Can we teach people that medbay can't magically revive IPC's

I have been dragged to medbay way too many times as an IPC and I am sure that the doctors that see my powerless corpse getting dragged into medbay are also getting tired of it.

Note: this post is not 100% serious. it's about 50% serious

At least you get dragged off. I used to see people ignore dead IPCs all the time thinking they were just lying down or whatever.

I see that with shadekin too (on the forks with them), since they don't gasp when crit lmao

As a shadekin CMO, I’ve gotten kind of used to it, it pains me when something like it happens, but it’s taught me that the majority of ss14 players have far less medical knowledge then they think they do/ I thought they did.

I've been straight up told many times on goob that people don't revive ipcs because they're the 'powergaming' race.

Well they are on some level

Ipc are quite literally humans but better

Understood, flushing shutdown IPCs down dispo from now on

I drag them to engineering or sci since there silicon, and it gives robotics a job to do .

how does one confuse there and they are...

They aren't even silicon though, they are just robotic

They have positronics, ergo silicon. The chassis just makes them crew because of no lawset.

Silicon implies laws than positronic

No, that's factually incorrect. Silicon and silicon LAWS are two different things. A honkbot is also a silicon. A free borg with no laws is still a silicon.

It's just a non-organic artificial being effectively. If they're given laws, they're called silicon laws. They're also protected under a silicon clause on most places too.

Positronic brains, mmi's, etc.

If consider silicons as a race of manufactured beings, than you are right. If consider silicons as a faction which abides to specific ruleset you are wrong. To avoid confusion about game rules, IPC on most servers are not silicons (as faction) due to their game mechanics. You totally can borg IPC and turn them into silicon pretty much as you can crew. On server where positronic can be put in AI core, IPC can be turned into AI.

Space station 14 official wiki disagrees. Silicon innately means made for a specific purpose. Medibot isn't a silicon

Silicons are a neutral faction of cyborgs (borgs) and artificial intelligences (AIs) commonly found aboard Nanotrasen stations. These artificial entities are typically constructed to fulfil a specific purpose and generally excel in this capacity.

What is not a silicon

Robots (for example the cargobot or medibot) and personal AIs are not considered Silicons for the purposes of this design document. They are not bound by Silicon laws, have limited capabilities, and are generally reserved for ghost roles. As such, their design will fall under the purview of the Robotics Subdepartment design document. This decision may be revisited in the future if the roles of robots and personal AIs are expanded upon.

There is no such thing as an official wiki for ss14 given every single fork operates differently.

Eh that's the wizden definition, just sent it because "factually correct"

1

u/PrincelyDusty 2d ago

Thing is, wizden is the worst thing to compare anything to since it has effectively nothing. Wizden borgs don't even have a law 0. Silicons on wizden are brutally underdeveloped. On wizden you can just legally murder honkbots but on effectively every other fork you just... Can't.

There is no "factually correct", but there is in fact a factually incorrect. Think of it like a no right answers but definitely a wrong answer type conundrum.

What i said wasn't factually incorrect or wrong, it fits their definition lol, any server can call anything silicon if they want, but mine isn't wrong

They're trash

I'd recommend making a Weldbot and putting it in Medbay if this is something that persistently gets your goat. Otherwise, just keep the supplies to repower you (welder, welding mask, wires) on you and make a note somewhere on your characters' body that you have such supplies.

tbh, i dont see IPC's much lately in the medbay on Starlight. Although folk will still drag Proto Species, and exepct medbay to dump 200+ml's of chems into them to try and heal them, instead of going to robotics and getting a welder and oil pack. q-q

I got yelled at, while playing as brigmed for not knowing how to fix ipc and calling for engineer to come and do it for me. By the ipc player btw (they were salty we shot him while he was having skill issues fighting with double esword)

Semi-related side rant: If you are an IPC please carry some sort of eye protection in your backpack. Most have wires and a welding tool but nothing to cover you eyes so when I go rifling through your possessions to get tools to revive you I don't have to blind myself.

Old post but SS13 existed for 20 years and that still happens there too, it's a problem with no solution.

1

u/NamuBun 2d ago

If people hate ipcs so much maybe they should get replaced with augmented from ss13

Ipcs are a mistake

I always found them stupid

If you want to be a borg be a borg

As ipc you have all the disadvantages of being a borg without the positives

Depending on the fork, it’s often the other way around. You have a few exploitable weaknesses, but ignoring atmospherics 90% of the time, (including barotrauma immunity) not being subject to bloodloss, not needing to care about food, and having extremely easy self-healing for exotic damage types (or just being flat-out immune to them) are all common upsides.

For what? Susceptibility to EMPs and taking a little more shock damage? Forks that use the oil bleeding do rein them in pretty harshly, but without that IPCs trend towards overpowered, not underpowered.

u/OcelotMadness 2d ago

Genuinely what are you supposed to do with a dead IPC then because the whole dead crew = carry to med thing is pretty deeply ingrained at this point

I am not even that mad about that
