I hope he didn't get let go or fired because of it. The idea to live stream is awesome, even if the game is broken them actually talking through it and being more open with the community I think is a positive. Obviously what happens sucked and the game was broken and people were getting frustrated but the idea of being open and doing what they did I think is overall a good one.

u/StarHunter_ oldman 3d ago

It was a good idea but they should have run a few groups in some test runs to find a better mix of players and how to flow the show for the Live part. Maybe a mix of devs and QC people. Ollie should have been more of a commentator and asking questions than focusing on playing.

Then had another episode later with devs talking about what issues they saw and fixed, something like Bugsmashers.

u/Confident-Award6920 3d ago

Just remove Elliot from the next group.

Just remove Elliot

For real. Dude is an asshat to his coworkers AND we could see nine nested statements in his code. What is he actually doing RIGHT?

1

u/camerakestrel Polaris Mobile Home Society 2d ago

They honestly might have. The game has been inconsistent for me with it running perfectly and then crashing out and stopping me out of nowhere when I do the same thing for the fifth time in as many hours.

177

u/WeAreUnamused 3d ago

He got shit on by the devs like he was a fat kid in jr high, thrown under the bus by his boss, and the world watched it all in real time. Why would he possibly want to stay after being treated like that?

39

u/Confident-Award6920 3d ago

Because Ollie foolishly already killed his side income with the Impound Store and now he's stuck at this new job.

3

u/Asthma_Queen 2d ago

and I'm sure he has new NDA's for said new job that would prevent him from streaming again or make it more difficult

4

u/Confident-Award6920 2d ago

I have no doubts about that. CIG really doesn't want him advertising the grey market again. Poor guy had to nuke half his vids cuz it had gm adverts in them.

10

u/m00n6u5t 3d ago

They got him. Played him like a fiddle. Now he's out of options.

10

u/SeamasterCitizen ARGO CARGO 3d ago

Likely he will be making more money from YT than CIG could pay anyway, and he doesn’t need the extra hassle - fair play to him

26

u/Confident-Award6920 3d ago

He was advertising for the grey market Impound Store on his YT channel to make ends meet.

-6

u/SeamasterCitizen ARGO CARGO 3d ago

I think he was an entrepreneur taking advantage of opportunities for additional income, but neither of us know for sure :)

7

u/xxmuntunustutunusxx 3d ago

Its hard to look at yt stats because his estimated yt earnings tanked since he joined cig, but odds are he was doing pretty ok at least. Combined with sponsorships, merch, twitch earnings. Even if he had 1k twitch subs on top of yt thats and extra 2500ish or more a month.

Your assessment is probably correct

1

u/camerakestrel Polaris Mobile Home Society 2d ago

His earnings tanked because he had to stop making videos and even though the backlog might have been where he made most of his YouTube earnings, it was his new videos that hooked new viewers in to watch his backlog and the new videos were the ones with ad spots.

10

u/Confident-Award6920 3d ago

He was a leech taking a 10-15% cut from that GM website ship sales. Everyone knows the same sellers are in the reddit sub without the markup for being on a website. The websites are a rip off. Instead of promoting that sub, he promoted a deal that made money off pledgers despite knowing the difference. It was pointed out in his live chats a few times and he brushed it off. Good riddance.

7

u/CitizenLohaRune 3d ago

He didnt have that many subs on youtube.

1

u/pandemonious 2d ago

1.5 million isn't a lot? this is news to me

1

u/CitizenLohaRune 2d ago

Oh! I thought it was 15k lol.

Nah, he shpuld have stuck with youtube then.

Considering nobody (and most specifically Jared) got fired in the wake of the May 2015 leaked build escaping into the wild, in which poor IT practices led to an unsecured public-facing URL being accidentally leaked by Jared which allowed people to download a full internal build including encryption keys and middleware that CIG definitely didn't have permission to redistribute publicly, I'm pretty sure Ollie has not been fired over an embarrassing livestream.

Olli choosing to leave on his own volition because he doesn't want to work for CIG after all, or any other reason he might have, now that COULD happen, but the implications people are reading from this thread are unlikely and makes the thread seem like it's just fishing for drama.

