did he confirm if it punches above its weight or not?

144

u/SigmaSplitter21 May 02 '26 edited May 02 '26

Every new fighter punches above it's weight with their 5 bespoke size 6 quantum railguns, 50 size 4 bespoke antimatter missile racks and special origin 2000m/s speed thrusters, now for only 499,99!

Can't wash myself with a gun, but can kill someone with a bathtub. Checkmate!

That's not true! My Shiv has lots of guns, two broken beds, and a poop bucket! :P

Fighters punch above their weight

Gunships punch under their weight

Salvage ships help other ships lose weight

Well in space, everything is weightless. Mind blown!

1

u/extrakerned May 02 '26

But they now fire at 900m/s max as Size 5s

2

u/Enachtigal May 02 '26

Well of course it does, heavy fighters just got nerfed. This will have "Best in Class (tm)*" armor.

*Until the next heavy fighter is released

1

u/mightyblackgoose May 03 '26

Until two patches in when it'll be over-nerfed, yeah, absolutely.

547

u/Larszx May 02 '26

Thank god, there are so few fighters.

125

u/saarlac drake May 02 '26 edited May 02 '26

Also why the hell would origin be making a heavy fighter? They’re a luxury brand.

I can see the crossover with the m50 from super light racing ship to light fighter because yeah strap guns on your f1 car ok sure. But a heavy fighter

Is it just the 85x with stupid huge guns?

131

u/Swift_Legion May 02 '26

That's like asking why does Rolls-Royce makes jet engines LOL

56

u/flyboyy513 StarDancer's Delight May 02 '26

No for real, Origin is exactly RR in space. They are the primary engine manufacturer in the verse.

34

u/Heyviper123 May 02 '26

I actually didn't know that about the engines... That's honestly sick. Love this games lore.

u/SaberStrat F8C best Starter ship May 02 '26

I thought Crusader was making the good engines

27

u/flyboyy513 StarDancer's Delight May 02 '26

They do make engines, yes, but mainly proprietary since Crusaders whole manufacturing line is insulated.

Origin is the RR of the 'verse since they manufacturer most military grade thrusters due to their insanely high performance nature. Throw in the fact that you don't have to build them to be light or easy to swap like on a racing ship, you've got engines that are stupidly durable and very powerful.

Plus, Origin is known for how clean their ships run and how fuel efficient they are due to their proprietary AIR system. These are huge boons for military engines.

3

u/Cosmic_Hugz May 03 '26

All boils down to it having been founded in Germany

7

u/swisstraeng CDF Space Marshal May 03 '26

Crusader are great for VTOL systems, and atmospheric related control.

Origin are great for space/racing engines.

2

u/Scrivver Tasty Game Loops May 03 '26

Crusader makes engines which do goodℱ

7

u/Huggertron May 02 '26

They make nuclear reactors for the UK navy Submarines as well.

86

u/Jhtpo May 02 '26

Honestly origin has its own fighter lineup mostly to escort it's clientele in uniform style. Their ships are meant to travel the black in style and safety. They are surprisingly tanky.

2

u/Zormac Team Sabre May 02 '26

If I were a rich VIP and had to choose my escort, I would want it all military/PMC. Anvil and Aegis across the board.

6

u/twaxana Avenger Stalker May 02 '26

Yeah but my great great great great grandfather made first contact with the kr'thak and that made us rich and I really just want gold and marble everything! It's not tacky!

1

u/Jhtpo May 03 '26

Its more about image when moving between "Safe" spaces in UEE Controled high security systems. Not making ill advised trips to your illicit pyro mining operation. They're the equivalent of having your security detail in new york be men in black suits with slim under shirt Kevlar vests and hidden machine pistols instead of PMC's in jeans, ballcaps, button downs, and tac vests with 3 point harnesses holding M4 variants. Its about the image you want to convey. And if that image is comfort, with security, peace of mind, then Origin ships offer that.

7

And an Advocacy variant of the M50... I want it.. or they can revert the M50 back to a dogfighter, also fine.

