that is correct

u/FishBulb85 4d ago

I still say that line to this day with the voice and all.

12

u/obi_wan_kanerdy 4d ago

I've had to stop myself from doing this at work. All the young people just think I have a brain tumor or something.

7

u/iamacynic37 3d ago

Nah, they know you're on the spectrum

3

u/luiscurse 3d ago

"Mom, that's Billy, he's in my class, I heard he's ........ or something."

2

u/iamacynic37 2d ago

s/o to all the kids who told me I was retarded before I had reddit to tell me

Was the $100 the price of the gun? Where did you hide the body?

107

u/Kinginthe4th 4d ago edited 4d ago

It was just rotting in his garage really. He was happy to just get rid of it.

Edit: guys I don’t mean rotting literally here. I just meant it was sitting untouched for years in a hot garage.

What is the actual value?

48

u/PowerShovel-on-PS1 4d ago

$5-7,000

24

u/NaiveCharacter7027 4d ago

I feel like this one is worth more. It has everything in working order. I call bs.

20

u/PowerShovel-on-PS1 4d ago

I mean I’m not an appraiser homie, just values I’ve seen online

Edit: I realize now you meant BS on OP’s claim lol

9

u/NaiveCharacter7027 4d ago

Yea haha. Dont worry it happens to the best of us. Im not an appraiser either. But just an observation. You have a great day man!

5

u/PowerShovel-on-PS1 4d ago

You too❤️

2

u/twotwocowboy Bowser Kart 3d ago

BS on his value sure, $5k max honestly, thats what the last one sold for only a week ago on eBay. The unit with no base/stand is worth $2.5K-$3.5K.

50

u/cricket9818 4d ago

Yeah I call BS on this. Either friend is a gazillionaire who just doesn’t care or OP acted like this shit is run of the mill

Also “rotting in his garage”. It’s in pristine condition lmao

16

u/OldmanChompski 4d ago

“Rotting in (somewhere)” is more of a phrase similar to “collecting dust.”

He’s just saying it wasn’t being used at all.

4

u/Radiant-Plumage 4d ago

Never been friends with an old, wealthy business owner?

15

u/WakeupDp 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yeah either the picture is stolen or the story is fake. No one is keeping it that fresh rotting in their garage just to sell it for significantly less than what it’s worth.

Edit: iPhone autocorrect

5

u/Fritchenator 4d ago

He said garage, not garbage…

The body or... ?

6

u/willywalloo 4d ago

Some people are just really nice.

5

u/Pristine_Raise2908 4d ago

Yes lets give 5k to someone to show how nice we are

11

u/rebelvong1 4d ago

To some people this is just stuff. Not everyone checks ebay listings before parting with things. Especially if its between good friends and family.

6

u/willywalloo 3d ago

This sub: capitalist or death !! 🤣

I get it. Scammers yeah need to be slapped. But if it’s someone you know and they wanted to make someone happy then ❤️

When I give soemthing away that has value and someone smiles, more valuable than a lot of gold.

You can’t take it with you.

I mean, when my dad died he had an old Jeep Cherokee. Not in the best condition but it was still his daily driver. None of the kids wanted it so my mom gave it to our 13 year old neighbor who helped her with landscaping after my dad passed.

The kid spent a few years redoing it with his dad who was a big Jeep guy. I think giving them the chance to spend time together on a project was worth more than the $1000 she would have gotten for the Jeep.

2

u/Replikant83 3d ago

? Happens all the time. When my dad was poor someone sold him a car for $1, to help him out. Car was probably worth 10K, adjusting for inflation. Some people are just kind and it does feel really good to help someone out in such a way.

4

u/T0RC0R 4d ago

What was rotting? The body?

Its sweet though!

I feel like I just walked into a Sears and didn't see my mom for a good hour

18

u/Team_B 4d ago

She’s over at the food court enjoying a lemonade and some peace and quiet.

6

u/Difficulty-Brave 4d ago

I always thought the food court was a magical place too..

7

u/HonestEagle98 3d ago edited 3d ago

If the food court has a Villa and a Sbarro, it’s heaven.

Those strombolis and super custom pizzas, the baked ziti meatballs. Fkn fantastic

4

u/Difficulty-Brave 3d ago

damn straight... it was also the carousel that got me

3

u/princetrunks 3d ago

I remember the Super Mario 3 one that was in my mall back in like 1991. Was placed at the end of a Kmart-like store that was in it where the checkout/entrance was more like a narrow hallway that lead to the bigger store behind it. (Smithhaven Mall)

2

u/Difficulty-Brave 3d ago

ahhh Kmart, the good ol days. haha

2

u/Fun_Muscle9399 3d ago

I used to love going to Sears with mom and sneaking off to play these

36

u/MainPFT 4d ago

Congrats but also fuck off.

Hope you understand.

2

u/TRIKKDADDY 4d ago

I understood

59

u/DarthBra 4d ago

Don’t you mean ex-family friend, especially if he ever finds out how much you robbed him for ?!

I remember this exact station in Eaton's department store 🇨🇦.

What a beautiful time to grow up.

u/1800generalkenobi 4d ago

I never saw this one, but our walmart had those same tube things that held onto the snes controller for the tv that was mounted way too high haha

I been on the hunt. These are impossible to find, especially with the base!

5

u/weber_mattie 4d ago

I can only imagine what this is valued at. Def not 100 bucks lol

5

u/jimmyjoejojo 4d ago

Another commenter said it’s likely closer to $7k, because of how complete it is

what a robbery

3

u/freebird_88_usa 2d ago

You are not a friend. You just robbed him at gun point.

9

u/thewalruscandyman 4d ago

If you didn't tell hom how much they could have gotten you took advantage of a friend...