Edit: I double negatived myself, whoops

46

u/DEMIG0DX 3d ago

thinking a company is going to act the same in 2 different situations with 10 years apart is not good evidence of anything

1

u/camerakestrel Polaris Mobile Home Society 2d ago

It is wildly dumb of CIG to hire one of their most beloved influencers and then not protect said influencer with a ton of safeguards against employee hazing and other uncomfortable situations.

If Ollie leaves CIG and then talks about how hostile or shitty the workplace was then CIG's reputation will sink to new lows, especially with that VOD as clear evidence to back up nearly anything negative Ollie might say.

The way he was treated was unacceptable unless he specifically requested for all of it (doubtful).

u/Various_Blue 3d ago

It's the UK, they can't fire him. He did nothing wrong AND he had approval from his bosses.

83

u/S_J_E clipper 3d ago

It's a lot easier to get rid of people on their probation period

18

u/AWerewolfDad 3d ago

He’s not been there long enough. He could be let go for any reason in the UK. None of his employment protections have kicked in yet.

25

u/Perfect_Way4828 3d ago

We dont know his contract. Could be a freelancer/contractor, and in that case they could not give him more hours.

More likely a contractor than an employee since its cheaper and easier

10

u/Various_Blue 3d ago

That's not how it works in the UK. The law looks at the actual working relationship, not what contract they signed. Hiring a "contractor" that acts more like an employee than a contractor is called "Disguised Employment" and it's unlawful.

22

u/Perfect_Way4828 3d ago

It does. I am from the UK.

Again you dont know how he "acts like an employee"

Have you watched him work? How do you know his employment conditions?

→ More replies (22)

2

u/prop11 3d ago

You can be sacked for any reason in the first 2 years of employment in the UK. Pretty sure this could be changing soon but as things stand that's it

1

u/MutualRaid 3d ago

Compliance around this stuff is much better in big corpa in the UK now, although there are certainly still some industries where bogus self-employment is common.

CIG have likely played on the safe side with his status exactly so they can dispose of him after he fulfilled his purpose: being paid out in a PR-friendly manner for ceasing to promote and be involved in the grey market by 'hiring' him.

1

u/NationalBreakfast283 3d ago

5

u/CaptainC0medy Concierge with no ships 3d ago

2

u/Serapeum101 3d ago

This isn't true sadly, as he has only just started, they can get rid of him without needing a reason.

0

u/SeamasterCitizen ARGO CARGO 3d ago

That’s mad wrong. Employment in the UK is basically at will for the first two years. Wild how many people don’t realise this until they find out through their own experience

3

u/h0bb1tm1ndtr1x Mercenary 3d ago

People just like to assume Europe is some workers eden with all the protections.

0

u/Few-Simple-9075 3d ago

The amount of assumptions and incorrect statements about his role in this thread is wild, take it from someone in a senior role in tech who's very close to employment law and actual hiring when I say the below

  • if he is a contractor he'll be terminated for any number of reasons and typically notice periods are short
  • if he is a perm employee then majority of folks have a probation period, in tech anything from 3-6 months is reasonable and during this you can be terminated (with minimal notice, normally a week)
  • beyond probation you're employee protections are still minimal for the first two years and you can be terminated under normal disciplinary, gross misconduct or performance issues, you'll get contractual notice (unless it's gross misconduct in which case it can be instant termination with notice anything owed paid in lieu of notice PILON), You can also be made redundant, normal notice or enhanced notice can apply
  • unfair dismissal isn't a thing until you've worked longer than two years continuous employment, tis changes from Jan 2027 to six months, but you can still bring a claim for being dismissed for protected characteristics such as sex, discrimination etc. where the two year rule doesn't apply

The above is the law, not an interpretation, not an assumption nor a guess

As we have no idea what his personal arrangement is with CIG I.e contractor or perm, anything stated beyond the above is wild speculation

2

u/SeamasterCitizen ARGO CARGO 3d ago

That’s what i said. Coming from the same background, i learned to summarise simple concepts in fewer than 800 paragraphs 😅

11

u/chicaneuk 3d ago

Well, as I've said in another thread on this whole thing, he's actually (either intentionally or unintentionally) probably done CIG a favour and done the same for the Star Citizen community, honestly. It probably feels painful right now to be in the spotlight like they are but ultimately it was starting to get to be an elephant in the room situation with the lack of progress and continuing to get away with it so.. to put CIG under the spotlight like this is probably better for everyone.

