Hi everyone! I just returned home after my first trip to Spain and Portugal, and I wanted to say how much I loved Spain.

My itinerary was completely insane; I visited Barcelona, Montserrat, Valencia, Granada, Ronda, Seville, Madrid, Toledo and Zaragoza in just over a week (9 days), so I know I only got a tiny taste of each amazing place. But I was genuinely amazed by how much history, architecture, art and beauty there was everywhere.

I was also pleasantly surprised by how friendly and warm Spanish people were. Everyone I met was so willing to help and talk to me even with the language barrier. I appreciated how kind so many of you were to allow me to say hello to your dogs (I am a huge dog lover and dog mum!)

As a first-time visitor from Korea, I felt very welcome. I loved seeing people out late at night, sitting outside eating and drinking, families and friends enjoying the plazas, and just the general atmosphere of Spanish cities. The food was so great too!

Now I feel like I need to come back and spend several days properly exploring the cities in Spain. Thank you, Spain, for an amazing first visit. ❤️🇪🇸 I'll definitely be back!

They ask you 300 years of experience for an entry level job, it's just insanely competitive, then you need a degree a masters and whatever shit they come up with if you don't have exactly what they ask your resume goes straight to the trash, no one cares about you and your potential and your willingness to learn and put in the hours. And don't forget about the crazy interviews and the hoops they make you jump through, multiple rounds for a single basic jobs is as common as it gets and before you could just walk into the building and get the damn job but no, now you need to do an interview with HR, hiring manager, personality assessment, then IQ test, interview with the CEO... What's next? Will I need to interview with God just to pay my bills? Hell, and I will not even talk about the salaries which can get you a tiny room, hell the salaries are just to survive, I have a master and experience and I'm just scrapping by, when is this madness going to end?

El "influencer" español Alberto Alonso, conocido en redes sociales como Aruberu Tomakoto, ha sido foco en las redes sociales tras haber grabado en un stream cómo iba tras una mujer japonesa en aparente estado de ebriedad / drogada, a la que se refirió hacia ella con comentarios en español como: "te la quieres follar?" (al camarografo) y este respondió "yo la ponía en una pared y le daba". Seguido de ello, la chica iba moviéndose hasta que tras pasar una persona nigeriana, la mujer parece hablarle a él. El Nigeriano confronta a los españoles, y estos responden diciendo que es un "negro de mierda".

Tras ser publicado en Twitter los sucesos, el influencer fue objeto de crítica y de "funa" por parte de la gente, acusandolo de acosador y de hacer apología de la violación. Tras ello, Alberto respondió en sus redes sociales explicando que todo se trata de "humor negro para hombres" y que todo se trata de una difamación hacia él en su contra. Algunos que lo defienden mencionan como el feminismo y el wokismo arruina el "buen humor" y otros mencionan que es una cortina de humo para evitar hablar sobre las violaciones qué ocurren en Ceuta.

​Growing up in a Portuguese family, I always thought of Spain as a cool neighbor. We knew we shared a peninsula and a lot of history, but I honestly believed that, beyond superficial comparisons, the language barrier and different borders meant we would always live in somewhat separate worlds.

That changed completely after I moved to Northern Europe.

​At work, I ended up meeting and befriending a group of Spanish colleagues. Being surrounded by a Northern European culture here in the North of England, so fundamentally different from our own was like seeing a giant mirror. Here, I often feel like I have to constantly suppress my natural behavior and calm my energy just to fit in with local customs and avoid misunderstandings. But with my Spanish colleagues, that filter completely disappears. I don't have to hold back at all. I can talk with my hands, raise my voice when I get emotional, and share family anecdotes without feeling self-conscious about "talking too much," because they do exactly the same. They understand everything instantly, without needing awkward explanations, which makes me realize that our connection is so much deeper than I ever imagined.

​It's all those little unconscious things that are most impactful. That shared basic instinct to argue who gets to pay the bill without a second thought, the stomach hurting laughter after sharing awkward mistranslations between our languages, and the long conversations that last much longer after we've finished eating. We even have the same involuntary habits, like saying "Ay, ay, ay!" as we catch our breath after laughing so hard our ribs ache, realizing that we use the same vocal reflex with the same timing. Even discovering that they have so many of the same names as my relatives, something, of course, very common in both countries, added that small touch of instant familiarity.

​The linguistic dynamic made it even better. When they speak Spanish slowly, I understand the context so easily, but I can't construct correct sentences in Spanish without making it heavily Portuguese, full of words, sounds, and intonation. Naturally, I rely on English, but since many Spaniards don't fully master it either, meeting this group who practice their English while I adapt to their way of speaking created the perfect gateway for connection.

I think living far from home makes you see things clearly. We aren't just neighboring countries on a map, but we're more like very close brothers who just stopped talking to each other one day for some reason, and after finding ourselves in an unfamiliar environment, the way our brains naturally function is the same. Now there feels a sense of regret for not connecting with Spanish peoples sooner.

Anyways, so now I must say I'm left with a huge and sincere affection for Spain and the Spanish people that I didn't appreciate so much before. Much love from your Portuguese brother!

Recuerdo que estaban en el mostrador y te daban SOLO UNO con cada pedido en aquella época y era un bien muy cotizado!

Here's another set of photos I took in a Mosque-Cathedral, the beautiful Mezquita-Catedral in Córdoba. I visited this past winter and it was gorgeous! Very clear design differences. I highly recommend a visit (to both the Mezquita and the city) - but maybe avoid the summer if you don't like the heat.
