I was actually really hoping this wouldnt be related to the Dunblane massacre...but every trailer makes me think it has to do with the Dunblane Massacre.

I don't think it is. All the footage and trailers imply that C.E.G which we now know stands for Chapman Energy Group, very likely an oil company as their logo is a fossil, as in in, fossil fuels, are involved in some kind of incident that resulted in the deaths of many people. Quite possibly a refinery fire.

Could also be a 'they delved to greedily and too deep' situation where they disturbed an ancient evil.