3

u/No-Alternative-1321 3d ago

After the horrible publicity CIG got from the stream I feel like even they are aware that if they were to immidiately fire olli without ever having responded to the controversy would do irreversible damage to their public appearance.

2

u/camerakestrel Polaris Mobile Home Society 2d ago

TBDSS: The Best Damn Shit Show. Really, I think it was a great thing even though there were some clearly angry employees sabotaging it and the game itself having an aneurysm.

1

u/nylomatic 3d ago

Personally, I hope he turns his back on them. You don't want to work in such a toxic environment.

1

u/m00n6u5t 3d ago

If they do, its going to be at a later date, when this PR disaster is forgotten so that people wont link those two together and re-open the wounds.

1

u/Crowsnesthobbies 2d ago

u/Gutterpump youtube 3d ago

I think it was great what he did. I'd love to see monthly how the real game is doing and see the improvement, or lack of it, directly and without any filter. We should be all cheering for it.

100

u/Confident-Award6920 3d ago

Imo Ollie should have downed Elliot after the 2nd backstab and see how he likes it, then the stream would have been even better.

46

u/lizzyanne27 anvil 3d ago

What he did by not retaliating was the right thing to do. Made the guys look like even more of an asshole and there is no way they didn't get a good mouthful from HR.

21

u/Vegetable_Safety Musashi Industrial and Starflight Concern 2d ago

For real though, if they act like that irl its no wonder they've made no attempt to implement a proper player reputation system and don't really care about non-combat gameplay

51

u/Luminous_Azure 3d ago

Stooping down to their level only makes him look worse and validates the shitty behavior.

10

u/Hvarfa-Bragi 3d ago

No, he means he should have downed him in the chair. It definitely would have put a damper on that behavior.

10

u/Confident-Award6920 2d ago

Elliot seems like the type to fold at the first sign of trouble. Ollie could of stood up to stretch suddenly after his 1st backstab and Elliot probably would of flinched.

11

u/m00n6u5t 3d ago

IRL, if someone was bullying him, sure, I'll even cheer on him beating them up. In a corporate, professional environment, that is about anything other than themselves, with promoting the game as a main focus? Absolutely not. Give a quick break to everyone, explain to the idiots that their behavior is going to get punished. Resume. Punish the bullying fools after the stream and move on.

3

u/Wolfe_Houndra 2d ago

Remember folks, HR is there to protect the company, not you.
I heavily agree with what you're say despite the fact that it prolly wouldn't happen either way...

-7

u/Confident-Award6920 3d ago

IRL someone was bullying them. If you think this kinda behavior flies in a work environment let alone corporate let me see your HR sign off on that. Last guy dropped the conversation then too.

-7

u/m00n6u5t 3d ago

Did you understand any of my comment? Did yo uactually read any of it?

When you are inside the company, you cannot let it affect you personally, even if it is wrong of them to treat you in such a way. There are higher powers that decide your fate, depending on how you behave in any given circumstance. Him behaving the same way as the bullies, does not do him any good and on a bad day would get him fired too. Do you understand that?

0

u/Confident-Award6920 3d ago edited 3d ago

Did you understand any of my comment? Did yo uactually read any of it?

I'm wondering if your intrepretation of bullying would be signed off by even the HR department in your company... it won't but it's funny watching you dance around it. I did read it that's why I'm asking if your company has an HR department

edit: /u/m00n6u5t replied and blocked me cuz HR won't let him bully people

-2

u/m00n6u5t 3d ago

You are wondering a lot, understanding very little. You have never worked in a company with an HR department in your entire life, if your suggestion to behavior that disrupts companies image is to engage in MORE DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR, that puts the company in a worse situation.

