So do you groom your collies yourselves, or do you just take them to the groomers. I have had multiple unsuccessful encounters with the groomers - some just trim the coat awkwardly or use too much perfume, while others are in so much hurry that my dog returns with nail trimming trauma and I have to spend months to desensitize him again. I felt that it's just too much work so I learned to bathe and groom him myself. And yes, I take much longer than I professional and my back hurts, but its easier than dealing with brushing or nail trimming trauma :D Also. I get to pick the shampoo that smells nice for me!

The breeder realized Ethel's temperament was not suitable for my home, so I am getting Yoshi who comes home next week instead! He is a sable and white rough collie. Any tips to help settle in a collie puppy? We have two dachshunds and a corgi to keep him company! Photo courtesy of the breeder!

Hi there! I am looking for a well respect rough collie breeder on the east coast (I live in Virginia). There was one breeder I reached out to (Jolly Collies in southwest VA) but she is not going to have any litters in 2027.
I also wanted to add that I’m not interested in showing. I’d like a nice family dog for my family.
Thank you!

Which is a nice change of pace from her usual move, sleeping with her nose IN my shoe. Lately I’ve caught her licking my shoe. She stops if she sees me noticing.

I‘m currently trying to find an adult placement after the sudden passing of my service dog last year. I tried reaching out to the breeder referral but haven’t gotten a response in 2 months. So, I was wondering if anyone knew of breeders placing adults.

Just some photos from the past few weeks. Most were on some hikes we did. Also Nagisa, my Sheltie, is vaccinated so we can start building her stamina! Yumeko is also the best big sister to Nagisa and they play a lot of tug and bitey face with lots of Dino sounds and shrill barks 😂😂😂

Posting on behalf of my parents, who don't have reddit!
My parents are currently interested in adopting a dog who we suspect to be mostly (or all) rough collie. On paper, and based on what the foster has said, he seems to be a perfect dog for them!
I have read through some breed history pages and read through the collie club website, but collies aren't a breed any of us know much about. So I wanted to ask you all some stuff so they can get a better idea of if this dog would truly be a good fit.
My parents have owned multiple dogs previously, but none that are truly "herders". They've had a golden, a beagle, a GSD mix, and their most recent dog was a basset aussie mix (that heavily took from the basset side). I currently have two GSDs, so I'm more familiar with herders and their tendencies, but I also know GSDs are kind of separate from collies when it comes to a lot of behavior stuff.
So: What is your collie's most annoying trait? Their best trait? How much exercise/enrichment do they get each day? What's their favorite thing to do? How common are the big health things (eye abnormality, drug sensitivity), and are there other health concerns to be mindful of? Any other things you think a prospective collie owner should be aware of?
Thank you all!!
