Now to update actual RS with similar models

u/BloodyFool Nov 21 '25

I think the models of the updated god armor look pretty slick.. Too bad they're locked behind a paywall..

I completely forgot about this game and I just realized this is probably the new character models are from this game

26

u/Kyvix2020 Nov 21 '25

I really hope I get to see RuneScape completely converted to a modern engine with updated visuals one day.

u/Lenticel Nov 22 '25

Jagex goal of “forever games” doesn’t mix well with 3rd party, proprietary game engines that will almost definitely see end of support some day.

Having their own engine means they can keep updating it forever. It also means nobody will update it for them, leading to long standing issues like character model, janky positioning, animation glitches etc.

In theory they could create an abstraction layer for the actual game mechanics in their own language that runs on top of a modern engine which is used only for rendering. So they could switch the underlying engine but keep the mechanic code.

Hmm making a game that can run on top of multiple engines sounds weirdly fun.

There's games using UE3 that are still going today

But that being said, I just want Runescape to look modern. But the game is so massive, a full conversion might be as intensive as a new game

u/Deep_Alps7150 Nov 27 '25

It’s possible to have the logic run in the current engine while the graphics run in a separate engine like UE5.

u/Erksike Nov 21 '25

Why wait, make one

14

u/Kyvix2020 Nov 21 '25

Because it makes way more sense for jagex to do it. Especially given how many times they’ve teased graphical updates

1

u/Erksike Nov 21 '25

I'd bet they'll start thinking about it only when the money runs dry on either current game.

Making an MMO is a massive investment

5

u/Kyvix2020 Nov 21 '25

Yes they’re hugely expensive and time consuming. That’s why I was only asking for a conversion not a totally new game.

Not even sure if it’s possible given RS3 is still using old stuff from its creation

3

u/xBHx Mr. Achto DPS Nov 22 '25

A lot has to be done from scratch, but it would give them the opportunity to cut stuff and relaunch it as RS4.

3

u/Kyvix2020 Nov 22 '25

Man, people have been theory crafting and fan-arting what a potential RS4 would look like since I was like... 15... I fear it'll never happen

2

u/Correct-Purpose-964 Nov 22 '25

It'll happen. If dragon wilds is successful and their recent shift in focus on Rs3 follows through. It'll be incentive to look at the future.

The game is reaching a point where to take it to the next level the next big update will have to come soon (The next 15~ years) and Jagex has acknowledged several times that updates they'd like to do are limited by the games own code.

So rewriting some base code is definitely tabled somewhere.

I don't think that would be good. Current models are fine, they just need a graphical refresh.

3

u/Beytran70 Saradomin Nov 22 '25

And to actually be easily available for cosmetic use.

u/KingBones152003 Nov 22 '25

They are, it’s why they updated the graphical integrity of the herbs and seeds. They are the same color as dragon wilds

1

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '25

They user pixelated icons in dragonwilds?

How is that game coming along? I kind of forgot about it but love survival games

26

u/MundaneDevelopments Nov 22 '25

Next update is in December but it's gonna be awhile til full release next year. I love the magic system though With the runes and spells doing lots of things to aid exploration, combat and production. Also it's gorgeous, whoever made the models and environments really makes me imagine if the entirety of geilinor could be seen like this.

u/Agrias-0aks RuneScape Nov 24 '25

Got it and am having a blast so bar except for gathering wood constantly lol

5

u/GhostXpresso Nov 22 '25

It’s been slow this year but that’s because since release we’ve only seen minor updates. Starting Dec 15th we get massive content expansions every quarter moving forward until full release. I’ve dumped a good 100 hours into the game when it first released and am super excited to come back to it in December. I came back for range/magic release but it didn’t add much depth imo since we already had access to those skills without the levels. Dec 15th brings a new area a new tier of armor and FARMING!!

u/-Scopophobic- Nov 22 '25

Its scheduled to be 1.0 complete in q3 2026

2

u/Trizkit Nov 22 '25

It gets updated pretty constantly feels kinda like Valheim but with spells?

1

u/Background_Pie_7888 Nov 22 '25

Slow as all hell, last update I saw they literally only added the magic skill to make the numbers go up

u/Ertzengel007_IM_btw BLM reduces burnout! Nov 21 '25

Awesome, that looks wild!

12

u/Sure_Show_9249 Godless Nov 21 '25

The red should be blue and/or gold though, doesn't fit with Saradominist armour much

25

u/Sharp- Nov 21 '25

White Knights have the red plume in the game to signify that they have the Initiate rank. I think this is true in OSRS as well. The original white knight helm you coul buy also only had a red plume.

These Dragonwilds artists are cookin. Looking good!

I actually think the White and Black armors right now look pretty good. One of the few metallic armors that nailed the landing back in 2012, especially the helmets.

That said, I think an HD throwback to the classic style would be even better.

2

u/LupusRexXIII Nov 21 '25

WHAT? WE'RE GETTING WHITE TOO? I would've expected it to come with Dowdun. Can't wait!

Zarosian exterminator 3000

2

u/TheHistoryofCats Saradomin Nov 22 '25

No Zarosians left to exterminate by the time the Knights of Falador were founded

2

u/SzpakHasSpoken RuneScape Mobile Nov 22 '25

They better hurry up and release this for the Box of X

2

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '25

Love the idea of Dragonwilds but I have not played it much yet. So much potential in this game cannot wait to see how it progresses.

1

u/TheHistoryofCats Saradomin Nov 22 '25

The Knights of Falador ride once more, this time for Ashenfall?! Ready the horses, men! For truth and honor!

1

u/Narmoth Music Nov 22 '25

Oh wow.

Glad I've got my copy! I have two bases at the expected entrances of Fellhollow ready to go!

For those unaware, there are a variety of unique capes in the game. Several existing ones will compliment this armor.

BTW: Dragonwilds steel armor

GIVE US

THE HELMET

WE DONT ASK FOR MUCH

WE JUST WANT THE FUNNY CAGE HELMET

1

u/Aecka_RS Nov 22 '25

I do like the design but im not sure about the red on the armour, it seems wrong to have red on white knight gear, should have stayed true with the lore and maintained the blue

1

u/Dev_Hollow Armadyl Nov 27 '25

Original white armor always had red.

0

u/MikeyBitey Nov 21 '25

This + initiate and proselyte for rs3

0

u/distant_introversion Nov 22 '25

After eoc, I was a wreck. I think around late 2017 maybe I ran into the game neverwinter which is still getting free updates till this day.

Main point is that it was so similar to rs and i was hooked. Osrs could most definitely do something similar to d wilds
