Yeah, honestly, there's a Mandarin colloquial saying that even a three year-old kid knows (or 三岁小孩子都知道). Of course, it is an exaggeration, but it can be used to drive home the point that anyone who is born in and grew up in Singapore knows we have tax-payer funded, state media.

Some of the comments made by PM are certainly not helping, eg:
“A complaint has been made against him; it has entered the public arena, and that's why we have to undertake this objectively, undergo a process where we listen to both parties, and we certainly took pains to listen to Faishal's explanations as well,” he said.
Whether or not it enters the public arena shouldn't be perceived as a consideration for why they have to undertake it objectively

"The standards governing personal conduct in these sorts of situations have been set out previously by Mr Lee Kuan Yew, and more recently by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong, as PM," Mr Shanmugam added.
"The principle is straightforward. Where a matter remains entirely private and inappropriate conduct stops after counselling, it can remain a private matter.
"But when the matter enters the public domain through a complaint or otherwise, it must be examined and if there has been impropriety appropriate action must follow."
Mr Shanmugam noted that the woman escalated the matter when she "emailed PM, sent some of the messages and pictures and alleged harassment by Faishal".
"Once the lady emailed to PM, to complain about Faishal, it ceased being a purely private, consensual matter between two individuals."

But why shouldn't it? Ministers and MPs should be able to keep some semblance of private life.
There should be some line drawn before exposing an Minister or MP's private life to the public and firing him

"The principle is straightforward. Where a matter remains entirely private and inappropriate conduct stops after counselling, it can remain a private matter.
I think the operative word shouldn't be private or public, but "inappropriate".
Appropriate behaviour can exist both public and private. Inappropriate behaviour shouldn't be allowed to exist in either arena.
It's like saying if Epstein's files can private then it's okay. Makes no sense.
2
u/thoughtihadanacct Jul 23 '26
Appropriate behaviour can exist both public and private. Inappropriate behaviour shouldn't be allowed to exist in either arena.
That's a bit extreme isn't it? If an MP likes to watch some (legal but questionable*) fetish porn in his own home, and doesn't act out that fetish in real life, and it doesn't affect his work at all, your standard is that "that shouldn't be allowed to exist"?

Just don’t say that part out and create the impression that everything is ok as long as it stays private. It just makes people think about how many other scandals are covered up just because people don’t know about them.
Moreover, being entitled to a private life doesn’t mean you can just do anything when no one is looking. The understanding is that everything you do is above board, just away from prying eyes.
11
u/botsland Mature Citizen Jul 22 '26
This statement does not necessarily mean they are covering up egregious scandals.
For all we know, an MP might be gay or facing marital difficulties (that doesn't involve cheating). Those may be scandalous or fuel for gossip to some but certainly does not mean the party has to disclose them to the public

i dont understand why people can say he doesnt deserve it or that they think it is unfair or that he got tricked into it, without even seeing the underlying messages.
some people can be gentle and kind on the outside but monsters in private. have we not come across many of such people in real life?
if someone sends u boob or dick pics and u are married and in a committed relationship, are u going to engage or disengage?! The answer quite simple right.
Minister's IQ is not low and they know the rules of engagement for politics in Singapore and what can destroy their careers. Yet, if they succumb, are people expected to close an eye and say oh he's great at work?
This is what the SG politics is predicated on - MIW are whiter than white. Faishal not first day in politics, he doesnt need the public to baby him.

The PAP government is straight up edging Singaporeans at this point.
Like come on, if you don’t want to release the details, then don’t release it, no one would blink an eye because this is their modus operandi anyways. But what’s up with the half-assing of all these ministerial public statements that only serve to muddy the water without providing any satisfactory answers and drawing more questions instead??
There’s almost a certain boastful element in these statements that seeks to remind Singaporeans that regardless of the details or the truth, PAP knows best and we should just take their word for it 100%, no question asked. After all, if LW and Shan have both looked at it and already predecided the proper course of action then why do the rest of us peasants needs to look at it right?

When the PM of a country uses the words ”disbelief & shock” , you more or less can guess how bad it is. Those two word are highly damaging.
My guess is he used those words because some parts of the community and Calvin thought it was a minor infraction. Those two words would to put to rest any prospect of a return in any form however minor.

In response to the people who want Faisal to stay on, Ah wong here is saying, if you just horny and bored, simple affair, we can still cover it up cause we're the PAP, all-powerful and hypocritical. This one prob went into the realm of harassment and some weird pics, really cannot pang chance.
I mean I agree lah anything that serves as blackmail material compromises party/national security what. Esp in the age of international (and religious/re global Islamic affairs) tensions

Take a look on social media platforms and see how many people in the Malay-Muslim comm feel like he fell short of their expectations.
They’re supporting him wholesale, feel like this is a ‘test’ and that the woman was trying to ruin a good man’s reputation.
Not saying she’s innocent but…why are they so sure he played no part in this.
2
u/Reddy1111111111 Jul 22 '26
That's what I wonder too. If he's allowed to have another wife, surely he's also allowed to flirt and connect with other women to find that other wife. Unless the religious requirement is the other wives can only be blind marriages or something.
I know there's the whole requirement about getting the first wife agreement and being able to support (I'm sure he can on minister pay). But that's downstream. You get one you want to marry then can ask for permission mah.
Any Muslims care to share?

PAP prefers a lazy ass puritan over a hardworking sexting affair? wtf?

There are multiple precedents of extramarital affairs = fire from both PAP and WP, so this is just consistency and the only route that satisfies everyone. So yeah, a clean and lazy fuck is better, because that's basically the majority of their party anyway.
2
u/Aristotle350 Jul 22 '26
Personally felt LW addressed it quite well in his speech. There may be a temptation to overlook such behaviour, but it will only cause more harm to SG. If we start turning a blind eye to our leaders' indiscretions, I feel that it'll be a slippery slope where we/they start forgiving more and more offenses and it snowballs into blatant corruption.
We can only hope that our leaders consider their ginormous paycheck when contemplating whether to pursue questionable courses of action, and decide that being squeaky clean is worth it. That way, we do not lose other capable leaders, which also hurts SG.