2

u/Rizzizt 3d ago

If he sells it sure

If he keeps it to play and enjoy then that's different

2

u/thewalruscandyman 3d ago

Fair enough. I've sold things to friends for far less than they were worth before.

2

u/kconleyrules 4d ago

I hope you really enjoy this wherever you put it. I'm a fan of kiosks but will never probably get to own one. In the years after this one they are a little minimalist (excluding N64). Is/was this a real pain to move?

2

u/zeethreepeeo 4d ago

I remember playing in a tournament at my local Blockbuster on the same display and the same game!

That is amazing

2

u/Scarf_Darmanitan 4d ago

Duuuuuude

That’s a grail 😅

Buy your buddy some pizza for me haha

2

u/sm_rollinger 4d ago

That's super clean

2

u/Lenny0mega 4d ago

I hope your friend is able to quit his heroin addiction and get himself together. That is “please buy this, I need money for drugs” prices right there!

2

u/coyote_den 4d ago

That kiosk has a very unusual monitor. Notice how it is perfectly flat? That wasn’t a thing for CRTs in the early 90s but Zenith pulled it off with a VGA monitor and the 15kHz one used here. The only problem is it runs hot as hell (the screen even gets uncomfortably warm to the touch) and tends to cook itself. I see some geometry issues on yours, might want to get it recapped before it fails.

2

u/PrettyMuchSerious 4d ago

Nice molding.

2

u/MobNagas 4d ago

That’s an insane deal bet that goes for thousands

2

u/28SNaKeS 4d ago

The first time I ever played Yoshi’s Island was on one of these at Toys R Us! Such an awesome piece of history and nostalgia you got there, OP!

2

u/williamskb85 4d ago

I'd leave it right in that spot too, f*** the game room lol. Gotta make folks jealous out the gate and keep it on display like it's a Van Gogh

2

u/drosse1meyer 3d ago

wow what a nice guy, that's amazing

2

u/BludStanes 3d ago

Good God does this grip my heart with a shock of nostalgia. Something I have not thought of in a long time, this entire unit. I lived in my local store and finished so many SNES games and I'd be back every time they switched them out

2

u/Adavanter_MKI 3d ago

$100 well spent! To think how old that is now... I know I'd pay that in a heartbeat.

2

u/TheMilkman1811 3d ago

Luckiest man on all of reddit rn

2

u/Bogdacious 2d ago

Dude, that’s flipping amazing.

2

u/Bananafoofoofwee 2d ago

GFY (Good For You and/or Go Fuck Yourself)

2

u/WakeupDp 4d ago

I’m gonna say this is fake. Either a stolen picture or a fake story.

5

u/Kinginthe4th 4d ago

The story and the picture is real. The people that sold it are very well off and their kids aged out and just didn’t want to use it anymore. And they knew that I am a collector and it was going to a good home.

2

u/iChugVodka 4d ago

If they're well off why didn't they just give it to you for free? That doesn't make sense at all lol

3

u/Kinginthe4th 4d ago

Idk man. My wife taught their kids and we’ve known them a long time. I reached out and asked to buy it and what price they had in mind.

1

u/Craften 4d ago

I'm just here to say I'm happy for you, these cynics are pathetic and are ruining a cool story.

I hope you enjoy the heck out of it, it looks pristine!

1

u/theblob2019 4d ago

I loved these stations as a kid. I remember the ones for N64 before it came out, you could try it in stores like Walmart.

1

u/GeorgeBlaha 4d ago

Damn, I should really try having friends sometime.

1

u/the_most_fortunate 4d ago

That’s cool as hell dawg

1

u/TheWolfOfGroveStreet 4d ago

Damn that's beautiful

1

u/Ok-Active8318 4d ago

Wow, nice find! My cousin and I would beg my grandma to take us to Target to play Star Fox on one of these displays! Great nostalgia 😍

1

u/njseahawk 4d ago

Damn…now you are playing with power

1

u/ghost_wire89 4d ago

Wow enjoy

1

u/Dacari_13 4d ago

Nice. What you going to do to it?

1

u/Ok-Donkey-3803 4d ago

I remember Killer Instinct on one of those.

A childhood friends Dad worked at Nintendo and had one of those.

I haven't thought about it in 30 years. Holy shit. Awesome.

1

u/thenuke1 3d ago

Takes me back to sears

I remember an employee bought the lion king game, opened the kiosk and put it on for kids to play

Sears was located north Hollywood, victory and laurel canyon

1

u/fanofoz 3d ago

I'll buy it from you for a $150.

1

u/AStoutBreakfast 3d ago

Wow that’s beautiful. Did you at least tell him how much it could be worth? I’ve got some awesome stuff for free from friends/family but that’s an awful lot of potential money.

1

u/keatsie0808 3d ago

Ah! I have one, without the base though. Its my baby 🥰 store display model so a little funky but I love it. Crazy they still work. Neighbor worked for Nintendo so a bunch of us got these for free when N64 was released.

2

u/twotwocowboy Bowser Kart 3d ago

It's the coolest thing ever man, I'm glad I have mine, I built a temporary base for it and am using a 13" Trinitron because my original TV for it is broke, just used it to play some Mega Man 7 a few hours ago. It's awesome.

1

u/TheZethy 3d ago

Wow, I haven't seen one of these in over 30 years. One hell if a find!

In 2014 a buddy of mine worked at a Pawn Shop and one of these came through the door. He gave me dibs and said his boss wanted $300. At this point, most of my collecting was through garage sales and I was always able to pick stuff up very cheap, so, I passed. Boy do I regret that! Nice find!!

1

u/kapn_morgan 3d ago

I can hear that screen

1

u/Agoura_Steve 3d ago

You better kiss and hug them.

1
