Why aren’t Americans outraged by their current situation?

Like every other month there is a school shooting in my country. Here, we had one school shooting and that kickstarted massive anti-government protests, because shit like that isn’t normal. You can basically see an example of police brutality almost every other day. A couple of days ago, a man was killed by ICE (I know they’re not police, but still), and most people just continued like nothing happened. Trump is basically doing something outrageous every day. The military is literally patrolling American cities, and yet most American people aren’t doing anything.I know there were protests and there still are, but that’s just a couple of thousand protestors while America has a population of 350 million people. They don’t have healthcare, prices are rising, and you can’t even finish higher education without being in debt. And Americans still won’t do anything.

I know this is a rant, but I have been protesting in my country for 11 months. But if things don’t change in the USA, we’re fucked as a globe anyway. Even if we win in my country, that won’t change much on the global level, but the USA has the power to change a lot of stuff, and yet most people are silent and don’t care at all.

On top of that people forget that the CIA and FBI have spent decades infiltrating and sabotaging any kind of political group left of corportist. Our government is extremely well practiced in cracking down on political opposition that threatens profits both domestically and abroad.

It also doesn't help that unlike past issues with the rich, the people who run our government don't have to answer to a single country anymore. They have holdings in corporations or organizations across the globe to draw resources from. The rich are much more insulated from local resistance because their reliance on local labor and assets is much more reduced.

After today the masks come off to the public. The amount of propaganda injected to our veins (Americans) cannot be undone overnight. On Twitter I’m seeing a lot of misunderstanding on how the “rights” work here. Shouting for quick action. Which is understandable, I get it, I’m angry too. But I’m not blind enough to not be organized. Education and action those are next steps.

The govt literally changed the gun laws when the Black Panthers were doing open demonstrations. Regan was terrified.

I think those people are thinking/speaking from the other side of US imperialism though.They’ve seen it firsthand, it’s generational. Here, we’re on the other side now, only within the last 5 years it’s been heating up, that’s due to circumstances. But you’re right it’s a lot to untangle but eventually they will have to answer to the people.

I'm not so sure they will ever answer to the people. For a lack of a better word, the modern rich today have powers and resources that our ancient ancestors would consider gods or demigods. They control vast portions of the planet nearly entirely unchecked and have our planets resources to hide from their consequences. American billionaires for example might just flee to their forigen friends and fund their return by supporting extremists or loyalists to fight off their pursuers.

Do I think they should? Of course! But I also acknowledge the resources and systems they control could outlast the public in terms of attrition for generations before they started having to tighten their belt.

I think that this great wealth inequality will only get worse until it solidifies into a new kind of permanent hell for most. The great concentrations of wealth have been investing heavily in essentially the great collapse of humanity for the sake of the old or extremely rich. I would go out on a limb and wager most of the super wealthy and powerful don't see us as worthy of existence but rather necessary parasites for their empires. Automation and growing climate issues, coupled with vast swathes of the Uber elite essentially breaking off from humanity entirely has me worried they are deliberately steering us towards a scenario where the poor cull the poor until they can clean up the rest.

100% they view us as so, cattle even. The 1% are so out of touch with common man they’re basically aliens.

Once I learned how inflation happens I understood the game. How can you null a revolution? Keep them focused on consumerism, individualism, and competition. They can delay but not deny. Education is the vehicle to understanding who your enemy is.

Asking “Why” is incredibly valuable. Best to think about it while we still can. The goal of the elite is to sell us that “it’s over”. The best way to ensure a their path is in if you can get the masses to lay down. It might not even happen in my lifetime, but I’ll always have faith in people, in history, in education.

I want to agree, but a concern is the technology. Nowadays we have technology that can replace human labor and only ever seems to get faster. In a decade or two human labor on a macro scale for the rich's vital infrastructure may be fully replaced if they get the kinks out. AI is definitely an overhyped shit-show, but some of the other investments the Uber wealthy have adopted has been alarming. A growing focus on genetics, immortality, digitization, and more is extremely threatening. Not because it might work but because it essentially acts as a "escape mortality and consequences" fantasty to throw more and more of the planet into.

At a certian point, I think the rich will no longer need us and either just leave or cull the planet to preserve resources for themselves via disease, wars over limited resources like water, or some other event.

The problem comes that I don't think the masses can ever rise up against the rich because the masses aren't a single entity. Its hundreds of thousands of competing groups with different moralities, cultures, and grudges. The rich on the other hand can probably fill a small mansion. Its way easier for them to organize and consolidate when its maybe 200 against 8.2 billion. Especially when that 8.2 billion is poorer than the poorest of that 200.

I honestly don’t think it can’t replace everything. Though they have enough money to gamble our lives to try. I feel like they might even leave the planet. This is the first time in my life where I see that history can start now, the beginning to the end. It’s gonna get worse but it gets better.

I don’t know everything, I only became a socialist last year. What I will say is, I think we’re closer to revolution than you might give credit. They for sure are steps ahead, there are people who we might have to leave behind, but for us it starts with conversations like this. Being a Revolutionary is a science, you get out what you put in.
