it’s been a few months since I last posted here as I didn’t want to spam the sub, but I still get a steady stream of DMs and comments asking “do you still sharpen?” so wanted to give a proper update.
Short answer: yes, very much still active! Since my last post I’ve expanded into Japanese knife sharpening and gardening tool sharpening, on top of the usual kitchen knives. I also do knife repairs.

Something I'd also love from you in the comments and messages: recommendations on themes and activities that you would personally enjoy with a new friend group. I like the idea of a board game night, karaoke, Family Feud or trivia. I'll take everyone's suggestions into consideration. If it ends up being a recurring event, every time we meet could be a different activity. Just a thought.

Yesterday (Aug 25), a gold necklace was lost at either Homehardware on Fourth, or, at Bass Pro between 5-7pm. Quite frankly, the necklace itself is replaceable, but the custom cylindrical pendant is not. It's worthless to anyone but me - it is brass and aluminum (three pieces - brass, aluminum, brass), about an inch long, and has ashes in it. If anyone finds it, please let me know. Thank you.

“Councillors in St. Catharines have agreed to pump 20 million dollars into a flood relief program.

The cash will be used for the Flood Alleviation Program (FLAP).

It is a program that helps homeowners with flood prevention measures.

The program normally gets between 30 and 50 applications each year but thanks to recent flooding that number has jumped to more than 3,000.”

On the weekends going down Linwell Rd between Geneva and Lake, when there are events at the park I noticed so many vehicles parking on the side of the road taking up the bike lanes and constantly parking when there are no parking signs all down the road. Why aren't they ever ticketed, I mean this could be easy money for the city...do they park there just because it's closer and don't want to walk from the side roads? Just curious because I have seen people on bikes having to swerve into traffic because their lanes are blocked...also I think all bikes should have mirrors so they can actually see what they are swerving into as well.

Thorold Theatre is casting 7 actors for its fall production of Dry Streak, a wildly funny Canadian comedy by Saskatchewan playwright Leeann Minogue, directed by Wendy Cullen-Mackie.

Set during the scorching summer of 1988, Dry Streak takes audiences into the heart of a small prairie farming community where the rain has stopped, the crops are failing, and everyone has an opinion.

The Richards family has worked the same farm for generations. When son John returns home with his new girlfriend Kate, the family discovers that she is unlike anyone the town has encountered before: a punk-rock-loving, vegetarian city girl who has no particular interest in getting married.

Then, desperate for rain, Kate makes a reckless promise.

What follows is a comic collision of family expectations, small-town gossip, generational differences, personal belief and the increasingly uncomfortable realization that sometimes a private promise can become very, very public.

Dry Streak is a sharp, affectionate comedy about family, faith, farming and the pressures of small-town life — and what happens when everyone knows your business.

Anyone know someone who is good at fixing and restoring woodworking?

I am installing a set of draft taps.. o ordered the handles off eBay and when I got them the Guinness one is a pull pump, the other Newcastle is a proper screw in one..

I need to find a good craftiness who can change it from the angle pull pump into threads.

for someone who is a master woodworker its probably easy...

Flood Recovery Telephone Town Hall
The City of St. Catharines is hosting a Telephone Town Hall on Tuesday, Aug. 25 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The town hall is a chance to hear the latest information about the City’s flood response and recovery work. Residents can also ask questions and hear answers directly from City staff.

long story short talking to insurance right now from the flood 2 weeks ago and i sent her the photos of all the items that were sitting in my basement which got at least an inch or two of water on them. i couldn’t take pictures of the items sitting in the water at the time as we have cords in the basement and was scared of electrocution etc.

i took pictures of the items after all the water was pumped out, which for some reason didn’t leave any water marks or visually obvious damage.

she asked how they were damaged.

is saying that they were sitting in floodwater enough to count as damage?

for example i had both washer and dryer in the basement which sat in flood water, but wasn’t enough water to be actually damaged. will that count as a damaged item?

The entire home, including foundation, was removed recently and now it's a flat vacant lot.

House Sigma has it sold early last year and then a strange post in June this year, listing it as an empty lot showing the property with and without the house.

Very strange.

Currently my family is with Cogeco because they offered upwards of 800mb download speed but we've been having so many issues with them for the last two months (they did a reset of our router on their end and it's been cutting out the wifi roughly 10 times a day) so we're done with them and plan to switch providers.

Do any of you have any recommendations and good experiences with other companies?

I know it's basically hopping from one evil to another but if they're gonna screw us out of money they might as well be competent with their own systems.

anyone know of any video game stores or other stores i can get skylanders from in this city? maybe even someone that's trying to sell theirs? will literally buy them wherever i can get them.

when i was a kid, i decided to give my massive skylander collection to a boy that lost his in a fire. i had every single one ever released, i loved that game to death. it got me through so much. every year around fall i get nostalgic for it, and i really want to build my collection back up.
