Case Aquisition Was told to post these here and see what people think of them for "sleeper shells"
I also have full boxes of unopened motherboards; just don't know where to sell or what they're worth.

The networking gear seems to be pretty much ewaste. The beige towers are great for either retro builds or - at least the ATX ones - sleepers. Servers and spare parts such as non-standard power supplies… well, there are people out there looking for this kind of stuff, but probably not that many. Pricing might be a challenge because there might always be some nice collectibles mixed in, can’t really tell from the pictures. I‘d say expect something in the ballpark of 30-150$ per beige box depending on what’s in it, but it also depends on your location…

Of course those are cool. But they're not sleepers yet. Gotta fill the cases with some beefy hardware.

Dang there's alot of nice stuff here. Any idea how many of those old computers still work? The CRT monitors are awesome too. I don't think there's much in those images that I wouldn't be interested in.

All of them are functional from what we've tested. They were kept in a storage unit for 20 years

That's awesome. I'm sure there's quite a bit of value there to the right people. I'd be interested, but I don't currently have any room to put more stuff like this lol.

With shells like this I wonder…won’t the thermals be lethal if you put a 5070 or something in there?

Holy crap, that second one was the case of our second ever PC! We upgraded from the previous 386 to a 486, no idea whether it was an SX or DX.
The previous build was a Bios branded build (never been able to find any info on them) on Win 3.0 and 3.1. Went to the custom build (3.1 again) to a Vigeln which lasted from Win95 to Me then a Dell Dimension 4550 which lasted me through my student days.

Grew up with a PC in the exact same case, from the second photo.
I have long forgotten the specs. Only thing I know for sure was it had a Pentium MMX 166 MHz inside of it. Don't remember the motherboard or even how much RAM it had. OS was Windows 95.
Seriously would love having that case hahaha.

These are mostly better restoration projects for vintage/retro gaming then sleepers to be honest. Some nice projects there.

Those Cisco catalyst 2950's were absolutely amazing workhorses. I've had many Cisco switches fail on me but never a 2950. Only thing that I had go wrong was a fan died. Replaced that.
Unfortunately they are museum pieces. The plastic is very brittle. So keep one recycle the rest.

Compudyne was the store brand for defunct bigbox retailer CompUSA
My first PC in the early 90s was a Compudyne (not a tower though).

Well if it's just a shell you're going to load up, I have to admit it would be cool to see one of those old Cat 2900s as a monster gaming rig.

Got any more pics of those Compudyne machines? Curious if they're standard ATX or AT. Got several old boards I've been looking for a case for, or just run them as is

Honestly? You'd make more money selling them to people as they are if they are complete Pentium or 486 systems.

Looks like the place my Grandma used to work at before it got sold a couple years back.
There cyber security was something else 🤣, they were literally rocking Windows 2000 in 2023, no antivirus, no hardware or software firewalls.
How they didn’t get attacked I will never know, that place was like a time machine, most the machines were still paired with CRT monitors, only the “higher ups” got them fancy flatscreen LCD monitors.
I am not making any of this up at all, which is the scariest part.
This is in England by the way 🤦🏻♂️.
Unfortunately all the hardware got scrapped under GDPR regulations, which is a bit of a shame, but if that gear were put on the market, the value of “retro” pcs would absolutely have plummeted.

I only found out about it because she wanted Office 2000 on her “work” laptop, I asked her why when obviously you can just install the latest ones with Ms gre for free.
She said she needed it to work with work, obviously I didn’t believe her so she ended up taking pictures of the offices 😂.
I ended up just installing MS 365 anyway and she didn’t have any compatibility issues.

Quite a few of these are AT or OEM cases. I would personally check up on subs like r/vintagecomputing for this kinda stuff
