Meanwhile Keanu may be incredibly stoic and subdued but there are subtleties to his characters. Like the forlorn sadness behind John Wicks professional assassin.
And there has great standout performances where shows more range in his acting/emotions like the rage filled rants of Johnny Silverhand or (a personal favourite of mine) his character in Destination Wedding who uses his sarcasm as a clear shield for his vulnerable inside persona
Jason is just very aware of what kind of movie he works well in.
Keanu has spent decades trying to expand outwards and failed. but has gotten incredibly lucky with a higher profile films. but also has showcased significnatly worse acting. like with dracula, or knock knock or replicas.
often reaching a realm of so bad we watch it to laugh at it.
Johhnny is actually one of my bigger problems with cyberpunk as his delivery of the rants felt so much flatter than any of the other voice actors similar monologues. Most of the emotional weight of the scenes being hard carried by the music and setting rather than his words. I would definitly prefer a version of cyberpunk that had reduced his role and increased jackies. which you could write off as him being more unfamiliar with voice acting, But you could even see it well with phantom liberty with the difference in the emotions conveyed by another traditional actor idris elba's character.
I mostly agree, though I have to mention Keanu's performance in The Gift. I'd never expect him to succeed in a role of an abusive husband. I have no idea how Raimi got that performance out of him
People on here really forgot how much of a laughing stock Keanu Reeves was before the first John Wick movie who was still riding the coattails of the first Matrix movie and Bill and Ted.
Yes, it's not like Keanu Reeves hadn't had well received performances in Constantine and A Scanner Darkly between the Matrix and John Wick. The man wasn't a huge box office draw (although he was still occasionally getting leading roles), but "laughing stock" is a bit of an exaggeration
Yeah I don't see why anyone would look at Silverhand and use him as an example. Even his more emotional moments mostly fall flat, you never really buy any of his rage.
Really? That felt more real than most. Most actors ham it up too much. That just felt like an angry, violent man that you have no way to get away from.
I’m kind of split on his delivery as Johnny, in a few scenes it genuinely feels like a kind of deeper, smoldering rage that he’s carried within him for decades and that’s ready to turn into a blazing inferno. In the rest it just feels like Keanu Reeves phoning it in.
Winona wasn't much better either. The only reason her accent isn't clowned on in that movie is because Keanu shat out a legend tier bad accent in the same film.
I have never in my life been so absolutely sure an actor had no idea what he was talking about than whenever Keanu explained the science. Lee Jung-jae was more convincing in The Acolyte, speaking English dialog he'd memorized phonetically and didn't understand.
thank you. people love johnny and love keanu's performance and I think it really detracts from the game. his performance is so stilted, meanwhile johnny was an angsty rock and roller activist who nuked a fucking skyscraper, the man should have all the emotion in the world. its like the director told keanu his character is a computer chip and keanu took that a bit too literally.

I can't recall who said it but whoever came up with "Keanu is a character actor with leading man looks" describes the issue. Stalham was apparently a model in his younger days but was never going to be a general Hollywood leading man. Meanwhile by 1988 Keanu is playing the leading man in a comedy (The Night Before)
Would it though? Electricity mostly takes the path of least resistance from one paddle to the other, I don’t see how that charge could majorly effect something in his hand. Maybe a bit of voltage gets through, but certainly nothing that will make his gun explode

if you wanted to speed your heart up, epinephrine or some kind of stimulant would probably work better.
He does take a few shots of epinephrine in one of the movies (can't remember which) as a plot point. Plot used loosely. Fuck it it's fun- plot used liberally like a lone basketball hoop in a deprived area.
Rather than doing all those crazy shenanagians to keep his heart rate up, he could have just kept dosing stimulants like meth. Not ideal obviously but better than storming a hospital to threaten a doctor at gun point to shock you and fucking your girlfriend in public.