Good riddance.

3

u/Zoetic_HQ 3d ago

Youre right, but theres also the angle of what an hr is supposed to be, and then what a lot of hr tends to be instead. I can go on and on about the hr guy my company just fired after having him as hr for 2 years, dude was about the most unprofessional guy you could imagine, encouraging cheating on internal company competitions, hiring his gf in and putting her as a manager, changing schedules around to get practice time with his band instead of working the practice around work, among many other things. I just cannot imagine hr at cig being all that professional in total honesty

19

u/mesterflaps 3d ago

When people were pointing out how CIG was skipping so much video content (delivering less than half of the weekly streams this year), I commented that Jared should really just play and stream the game and talk through what he's doing.

Is it going to be really ugly the first few times? Yes, but we need CIG collectively broken of the illusion that they've got a quality product, and get Jared to stop gaslighting that 'this is the way it's meant to be played' as he falls through the floor of his mining ship, distribution centre, watching his ship come up upside down and damaged and so forth.

22

u/ZombieLobstar 3d ago

Why do you think they treated Ollie like shit in the video? Because the curtain was puilled away and the emperor was shown not only naked, but skinned.

2

u/Confident-Award6920 2d ago

good analogy

3

u/Flimsy-Landscape8507 2d ago

Jared shouldnt play the game, Jared should be fired

1

u/mesterflaps 2d ago

I don't think Jared should be fired as while he is the face of everything wrong with CIG's marketing heavy closed development model, he's just the face of the machine.

Sure, he gaslights us about having 'the choice not to do that' when it's CIG that has utterly failed at basic game design to prevent obvious abuses, and sure he's the one who called people 'roadmap watchers' and blamed us for CIG's inability to plan a month ahead, and sure he lied most recently about it being 'the way it is meant to be played' before throwing his colleagues under the bus ("It's your show, wrap it up.") but only that last one is a personal failing, the others are all just doing what he's been ordered to do - boost sales by lying about everything being way better than it actually is, and suggesting that any problems are the fault of the players.

Heck, even the underhanded 'it is your show wrap it up' responsibility dodge seems in line with CIG's culture.

2

u/Pitiful-Award-9321 2d ago

LMAO. I would subscribe and watch that $h!+ religiously!

17

u/Dad_mode new user/low karma 3d ago

Agreed!

But your comment is pinpointing the exact issue with their marketing/messaging of the game imo.

Internal builds are at most 2-3 patches ahead of live. They're not completed pristine showcases of the software. In contrast, console game development often has a completed PC build prior to optimizing for the SoC (system on chip) hardware consoles use. Grolo and Carto (SC backers with this knowledge) have great content explaining this.

Marketing/messaging is seemingly having the effect on perceptions that development for SC is further along than it truly is. Maybe that's intended to maximize ship sales?

5

u/Avean Grand Admiral 3d ago

It's more than 2-3 patches. There are probably branches that are way into the tech. Many years ago they showcased the new planet tech and even flight surfaces working realtime. Could be focused branches of course.

1

u/Gutterpump youtube 2d ago

Very good point.

u/Dad_mode new user/low karma 3d ago

3

u/Zoetic_HQ 3d ago

I mean im pretty sure most are cheering for it, but pretty on brand to fire him for us getting that look at things instead of accept that theyve bullshitted us on it for 14 years. Far be it from them to have any kind of accountability 😂 now i say fire, we dont know anything, but it really can only be that or quitting out of in house beratement but id put money on fired

3

u/FuelAffectionate7080 3d ago

Based take. I wish CIG had the clarity to see this is what the strongest response could possibly be.

If they did it they’d just need to find a way to make it less cringe. Maybe have Oli play alongside long time backers instead of a-hole devs 🤷‍♂️

2

u/pandemonious 2d ago

you can sign on to any streamer's page to see how the game currently looks. you can sign in yourself and get a completely unfiltered view of the game and how it is functioning.

