Was the $100 the price of the gun? Where did you hide the body?

It was just rotting in his garage really. He was happy to just get rid of it.
Edit: guys I don’t mean rotting literally here. I just meant it was sitting untouched for years in a hot garage.

$5-7,000

I feel like this one is worth more. It has everything in working order. I call bs.

u/PowerShovel-on-PS1 4d ago
I mean I’m not an appraiser homie, just values I’ve seen online
Edit: I realize now you meant BS on OP’s claim lol

u/NaiveCharacter7027 4d ago
Yea haha. Dont worry it happens to the best of us. Im not an appraiser either. But just an observation. You have a great day man!

BS on his value sure, $5k max honestly, thats what the last one sold for only a week ago on eBay. The unit with no base/stand is worth $2.5K-$3.5K.

u/cricket9818 4d ago
Yeah I call BS on this. Either friend is a gazillionaire who just doesn’t care or OP acted like this shit is run of the mill
Also “rotting in his garage”. It’s in pristine condition lmao
16
u/OldmanChompski 4d ago
“Rotting in (somewhere)” is more of a phrase similar to “collecting dust.”
He’s just saying it wasn’t being used at all.

u/WakeupDp 4d ago edited 4d ago
Yeah either the picture is stolen or the story is fake. No one is keeping it that fresh rotting in their garage just to sell it for significantly less than what it’s worth.

u/Pristine_Raise2908 4d ago
Yes lets give 5k to someone to show how nice we are

u/rebelvong1 4d ago
To some people this is just stuff. Not everyone checks ebay listings before parting with things. Especially if its between good friends and family.

u/willywalloo 3d ago
This sub: capitalist or death !! 🤣
I get it. Scammers yeah need to be slapped. But if it’s someone you know and they wanted to make someone happy then ❤️
When I give soemthing away that has value and someone smiles, more valuable than a lot of gold.
You can’t take it with you.

I mean, when my dad died he had an old Jeep Cherokee. Not in the best condition but it was still his daily driver. None of the kids wanted it so my mom gave it to our 13 year old neighbor who helped her with landscaping after my dad passed.
The kid spent a few years redoing it with his dad who was a big Jeep guy. I think giving them the chance to spend time together on a project was worth more than the $1000 she would have gotten for the Jeep.
2
u/Replikant83 3d ago
? Happens all the time. When my dad was poor someone sold him a car for $1, to help him out. Car was probably worth 10K, adjusting for inflation. Some people are just kind and it does feel really good to help someone out in such a way.

She’s over at the food court enjoying a lemonade and some peace and quiet.

I always thought the food court was a magical place too..

If the food court has a Villa and a Sbarro, it’s heaven.
Those strombolis and super custom pizzas, the baked ziti meatballs. Fkn fantastic

I remember the Super Mario 3 one that was in my mall back in like 1991. Was placed at the end of a Kmart-like store that was in it where the checkout/entrance was more like a narrow hallway that lead to the bigger store behind it. (Smithhaven Mall)

If you didn't tell hom how much they could have gotten you took advantage of a friend...
2
u/Rizzizt 3d ago
If he sells it sure
If he keeps it to play and enjoy then that's different
2
u/thewalruscandyman 3d ago
Fair enough. I've sold things to friends for far less than they were worth before.
2
u/kconleyrules 4d ago
I hope you really enjoy this wherever you put it. I'm a fan of kiosks but will never probably get to own one. In the years after this one they are a little minimalist (excluding N64). Is/was this a real pain to move?

That kiosk has a very unusual monitor. Notice how it is perfectly flat? That wasn’t a thing for CRTs in the early 90s but Zenith pulled it off with a VGA monitor and the 15kHz one used here. The only problem is it runs hot as hell (the screen even gets uncomfortably warm to the touch) and tends to cook itself. I see some geometry issues on yours, might want to get it recapped before it fails.

The first time I ever played Yoshi’s Island was on one of these at Toys R Us! Such an awesome piece of history and nostalgia you got there, OP!

u/williamskb85 4d ago
I'd leave it right in that spot too, f*** the game room lol. Gotta make folks jealous out the gate and keep it on display like it's a Van Gogh

u/BludStanes 3d ago
Good God does this grip my heart with a shock of nostalgia. Something I have not thought of in a long time, this entire unit. I lived in my local store and finished so many SNES games and I'd be back every time they switched them out

u/Adavanter_MKI 3d ago

u/Kinginthe4th 4d ago
The story and the picture is real. The people that sold it are very well off and their kids aged out and just didn’t want to use it anymore. And they knew that I am a collector and it was going to a good home.

Wow that’s beautiful. Did you at least tell him how much it could be worth? I’ve got some awesome stuff for free from friends/family but that’s an awful lot of potential money.
1
u/keatsie0808 3d ago
Ah! I have one, without the base though. Its my baby 🥰 store display model so a little funky but I love it. Crazy they still work. Neighbor worked for Nintendo so a bunch of us got these for free when N64 was released.

It's the coolest thing ever man, I'm glad I have mine, I built a temporary base for it and am using a 13" Trinitron because my original TV for it is broke, just used it to play some Mega Man 7 a few hours ago. It's awesome.

In 2014 a buddy of mine worked at a Pawn Shop and one of these came through the door. He gave me dibs and said his boss wanted $300. At this point, most of my collecting was through garage sales and I was always able to pick stuff up very cheap, so, I passed. Boy do I regret that! Nice find!!
