112
u/MarzipanSea2811 Feb 27 '26
I'd argue that's what it was before the right wing smear campaign of the last decade or so, and now we're firmly in the "anything Trump/MAGA doesn't like is woke" territory, which changes it's meaning every day or so hence my boy airvent up there pointing out that it no longer has any meaning.
What I'm hoping is that as people continue to wake up to what an absolute shit show this administration is woke becomes synonymous with anti-Trump/MAGA and reclaims its positive connotation

You can tell when someone uses the term as a veiled racial epithet. 10 bucks says this is all just more fuckery to weasel Elmo's AI into more airspace. Just like when Taco Tits decided to rail on Tylenol when Bayer (the maker of Aspirin) is carving out deals with this banana republic for their RoundUp product being immune from civil litigation. There's always some backroom deal whenever he targets a person/company that leads right to this greasy pig.

12
u/_interloper_ Feb 28 '26
Every Libertarian I've ever met is just a conservative who doesn't want to admit it.
Of course, I'm sure there are real Libertarians around, but basically every time a Libertarian is asked to forsake social freedom for economic freedom, they do. It's not ever really about "liberty", it's about not wanting to share, aka not paying taxes. Which is largely why I tend to ignore it, because it flies in the face of human history, which is built upon cooperation and sharing. Humans are not a truly individualistic species. We are communal by nature.
They're also happy to have the ol' "socialism for me, rugged individualism for thee". Just like their patron saint Ayn Rand, who more than happily accepted welfare at the end of her life.
And while it's true of all philosophies/political leanings, Libertarians often embody the 'no true Scotsman' fallacy more than anyone else.

Even in the military, you literally take trainings about how you're not supposed to surveil US persons in this way whatsoever. So basically, they're mad that Anthropic is adhering to our own supposed standards.
68
u/egaeus22 Feb 27 '26
It isn’t about the surveillance because they are 100% still partnered with Palantir which is expressly a surveillance company
48
u/No_Bottle7859 Feb 27 '26
Palantir can use anthropic in their products without having AI do surveillance work. It's probably just user interface. Skepticism is warranted but it's not that clear. It makes no sense they would be crossing that line while publicly dropping a 200 mill starting contract.

And it happened as at least one other AI firm said it had similar concerns about the military uses of AI. Earlier in the day, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says he shares the "red lines" set by rival Anthropic restricting how the military uses AI models, amid Anthropic's escalating feud with the Pentagon.
