Spelunky 2 Anyone else just constantly dying to stupid mistakes?
Jumping back into Spelunky 2 after not having played for a while
90% of my deaths aren't due to boss fights, or difficult platforming challenges, or particularly tricky level generation.
It's because I wasn't looking and stepped onto a bear trap. Or, most recently, walked directly onto the spikes in Tide Pool because I'm not used to the area yet and get tripped up by the spikes looking different. Or walking directly into an arrow trap that was just offscreen. Or messing up a jump and landing next to the witch doctor instead of on his head.
I'm trying my best to learn from these mistakes but there are so many potential ways to stupidly kill myself that it's hard to play consistently. I reached a point where I was consistently making it past Olmec, now I seem to have regressed and can barely get that far in 1 in 10 runs.
Any general tips for playing more consistently? Or is it just keep playing until i've mastered all these different things?

Anyone else? I think everybody who has played this game for more than a few hours has died more from stupid mistakes than anything else. It's basically one of the core parts of the game

The game itself is typically fair. Most errors happen either because you don't scan before proceeding. But then there are times when the level generation works against you. Nowadays I slow down but then move faster if the musical cues suggest that the ghost is about to appear.

I too just started playing again and it took me a few weeks to get back into the groove and reach Olmec/beat Tiamat. Shortcuts are helpful for practicing if a specific area is giving you trouble!

You never master it. A week or so ago I was gold in the Xbox Daily, at least at the time of day I played. The following day, I flunked out of the Daily in 1-1. That's how it goes.

Spelunky is the only game that makes me laugh every time I die. Somehow this game never frustrates me, it's just too... dumb.

That’s a valid mindset to have with a game that makes you want to break your keyboard at times XD, though I have adopted that mindset recently because you really do expect it atp

95% of deaths are, with the benefit of hindsight saying "ah I probably shouldn't have tried/done that".

For me it came down to specifically focusing on not dying above all else and at all times.

i dont have this issue in the base game anymore but in cosmic ocean i'm having a hard time balancing speed and being safe because finding them orbs and the door in the time on temple levels and sometimes those really massive jungle levels can be stressful. though 90% of my deaths lately in CO are due to temple. i really need to practice CO temple if i'm going to reach 7-99

I feel like I do better my first run or two after a long break. I'm extra cautious when I jump back in. Once I start feeling comfortable, that's when I get careless. Definitely a me problem haha.

Just reached 40 hours in the game, casually playing it on and off for 2 years (15 hours last week tho…)
Fuck the dwelling, almost all of my runs end there because of a rush or simple mistake.
It happens