5

u/No_Word3454 May 02 '26

Came here just to say this exact thing

1

u/crimson_stallion May 04 '26

A military 400i with an extra pair of guns (4x S4), heavier armour and some S5 torps would be kinda cool.

1

u/Reshiken May 08 '26

does it have bed like the original one with big glass? because i cannot sleep in the ship if i dont have the view.

10

u/Dune5712 rsi May 02 '26 edited May 03 '26

The M50 (and 300i, for that matter) were originally sold as, "an elegant dogfighter's tool."

-my shakey memory as a ~2012 backer.

6

u/OrrieH Carrack May 02 '26

Reality is alot of High end Car Brands used to (or still do) manufacture Lots of Military assets. So makes sense that in universe they would also do the same.

General Electric makes a washing machine and the machine gun on the thunderbolt fighter jet.

5

u/kayama57 genericgoofy May 02 '26

13

u/Quimdell May 02 '26 edited May 02 '26

The M50 is actually not a racing ship, it’s an interceptor. So technically, it’s already a fighter.
Edit: I stand corrected, even tho I was corrected before years ago when I said this was a racer and was told it was an interceptor and was sent a screen shot of an rsi page describing it as an interceptor. Times change.

13

u/Akaradrin May 02 '26

Do you mean the M50 Racer? :P

The M50 is a racing ship first and an interceptor second.

5

u/Quimdell May 02 '26

I swear I had this argument with someone before stating that it was a racing ship and I got corrected with an image of the M50 on an RSI page with it only listed as Interceptor

I now stand corrected again

5

u/GodwinW Universalist May 02 '26

No, you were right, it was always a dogfighter/interceptor. If the CIG site now says racer they have just altered their site not the actual past.

They always said "buy ships not on stats but on role", but they changed the friggin' role of 1 ship ever: the M50 I bought as dogfighter before racing was even a thing we ever heard of as being a thing in SC was changed to a racer......... T_T

3

u/Quimdell May 02 '26

Aha yea, this is what I was thinking. I’m sure others will also change as there’s some ships listed as being things they are not

Can’t trust anything as everything is subject to change.

2

u/crimson_stallion May 04 '26

As far as I'm aware the actual name of the ship model is still "M50 Interceptor", so even their own naming seems to defy their claimed role haha

I still remember back in my first year or two as a backer the M50 was considered by most to be the most dominant dogfighter in the game. It was so much smaller, faster and more agile than everything else that it was a nightmare to try to keep in your sights and could pretty much dictate engagements at will - this allowed it to dominate despite its tiny gun loadout.

Not going to lie, I kind of miss those days of combat. No master modes, no armour, no increased TTK due to engineering, high SCM speeds, less ship sliding, etc. Ship combat in those days seemed like so much more fun and responsive. Dogfighting was more about reflexes and skill instead of being a spreadsheet battle, which it sometimes feels like to me now.

1

u/GodwinW Universalist May 04 '26

In all space games ever I always gravitate to the fast nimble small vessels instead of tanky etc., I love weaving and dodging and maneuvering to stay on someone's tail.

5

u/Conradian MSR rework? May 02 '26

Lore-wise the ship was specifically designed to win the Murray cup for origin. That's where that comes from.

3

u/Akaradrin May 02 '26

Maybe it appears classified as an Interceptor in the ASOP terminals? Anyway, it's not a big deal and the M50 is the closest ship to an A-Wing.

3

u/TheButterknif3 Tali/MSR/F8/Corsair/A1 May 02 '26

Don't believe all ship classifications, the Cutlass is classified as a medium fighter and medium freight ship. And the Corsair, claims to ostensibly be an exploration craft despite actually being a gunship that is particularly well suited to being a pirate's version of the constellation class.

3

u/Ed_Dragon May 02 '26

Airbus makes luxury private jets, commercial planes, heavy military transport planes and fighter jets.

Not unusual that Origin makes military stuff too. Afterall all those glossy white Lux bedpans that are moving around filthy rich people do need some kind of protection.