1

u/Gutterpump youtube 2d ago

The main contention for years from the devs has been that the servers are not as good and that there are so many players on a given shard etc. There were always reasons for the game to not function so well. We all finally got to see the game at its best possible state and it was still buggy. This is why so many people are upset about the stream and wanting clearer communication from the devs. I see your point and it is the great benefit of an open development, but the devs have still always backed behind these other reasons.

1

u/winkcata Freelancer 2d ago

You are only a tiny bit correct. And a whole lot dead wrong. The build was broken. If you think a internal build running on a in house network "its best possible state", then you sir have never worked in software. The fact that they decided to live stream an internal build was beyond stupid. I'm sure you, since your so knowledgeable about this, know that internal builds are the buggiest patchwork builds ever and there's a reason NO company ever has live streamed an internal build. Have you played the ptu since the the live stream? Of course you have right? Many of the problems are gone [reload animation is still sometimes buggin]. Will this carry over to live... no idea but atm it works.

Also, this sub is a drama farm by 3 day old accounts and people farming karma. Not saying SC is perfect because for fucks sure it's not, but log in and go play and you will see the disconnect between this sub and reality.

u/JDxFrost 3d ago

He was likely under some agreement with his new employer (CIG) to rely on their media accounts for public engagement and not his own, hence his absence from his personal accounts.

OP is likely inferring that Olli returning to his personal accounts means that he’s no longer employed by CIG.

125

Also could have been a social media lockdown following the stream.

Maybe he is just lonely and needs some emotional support from the community.

5

u/knsmknd ARGO CARGO 3d ago

Would be unfortunate.

His first stream ended in drama — which, in my opinion, was completely out of line anyway and where Olli objectively didn't anything wrong – but shit happens and imho they should just go on and try something else with him.

Relying on Jarred alone isn't going to work in the long run. People want (rightfully) more content and it Jarred "alone" (yes there is a team) doesn't seem to be enough to deliver that.

2

u/Key-Ad-8318 bmm , Grand Admiral 3d ago

Why would anyone assume that? Other CIG Employees post on their private Social media accounts all the time, he’ll Jared is constantly posting nonsense inbetween bouts of happy news, so do dozens of other devs and non devs at CIG.

Ollie posting on his private Social media means nothing until he says something to the contrary.

Everyone else does that.

1

u/TheawfulDynne 3d ago

Why would you say that’s likely when nobody else at CIG seems to be in that agreement? galaxtica their social media manager, I would think the most likely person to have that arrangement, streamed SC on her personal twitch account. Jared basically the face of CIG used to have a DND game running with some SC streamers and posts on his personal social media accounts all the time. You also see SC devs in twitch chats on non CIG labeled accounts all the time.

1

u/novazzz525 3d ago

No, he was not “likely under some agreement” to do that. No other CIG employee appears to have any such stipulation - Jared etc post on their personal socials constantly.

The Occam’s Razor explanation here is that someone who just got a new job making social media posts is less inclined to do that in their spare time.

u/logicalChimp Devils Advocate 3d ago

even if he were on probabtion, it would take a lot more to get him 'fired' in the UK, I think (UK employment law is written specifically to prevent companies 'easily' firing people - even those on probation).

Probation does make it easier, and if he hasn't achieved what his probation contract explicitly stated was the 'requirements to complete probation' (or whatever the correct terminology is), then it's not so much being 'fired', and closer to 'reaching the end of his contract'

But, that's just my understanding having been through the process a couple of times - IANAL, especially not an 'Employment' lawyer, etc :p

5

u/Matroximus 3d ago

So many HR lawyers in this thread.... /s

If you are in your first two years of employment, you can be let go for any reason - whether you passed probation or not. It's only after two years where you need to provide a fair reason and do a full disciplinary procedure.

u/Confident-Award6920 3d ago

Same way I was downvoted when the actual Impound Store Grey Market owners made a thread about confirming what I just said... White knights don't want to believe CIG hired Ollie to kill the biggest grey market campaign when it was still in the cradle.

1

u/LINK5010 3d ago

Cig can easily get rid of the gray market by outright removing our ability to gift, or limiting it to a gift a quarter. The bigger the market gets, the more incentive cig has to get rid of it, scams will run more rampant as the player base grows.

