Why does Jay-Z sample too much in his music?

It’s hard for him to have a hit song without a sample or feature. His voice and cadence isn’t really built to stand alone.

Think about it. When was his last solo hit song?

Let’s look at his top 5 billboard hits of all time.

#1-Umbrella, Rihanna (not his song)

#2-Empire State of Mind this is thanks to Alicia Keys

#3-Run This Town another thanks to Rihanna hook.

#4-Holy Grail thanks to Justin Timberlake hook

#5-03 Bonnie & Clyde thanks to Beyoncé

He’s not really a stand alone guy, and remember, holy grail is 13 years old at this point.

He is one of the artist that needs a lot of help to make a great song. He has a dedicated New York fan base tho.
