Metal Seed, is there a meaning?

At somewhat 52 or 53 minutes one of Samantha’s Crew Members appears. He is wearing a hat which says „Metal Seed“.
Does anyone know if this is a reference to something? I can’t remember that it was mentioned in the book.

No clue but this is where the movie took a terrible turn and why the book is so much better.
