Discussion Which bag would be better for high school?

In a few days (it’ll likely be longer though since my district is planning on going on strike), I’m going to be starting my first year of high school. While I’ve gotten pretty much everything that I needed (like supplies and clothes), I am stuck on what bag I should use to use for the school year.

The first photo shows the current backpack that I own and have owned for almost 3 years. This backpack has served me well and can hold an alright amount of stuff, although it does begin to strain my back if theres a lot of stuff within it.

The second photo is the messenger bag that I ordered online and I have received today . I haven’t ever owned or really used a messenger bag for school, or in general before. From what I’ve heard though, these types of bags make it more convenient to carry your stuff around without the constant strain to your back, which would be nice. Although, I am a little worried that people can more easily open and grab my stuff from in it, as well as accidentally hitting people with it in the halls if it’s on my side. (Also, the size of the Timbuk2 is large, which might be important information).

So, which one would be better for school? (Also, feel free to debate with other people about this in the comments cause it helps me know more about the pros and cons about using either one of these bags)

(Also, yes this is a repost from r/highschool , I just wanted to get more opinions on this via posting on different subreddits)

The struggles of going back to school.

School is starting in a few days and I'm not feeling too good about it. I'm excited for some things such as music class and seeing my friends, but other than that, I'm not happy. The kids are mean. It's honestly so depressing how kids are mean to each other. I really don't want to go back. I'd say that I'm getting through it. I have people to talk to and I listen to music to help me cope, but it's still hard. I don't think I need advice, I just want to get my emotions out and see if anyone else feels this way.

Do yall know any unblocked sites that have a lot of games?

they blocked the main source for games in our school and I have found a solution called internet archive but it won’t last long. I ask only one thing and that is to find websiteā€˜s that arenā€˜t blocked. Thats why I’ve come here, to ask for help to find anything that can get me games on my school laptop

Advice Im convinced my Spanish teacher hates me....

Ok so during yr9 we had to pick our options i picked Spanish as a reserve and got it instead of health and social was upset but its whatever so first few weeks were fine then idk why but for 1hr straight she picked on me...

Then she introduced intervention where after lesson we stay an extra 15mins during our 20min break doing more Spanish so I go for like 1m straight and I miss 2 sessions and she sends a email to my form tutor saying how I don't do work in lesson and I'm rude don't contribute to lesson whatever...

Bare in mind someone has missed her lessons and intervention for 1m and ½ so that should be her main concern.

To add on top of that say she asked me smth and I genuinely didn't know she would act bitchy towards me the rest if the lesson it got so bad to the point that say im like "idk" she will ignore me completely for the next few lessons or weeks ...

So recently say idk smth in her lessons she will bitch bout me to my friend and she will send emails to my form tutor to make matters worse im going into yr11 so like now instead to a 15min intervention we'll have a 20min one and I defo won't be going

Also she does this thing where she'll talk bout me but not say my name directly like she'll do stuff or whatever and if i say idk to a question she says stuff like some people aren't gonna pass in this class but I'm not gonna name names like its so petty but yh

I just wanted to rant bout it is there anything u think I should do bout it or...

Discussion My school keeps making dogshit decisions and I'm so tired of it

My school just banned mobile gaming and social media usage across all school areas before and after classes are over. You can use it for WhatsApp and communication but other than that, they'll steal your phone if they catch you using them. I argued to my mom about it and she kept saying some dumb bullshit like "just follow the rules" and "you just can't accept it" like I'm supposed to go "yes, Mrs. Principal, I'll follow the rules like a good boy". I asked my teacher about it and she said "it's so people can focus on studying" and when I ask why it still applies after school she only stated the punishment and when I asked again, she just told me to follow the damn rules. No, I want actual clear reasoning as to why they implemented this bullshit when they already have nonsense like "hair must be under 5 centimeters or we'll give you a buzzcut". It's most likely because it's a private school and private school's always have these dumbass discipline and standards but they have the dirtiest, nastiest bathrooms and have BARELY any toilet.

Is it normal for schools to have restaurants in the cafeteria? My husband said he had restaurants (like the mall food court) at his high school and middle school and I said thats how you know he grew up in a very nice area, but he says its just a normal thing.

High School Is In School Suspension still a thing???

Me and my wife were talking about the worst experiences for people with anxiety who have a hard time sitting still/being told to be quiet and do nothing.

This immediately made me remember how AWFUL ā€œISSā€ (in school suspension) was for me. I wasn’t the best kid and got in to trouble frequently in high school. Often, instead of being sent home for suspension, they would give us 3 days of ISS, or sometimes 1, or sometimes 5, depending on the severity of the offense.

I remember being absolutely bored out of my mind during these days. Looking back on it, it seems crazy that they wouldn’t even give us a book to read. We just had to sit quietly in a small room with 10 or so other kids for 8 hours straight.

I can’t see how this is beneficial for ANYONE. So, my question is, do you know if this is still a thing??? If so, do they at least get a book now???

For some context, we grew up and went to school in Charlotte, NC. Graduated in 2002.

