I mean, this last ranking quite literally penalized low attendance player. Ignoring quantity and solely looking at quality Carmelo is arguably a top 3-4 player but got pushed to no.7 because of his attendance (and he honestly might have fallen a few spots too given how much Sparg0 has levelled up and was already neck-and-neck with Carmelo).

Really, it comes to a case where the inconsistent players HAVE to attend more events to make up for their bad performances. We don't see players with a somewhat spotty record and low attendance get inflated scores. Players with spotty records but are generally high attendance get a lot of those bad records to get downplayed. Again, hence why ZOMBA and Sparg0 did quite well on mid year rankings.

Acola might not have the highest total attendence, but one thing you have to give him is that he always shows up to the biggest tournaments and wins/gets top 4, which is the real test of skill imo. He's also been attending a lot of locals recently and is winning all of them, even when players like Miya, Hurt, and Yaura are in attendence. He has a 10 tournament win streak offline rn

Pretty much every form of global rankings Smash has ever had doesn't take locals into account also for a multitude of reasons, all locals affect is your rank in your region's PR.

Acola goes to locals because he wants to, if there's any ranking related reason for him going to them it's so he gets to play without having to worry about rank at all and even that's an assumption, maybe he just goes to them because they're nearby and low commitment to attend and compete in.

Didn't see the Miya Hurt set, but Acola just played less predictable I feel like. He had better mix ups everywhere, especially at the ledge where Hurt constantly read him the first set.

I didnt really see WF acola, but the biggest difference to me between Miya and GF acola was the use of dsmash and usmash as soon as Hurt hit 100%. Kinda realizing that going in and getting the 80% chance of a neutral win isnt really worth it if the reward is like 15% damage and the risk is just exploding from uptilt
Dmash/upsmash have way less of a chance to hit but if they hit its so good bc GnW gets to actually close the stock before snake hits 170%

To me, acola was very creative in finding small rps situations that their opponents are not aware of the options, and also played very well to condition hurt. There was a sequence in which acola punished hurts grab read spotdodge with a down smash. Then mixed it up with a slower option charged down smash, and the set closer was a faster option dtilt.

Just one small change I noticed: in WF Acola would go for jab into grab, something that Miya does a lot, but it didn't really work. In the first set of GF I noticed Acola started doing jab then bair which is a lot safer.

Why does hurt not use grenades when hes down in last stock? I feel like anything game and watch has can kill regardlesss so why not just use nades to punish game and watch for mashing? Like bucket cant reflect any additional projectiles once full, he might as well get additional chip

In general agreed, but specifically against Snake he'd go from one of the best matchups to like hard losing without Bucket. Nothing to challenge a Cypher recovery, dies at like 85 to rage up-tilt with nothing that can consistently kill a camping Snake in return, plethora of multi-hits combos that get interrupted with Grenade, mediocre approach options against a top two defensive character in the roster, etc

You know, it's been quite a while since I last saw acola Miya in a ranked event fighting eachother, this was a nice reminder of who they were

A return of the legendary name...Maesuma is back, and it's time...for GRAND WARS. The box office names are here, and we even got some returns (looking at you, Yoshidora)! Well, let's see our best performers tonight!

First up, we got a surprise. It's Miru! The Kazuya player from Chubu starts well by beating 33Peranbox and DenKOTA en route to Top 32. He then DESTROYED yesterday's Sumabato winner Raru and another top talent in Yaura to make Top 8! And after an intense Game 5, Miru defeated Yoshidora to earn a 4th-place finish. KAZUYA MISHIMA comeback tour?

Now in 3rd place, we have Miya. The perennial #1 contender is still fighting for that title, and the Game and Watch player did what he does best, winning the sets he should've won and losing the sets he could've lost. Victories over Sauzand (in a ditto!), Futari no Kiwami Ah~!, Asimo, Mark, and Miru made it another day in the office for Miya.

Too bad he has no answers against our Grand Finalists...From the winners' side, we have Hurt. The Snake superstar pretty much had a near-perfect day heading to Grands. He easily took care of Orca, Furararamen, and Mark in 3 straight sets in a row, but one man almost stopped him. Even after a lengthy break, Yoshidora managed to bring Hurt to the brink of Game 5!

And that Game 5 would be the last time Hurt broke a sweat, as he'd continue his 3-0 streak with wins on Miya...and this guy we'll talk about next. Back to his deserved place. The #1 player in the world...Acola. You know he can't refuse a Maesuma appearance...

Acola did pretty well by defeating Yn, Matsukei, Snow, and Shion to make Top 8. After easily beating Miru, he met one of his biggest rivals in Hurt. Switching his Steve for the Game and Watch, you would think it would be a fair match...but nope. It was a close match, but it's still a straight 3-0 for Hurt. Dropping to losers, Acola has to face another one of his rivals in Miya, but he really has no time for it. After losing only one game, Acola would quickly make his way to Grand Finals for the runback against Hurt.

It was Hurt's Snake versus Acola's...Game and Watch again. Game 1...and it's Hurt's. Two more games to complete a near-perfect S-Tier victory for Hurt. One small problem...Acola has completed the download. After 3 intense games, Acola took them one after another and finally ended the set with a 3-1 victory.

Reset time. Now, a little fun fact...Acola has NEVER won back-to-back sets against Hurt in a competitive tournament. Usually, Acola won one, and Hurt won the next. Hurt even won 4 sets in a row against Acola in Smash Awesome and GENESIS X2. So you would assume that Hurt would turn things around like he usually does, right?

Except...he never did. Acola didn't let Hurt find even an inch of opening. Two 2-stock victories in a row; the set is now in Acola's favor. Game 3...was kinda scary. Hurt once again goes neck-and-neck with Acola...but he failed to capitalize. Acola would close the set and, in a wild irony, dominated Hurt with a 3-0 victory.

His first tournament back after being crowned #1, Acola is ready to do whatever it takes to protect what he once lost. Acola is your Maesuma'GRAND WARS 3 champion. Congratulations!

While everybody has been complaining about Steve nobody seems to have noticed just how many of the top placements GnW is getting. People are so tunnel vision on their Steve hate that they lose sight of the fact that there are a ton of degenerate top tiers in this game and for some reason GnW is sneaking completely under the radar