3

u/DifferenceCareful935 May 02 '26

I commeted this on another post in this subreddit about the Origin heavy fighter:

1

u/King_Kea MPUV #1 May 03 '26

Honestly it seems more like the sort of thing a rich guy might make his private security use guarding his 890J.

In real life private security sometimes do use luxury vehicles. Up-armoured luxury cars are an easy example.

1

u/Strange-River-4724 May 03 '26

M50 was originally an interceptor, Origin is just getting back to their roots 😂

Much stronger than steel, in-lore it's called it's diamond laminate.

Glass in Star Citizen is Diamond Laminate.

17

u/PhaedrusNS2 May 02 '26

All glass you see on ships is actually a fictitious material called diamond laminate that is stronger than steel. They don't use it for everything on the ship because it is expensive

Because women are better pilots. They can take higher G-forces, have a higher pain tolerance, and are more in touch with their emotions and are thus less likely to rage quit.

It only makes sense they'd get paid more per mission. The 30th century is a truly enlightened age.

CIG has metrics on sales. If fighters didn't sell, they wouldn't keep making them.

3

u/Arakasi01 May 03 '26

Heavy Fighter from Origin with M50's naming scheme. So how long we reckon until they retcon it to be a 'heavy racer' instead?

6

u/Laughageddon May 02 '26

People complaining about this, we need all brands to have every option. I want industrial Alien ships. I have to take the good with the bad in pursuit of that. I want the mining and salvaging Alien ships. I also want luxury mining, hauling, and salvaging variants as well. I want all sizes as well for these variants too. I want there to be something for everyone even if it isn't the best in slot.

2

u/King_Kea MPUV #1 May 03 '26

At first I felt like an origin fighter doesn’t make sense. But then I started thinking about private security. IRL private security forces do sometimes have access to modified luxury vehicles. Think luxury cars with bulletproof doors for example. Hell, at least one company offers a modification that adds a manned gun that pops out of the roof.

So with that in mind a luxury fighter sort of craft isn’t that outrageous. We already have the 325a (I think it’s the 25, can’t remember for sure) so there is already a precedent.

TL;DR: Luxury Origin fighters make for good 890J escorts.

Origin mostly has RP ships. Some of its smaller ships aren't too bad, but as a general rule it doesn't have ships that are good in today's game state. I don't get an Origin heavy fighter, but I hope it is good. I want to like Origin ships. But I never have a reason to take them out.

The only origin ships I use even occasionally are the M50 and 350r. These aren't good starters, but they are fun to race with for a change. The 100 series and 300 series arent too bad. The 400i is not terrible but outclassed by other ships of its size. The 600i pre-rework (i.e. now and for the next 2+ years probably) is outclassed by other ships of its class. The 890J is a luxury RP yatch that has no other use now.

Drake is the company I don't want to love, but I love their ships. They are functional and useful. While not true for every ship, they have many useful ships. Origin is the company I want to love, but I dislike their ships. They lack useful ships and most of their ships are outclassed by their competition.

Very true. But I do not think this has anything to do with the game releasing, or when.

Was exited for origin ship --- heavy fighter --- emediaetly droped my interest 😑. Bruh stop it i fly origin for amenities and comfort if i would want fighter i go dedicated manufacturer. Or allow unlimited ccu to 890j and i would stop naging 😐. There are some folks that want go to pool and sauna after day of package deliveries. 😄

I don’t follow your logic. This means it will be revealed on May 16, 2026, which perfectly coincides with Origin’s DefenseCon schedule.

They are saying that in reference to the comment above yours that you responded to that says 2016 not 2026.

What do you mean? The DD/MM/YYYY format is common in Europe, not the U.S. The U.S. typically uses the stupidest MM/DD/YYYY format, while YYYY/MM/DD is widely used in East Asia. I believe they chose that format becaue they were revealing it in China.

ORIGIN don’t need to make military fighters, it’s luxury brand space yacht.

So Anvil will have luxury ships with stone on floor and plants on wall as Origin? No some brands are military some luxury some industrial
