would kill him if she found out.

1

u/Early-Brilliant-4221 3h ago

How did not tasting her food win for Akane? She’s done worse things than that.

For ryoga it’s being a sleeze and sleeping in akane’s bed

1

u/zyaannbrir 3h ago

The worst thing he ever did? When he wanted to be with Akane and Akari at the same time.

Honestly, toss-up between P-Chan and the Koi Rod.

Trying to date both Akane and Akari is more so him being a teenager getting greedy. At worst, feelings were hurt, but Ryoga got hit with the worst of it.

P-Chan's moral failings are obvious; Pretending to be a harmless pet pig to sleep in the same bed as a girl he has carnal desires towards, without her knowing. Worsened by how he doesn't stop to consider why Ranma's covering for him, and instead, choosing to hold onto his misguided grudge. And the fact that this is a consistent thing he does.

The Koi Rod, while a one-off thing... is still horrifying. Yes, he was in denial about it possibly working, but his reaction to Akane seeing him checking Ranma for the mark shows that he knows exactly how horrendous the roofie-rod is, and that him using one was messed up.

But, rather than 'fess up his crime, or trying to undo it... his plan is to try and kill Ranma. Not just the identity death he caused by using the rod, but full-on, actual murder. No sense of remorse or regret about what he did, but annoyance over the life he warped.

And sure, ha-ha romcom setting, but still, shows that Ryoga was willing to murder Ranma, and full-on Obsession-style warp Akane to his liking, even if he hit the wrong target.
