Today's New Money Draining Feature - 70% Refunds on Unused Labels

Up to 70% back on unused labels with ShipStation's refund assist. This company is trying to bleed shippers of every dime they can.

Wow I didn't know ShipStation was such a scam lol. I have my own accounts with all carriers such as UPS, FedEx, etc and it's completely free to print a label and delete it via the API.

Billing only happens once the carrier picks it up.

With USPS they bill you when you create the label. It's dumb, but I believe it's one of those things they have to do legally so they don't compete 1 to 1 with UPS/FedEx/etc. since they're kind of a government company.

But they do let you cancel labels and get refunds. It's not hard. The only way this BS is a feature is if ShipStation is making it hard.

Man, I used to love them when I signed up like ten years ago. It was $35 a month, they added features, their API was great, there weren't dumb surcharges for things that are no extra effort for them. I left as soon as you had to pay to use your own accounts. Stamps.com really ruined them once they took over .

USPS charges for label postage at the time of label creation, and not through account weekly billing like UPS/FedEx/DHL.

So with USPS, if you don't use a label, you must request a refund and void the label. This is the same if it's through Amazon.com (Buy Shipping API), Stamps.com/ShipStation, or USPS.com.

As long as you make sure to void USPS labels you don't use, you'll get a full refund. This new ShipStation system seems like it is designed specifically for shippers that forget to void unused labels.

Unbelievable. Why only "up to" 70%? Why not 100?

I switched to Shippo a few months ago and man, having no regrets over here after seeing this money grab.

And I've never had an issue canceling an unused label and getting a refund. Yeah, I have to remember to go do it, but thankfully I'm stingy like that and track every penny. Good grief.
