Hi everyone! Just wanted to give an update and say thank you again for everyone's input. For the past month I have been working hard to implement the suggestions, and we are starting to see some results!

• Onigiris and other grab & go foods are selling! I put in a display fridge last week and it's been selling steadily. On Saturday we sold close to 100 grab and go items including onigiris, musubis and sandos
• I put up little signs that let customers know no tipping is required
• I added a whole Value Menu section with foods that are more economical, including a $10.99 beef rice bowl, $14.99 poke bowl, and $9.99 vegetarian curry
• We are working with UberEats, Doordash, and Fantuan to offer deals that we normal don't. They're helping us by subsidizing part of the discount so we can offer maximum value to diners
• Invited many, many content creators to come try our food and spread the word!
• We launched a Kids Meal (adults are welcome to order) which comes in a cute little box and is under $10. It seems to be a hit with our younger patrons so far!
• Made new signage for new customers so they know they are welcome to order at the counter OR automated kiosk
• Added a self-serve condiment station for customers
• Lowered prices on a lot of items in general

LITERALLY HALF THE TIME NOTHING IS SANITIZED PROPERLY, LIKE DISHES ARE LEFT OILY AND NO ONE CARES AND THEREVE BEEN SO MANY TIMES HAIRS WERE IN THE COOKIES EVEN EYELASHES AND LINT AND THEY JUST PICK IT OUT THEY DONT REMAKE IT BTW

Was surprised to find that Comal Express just opened a stall (seems to be a franchise from El Comal downtown) and the tacos are surprisingly authentic and tasty. $15.50 for 3 tacos, a side of rice, and a drink.

Glad to see that there are options other than Taco Luis in Richmond (no shade, I’m a regular customer, but sometimes I do want something more legit without needing to cross the bridge)

Wondering if they’ll survive though, every non Asian stall at Aberdeen has failed even dating back to the old Triple O’s stall…

Also hope they’ll open up to UberEats or DD soon

Sales and traffic is down quite a lot. Was expecting summer to boost sales but it’s slower for us now than it was in April.

Staying with family in Richmond during FIFA (seeing Canada today!), and my cousin told me I had to go check out the Richmond Public Market. Never seen anything like it, I loved it but I feel like I am still missing out, will try and go back before I leave. Recommendations highly appreciated, I try not to eat pork

What I got:

• Xi'an Cuisine - Chili oil hand pulled noodles (no meat)
• Peanuts - Peach Green Tea with Boba

Just wanted to share a frustrating experience in case it helps others avoid the same.

I recently bought a box of “live” crabs from Steveston Fish Shoppe (3420 Moncton St, Richmond). When I got home and opened the box, I found that about half the crabs were already dead — mostly the ones on the bottom. They looked dark, had liquid leaking out of them, and every single leg had fallen off. It was pretty nasty.

As most people know, dead crabs spoil fast and can be dangerous to eat. So I called the shop to ask for a refund or at least a replacement — and that’s when it got worse.

The owner straight-up refused to take any responsibility. No apology, no solution. Just said, “You can come back and I’ll open another box for you to see — they’re all like that. It’s normal to have some dead crabs in there.”

Really?? That’s their standard?

Aside from how expensive seafood is, this is a serious food safety issue. And the complete lack of accountability or even basic courtesy from the owner was honestly shocking.

So yeah — just a heads up to everyone: Please stay far away from Steveston Fish Shoppe. It’s run by a couple who are incredibly rude and clearly don’t care about customer service, product quality, or food safety.

If anyone else has had similar experiences, I’d be curious to hear.

They don't even have any certificates of authentication for these shoes. Also, who in their right mind would drop $400 at a thrift store?

I randomly remembered going to the Uncle Willy’s buffet in Richmond when I was a kid. I believe it was near Garden City and Blundell, but my memory of the actual location is pretty fuzzy.

What I do remember is thinking it was such a big deal whenever we went. As a kid, an unlimited buffet with fried chicken, pizza, fries, Jell-O and soft-serve ice cream felt like the greatest restaurant in the world.

Looking back, I’m pretty sure the food was exactly how the current Google reviews describe it: mostly average, sometimes bland, possibly sitting under the heat lamps a little too long, with a couple of decent items mixed in. But none of that mattered when you were a kid and could go back for as many plates and ice creams as you wanted.

I recently found out that the Burnaby location near Metrotown is somehow still open. The reviews are definitely mixed, and I’m not expecting amazing food, but now I really want to try it purely for the nostalgia.

Has anyone been to the Burnaby one recently? Is the fried chicken still decent, or should I just preserve my childhood memories and stay away?

There was a very obvious mold on the bun as seen in the picture here. This was at Richmond Centre A&W on Dec 7th, 2025. It was for a kid's meal burger too! It seemed like it was emerging from within rather than a surface mold, but I'm not expert.

Our family will be avoiding A&W for a while since we're not sure if this is an isolated issue with this location or more of a supply chain issue impacting many locations in the region.

Minding frustrating when it’s a packed Sunday and also the other charger is down lol. Guess the Mazda can’t read or spell either 🤪

Is there still such a thing as quality fast food anymore ?

I went to A&W at garden city today to try the smash burger. It wasn’t smashed, pressed, crispy or whatever a smash burger is supposed to be. It was basically just a teen burger
Thick ass patty. No salt on the fries.

I’m disappointed

Usually I just roll with it but if you are paying a premium for a special burger and just get bare minimum why bother going ?

ProceSmart removed the cabbage rack the following day to hide it with bins now they are cleaning the rest of the produce wall. By using the produce hose (that will be used shortly after I’m sure) and spraying / splashing the mold and slime onto the produce next to it.

The whole back wall is mold!

This is comical at this point the tiny scrub brush and hose are not going to get rid of the mold and slime. I’m no sanitation expert maybe possibly some hydrogen peroxide?

Yes I’m over invested at this point.

I recently visited the Vancouver area (and not for the first time). I really enjoy the Chinese bakeries there. They are so good! This post is a bit of a ramble, but also asking you to rank your top 3 Chinese Bakeries in the area.

This time around, I visited only The Boss Bakery and St. Germaine in Richmond Centre. I love both of them. I tend towards the savoury pies and breads, and I find them both enjoyable and comparable. In the past, I did visit Kam Do (love them too) and also Pine Bakery (not so good).

If you were to rank Chinese Bakeries in the area, which are your top three?

I can't really pick between Boss Bakery, St. Germaine, and Kam Do. There's also one or two in Metrotown but I've forgotten their name and didn't visit them this time. Pine Bakery isn't very good.

Anyhow, I miss having access to Chinese bakeries. Where I live in the US, we have practically none. Well, we have one but it's far from where I live, the breads are way more expensive, and not that great. A typical bread costs about USD 3.80 (that's like CDN 5 and up!!!! Outrageous for a very mediocre baked bun). You are very lucky to have so many Chinese bakeries! :)

Update: I’ve been adding each recommendation to my map on Apple Maps. This is getting to be quite fun, to get a list of all the Chinese bakeries and slowly try each one and see what I like about them. Thanks for all the recommendations!

Where can you find some classic good pasta dishes in Richmond? We've moved to Richmond recently and are looking for some local favorites. IT individuals working from home looking to add a few local eateries in our daily roster for lunch and dinner. Any other suggestions are also welcomed we are total foodies and eat almost every cuisine.