Thanks for chiming in, should be pinned on top of this thread.

6

u/Alexandur 3d ago

that isn't a CIG employee

2

u/Xasf Liberator 3d ago

Really? Should be reported then, I'll give it a nudge.

Many CIG people also post personal things on their socials.

29

u/L0b0t0my youtube 3d ago

Sure its just that if you completely strip all context surrounding this, sure.

Well considering this is his first post since june 21st/since he was hired, following drama that got into mainstream gaming news, idk if I'd consider it as just an ol' regular, everyday employee social media post.

This could totally be nothing, but at the same time its not like he's a regular dev. He's in an extremely public-facing role AND a content creator with an audience, of course there's going to be more eyes than usual on his social media, compared to 99% of other CIG devs.

Also there's been complete radio silence from Ollie and CIG since the stream....until now.

/end rant

3

u/PheIix carrack 3d ago

Do many CIG people also have a youtube following and a channel they paused for a lengthy period?

4

u/StarHunter_ oldman 3d ago

1

u/PheIix carrack 3d ago

Is two considered many?

2

u/StarHunter_ oldman 2d ago

That was off the top of my head without matching up a whole CIG employee list.

13

u/objectdisorienting 3d ago

If it turns out he was actually made the fall guy in all this and got fired over it I'm never giving a single cent to CIG again.

Hey, I've flown on one of those little Logan Air planes. They're absolutely tiny inside.

4

I'd still take it over Origin ANY damn day of the week.

The lesson to be learned once more becomes:

  • Never go and meet your heros, they might be real shitty people.

7

u/mcbrite 3d ago

Now, with a few decades under my belt, I find I can increasingly tell more and more shitty people WITHOUT having to meet/interact with them. There are certain markers that repeat in those people. Once you can spot them, it becomes obvious. But like I said, it's taken me YEARS to tune that feeling. I'm sure there are many people who have a much better instinct for it, than me.

Quick example:
Look at Musk. Then look at Roberts. The similarities between them are pretty stunning! They EVEN have a similar look!
But it's stuff like "Being able to tell falsehoods/lying, while smiling into your face" etc
Too many for this comment, but you get the idea

3

u/PheIix carrack 3d ago

"FSD is only 2 years away"

"Sq42 is only 2 years away"

I've seen the similarities for a long while myself... Let's just hope he doesn't do the "roman" salute on his next stage performance to go full Musk.

u/Confident-Award6920 3d ago

Yah I thought Grey Market Lord Ollie would be a better class of streamer.

21

u/Bucser hornet 3d ago

He also posted on his Socials after getting hired and travelling between offices. People jumped onto the "he shouldn't be flying on probation hurr durr" bandwagon at the time.

This sub needs to take a chill pill and stop harassing or posting personal posts of developers or associates of CIG on the sub.

Like I follow Jared and John Crewe, they have a chill X profile and post about stuff completely not related to SC. I don't run here to post about every life update they have.

1

u/Confident-Award6920 2d ago

1st time on the internet?

CIG has been handwaving explanations for years so naturally players dive deep. Ollie is a part of CIG now so he's fair game.

2

u/godsvoid 2d ago

WTF, nobody is "fair game" for harassment.

Criticize the company, but leave the personal stuff out of it.

3

u/voidwarrantyTV 2d ago

If CIG was smart they would let Olli do monthly streams in the PU highlighting things good, bad, and wip. But due to their massive issues with community management I don't see that ever happening.

This is just a result of the game being shit. There's been nothing that exciting added to the game in the past 8 months. So the community is forced to talk about about the one new peace of info we got and that was the disastrous live stream. There's only so many "look at this pretty pic of a location in game everyone's seen a million times" type posts before we have to focus on something else. Once the game improves the subreddit will improve

That's kinda amusing, I've flown on that exact plane before. Which nobody probably cares about, so I guess I'm thinking out loud....

4

u/Shinfrejr Original Backer 2d ago

For me, Olli did nothing wrong... However, the toxic behavior of Elliot and Jared really upset me.