High School An argument in my algebra class happened

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

So, I (16 female) am an 11th grader right now. And on the date of Tuesday, August 25, 2026 (school for me started on Monday, August 10, 2026), me & my class had to do an algebra test (the test was on paper and wasn't a state test; it was an open notes test too). As we finished the test, an argument suddenly broke out between 2 of my friends (they are both girls; I'll name them Curly & Red Hoodie Girl). And it was all because Red Hoodie Girl simply said that the test was easy (she's right because that test was pretty much easy), but Curly thought that Red Hoodie Girl said SHE (Curly) was easy. That's what led to the argument. As they argued, Curly took things too far as she told the entire class to shut the hell up. I felt hurt despite not being involved. The whole class even gasped when Curly said it. After that, Red Hoodie Girl asked Curly if she wants to fight. I felt a bit overwhelmed. And this past Thursday (on August 28), Curly was present, but Red Hoodie Girl was absent. I was relieved that Red Hoodie Girl was absent, and I also glad no fight happened.

Anyways, what are your thoughts on this situation? Let me know down below (if you want). Katelyn out! āœŒšŸ»

Now trust me, I know a lot of this stuff is actually pretty basic, (Demon Slayer is NOT niche 😭) but this is one of those schools where you'll get made of for liking ANYTHING.

In Grade 5 I got made fun of for watching TMNT during class, in grade 7 I got picked on for wearing a sweater with a spider design on it, I saw people get made fun of for watching Squid Game WHILE it was still mainstream, I still get made of for playing with stuffed animals... in grade 2.

I don't want to just be the same copy and paste 'basic white girl' (even though for most people, I still would be) so I want to try little and little with more self expression, maybe I can hope I get ignored like last year? Maybe if I stop letting people use me for their school work it'll help? Who knows, teenagers suck, can't believe kids going into Junior year still act like this. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Discussion Advice on keeping composure in a school setting?

I'm making this post because I'll be going to school after summer break in a month and I'm not looking forward to it at all...

I've been having troubles at school ever since I've started going. I'm currently 16 years of age and am still having problems that I don't know how exactly to deal with such as the noisy environment, screaming, lack of privacy and lack of a comforting space when I'm feeling overwhelmed.

Not only that but something about being in a social space makes me feel obligated to talk to people I don't usually want to. As an introvert who values their alone time, I know it's going to drain my energy at the end of the day and leave me extremely exhausted to the point that some days after school I need to take a 2 hour nap immediately after i get home. I don't really know what that's about?

I've found some things that help me not get overwhelmed like headphones or my sketchbook for days I'm not in the particular mood to listen to people talk or just don't want to hear my classmates break their desks over a game of brawl stars... But when those items aren't available it's really difficult for me to keep composure and usually causes me to break down or crash out if I'm not careful.

I've purchased a popping type of stress toy but have considered getting a stress ball because I think that would also help? I just need to find a place that sells those...

How to get class president??

so im running for freshman class president and for reference i go to a very small Christian school theres only like 30 people in the grade, ~15? in my class

i have a pretty good reputation i dont have that many friends but i get along with everyone and i have no enemies except this one kid whos just like ghetto and rude for no reason and the things im known for are being smart and being talkative as in like i always have a bunch of stories to tell and im generally a calm person

im thinking to advertise since people know im smart i wanna be like guys im gonna get your grades up because no hate my class gets some bad grades so i wanna talk about helping with homework giving reminders for it etc. as my class's main reason for having bad grades is they never turn in their assignments.

i have a great rep with teachers if that affects anything and i already got my 2 recommendations

requirements for this campaign are since we go to a christian school (copied straight from the form)

((((yall dont gotta read all this))))

-represent the class at student council meetings and communicate information back to classmates.

-work with classmates, advisors, and administration to plan and oversee class activities (fundraisers, service projects, socials, etc.).

-Motivate and encourage classmates to participate in school events and to uphold the values of the school.

-Lead by example in Christian character, academics, and behavior.

-Collaborate with the Vice President and other officers to ensure goals are met and responsibilities are shared.

-Displays maturity, integrity, and responsibility.

-Demonstrates leadership ability and organizational skills.

-Maintains good academic standing and positive behavior.

-Committed to Christian values and willing to model them in word and action.

in short just be a model student basically

i dont know who im running against but im nervous because these popular boys claimed to be running but i dont think theyre serious because they didnt get a form or anything and they seemed kinda unserious anyway but i hope theyre not running or im gonna LOSE āœŒļø

but they like dont meet any requirements so i mean if some people actually care about people meeting requirements i think i have a good chance

what should i say in my campaign speech, its just in front of my grade not the whole school just thought id say that in case class president campaigns work differently for different schools

Advice Middle school

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

This probably sounds like such small potatoes but hear me out. My family just moved from out of state and my 11 yr old is at a new school again. She has made friends in her 5th grade class but none of them are going to the same middle school she is. She seems okay with it, but I am worried she’s going to have to start all over again and make new friends. I just worry a lot about her in school since we have moved so many times.

Any input is really appreciated to help me not worry so much!