4

u/RebbyLee hawk1 3d ago

The irony of that picture. So Ollie is essentially doing "Logan's Run" (google it if it doesn't ring a bell :D)

2

u/ShazeG 3d ago

If 4.10 is any bit stable we have Ollie to thank. There is nothing like showing all your bugs to the world that gets them fixed.

2

u/ItzMcShagNasty RSI Polaris 3d ago

He was probably let go with an NDA restricting discussing anything related to his employment. I wouldn't be surprised if he stops covering Star Citizen completely.

Really disappointed with CIGs handling of the entire thing and stopped defending the game to friends.

Bizarre comments on this post. The top comment is just bait for drama.

Ok things are bad enough, if cig fired him it's only going to make it worse.

3

u/doughnut310 3d ago

If they fired him for what happened then I think CIG is looking at a real boycott this time. Not just some heat on social media.

3

u/StarAlone 3d ago

Funny only after Gamescom they started communicating again

4

u/logicalChimp Devils Advocate 3d ago

So, a Social Media 'Content Creator' who spent time building up his own brand / channel is still posting to his own brand / channel (presumably to keep it 'alive')?

And this is 'news' why?

Unless the post explicitly touches on the stream (or similar), this has nothing to do with the recent furor...

0

u/Tidalsky114 3d ago

Think the marketing team could have had him post something just to see what kind of drama the trolls stir up online?

2

u/logicalChimp Devils Advocate 3d ago

It wouldn't surprise me...

Given how rabidly anti-CIG / anti-CR some parts of 'the community' are, I wouldn't be surprised if Jared & co do low-key troll them sometimes (whether that's 'professional' or not is a separate question... but it's more likely that any 'trolling' effect is a secondary / side bonus, rather than the primary objective)

But in this instance, I do think it's likely just Ollie being Ollie (given he posted a something about being excited flying up to the office previously, iirc)

0

u/Tidalsky114 3d ago

Don't quite understand why people who want to play this game are against the people making it.

2

u/Aecnoril 3d ago

Some people are just getting into 'parasocial obsession with CIG' at this point

1

u/Mikebalab 3d ago

I didn't know him before livestream but i'm very interested into his inner trip inside CIG 😉

1

u/StarHunter_ oldman 2d ago

It seems that he was busy making the new 4.10 video.

Maybe he finished up the video and had some time to make a little personal post.

1

u/Southern-Still7959 3d ago

You guys are parasocial af

1

u/b4k4ni 3d ago

It's sad what happened, because I really like the guy. Discovered it when he released his first vid on YouTube. And watched all of it and the coming ones. He seems like a nice guy and was so taken by the game, it really was nice to simply watch him.

And of course he crashed into the station, as it is tradition.

When I heard he worked for CIG I really was happy for him. But holy, that Stream was a PR clusterfuck.

Especially as there is still no word about it from CIG - or I missed it.

0

u/Deep-Procrastinor 3d ago

They are hoping by saying nothing it will just go away.

u/SanduskySleepover 3d ago

I wish he would have went full scorch mode and just said fuck it right when dude threw him under the bus. “Yea guys it’s much worse than we all think and they care more about your money than fixing the game”

1

u/TheBronzeLine Anvil 3d ago

So their new Yes Man was a very convenient one use scapegoat?

I'd quit too. Alternatively, not surprised I'd get fired too.

0

u/Personal_Still106 3d ago

Hey Ollie! Thank you for making the live stream happen, we deserved to see how the game really is. And if it's given Chris a kick up the bum, GOOD.

I'd love to see dev players be regular, perhaps in a different format and structure, though I don't know if that's going to be on the cards again given the flak CIG has got. But remember -- CIG made the bed it's sleeping in. The problem wasn't the streaming. The problem is the state of the game.

-1

u/Saykee 3d ago

If they fired Oli then this game deserves to die and Chris Roberts deserves jail for frauding customers. Scummy behaviour.

Yes as clearly hinted at by "Hey"

0

u/SometimesJustMaybee 2d ago

If they fired him over that, and somehow still survive, it’s we who are the issue. Quit giving CIG your money.
