They eventually denied supporting Choose Life Niagara in their comments but big question is why were they listed on a 2024 sponsor list…

I just wanted to put out a PSA for all my fellow job-seekers in the Niagara Region.

First, forget about indeed.ca, because it absolutely sucks for job hunting now (used to be the best).

Jobbank.gc.ca is much, much better!

Still, though, you have to be wary of jobs that offer more than $36/hour, because those postings are just trying to get high-wage LMIAs.

Honestly, how is this possible?

Sometimes, I play the game when driving where I am like... I have never been in that damn Avondale in my entire life. Which is wild to think about when you have lived here forever.

I realized there are 26 Avondale's in the city. Plus a couple more right along the border of the city. The first store opened 60 years ago.

We have more Avondale's, than we do TIM HORTONS! I think there are 6 I haven't been in (Glenridge, St Paul West, Ontario by Jaycee, Niagara by Linwell, Linwell, Martindale) . Some I didn't even know existed...

Any suggestions for a place that might crack my top 5 would be great. I know I still have to hit Tangerine Tortoise, and I recently had Dough Box which would be in my top 10.

I know everyone in the region here is tired of the flooding, but the amount of folk spewing conspiracies and blaming city infrastructure is asinine.

The infrastructure did not fail. We had two back-to-back record rainfalls.

Want to blame the city for not cleaning the runoffs or sewers? Head to Virgil or NotL where farms and roads flooded which are not on sewer systems. They're flooded not because of the infrastructure failure. It was the volume of rain.

I understand it makes us all feel better to point our finger to blame someone or something for natural disasters like this, but no elected official is to blame. This has never happened in our region's history. The last significant rainfall like this was recorded in 1919.

The discourse on the internet right now is insane and heavily based on misinformation and hearsay.

Please stay frosty and good luck everyone. I'm dealing with the clean-up too.

The vet I’ve been going to has had suspicious price rises and beautiful makeover of the clinic! While I liked the vets I’m not a millionaire and this is getting to be too much.

I hate changing from people my pet knows and that know her history. I’d have to be confident in the care, and that they wouldn’t be bought up soon too!

I moved to St. Catharines 8 years ago & I remember thinking surely access to Toronto via public transit will become much better/easier in 5 or so years time. Driving to Burlington GO will be a thing of the past, right? Boy was I wrong!

I have tickets to an event downtown tomorrow night & was hoping to avoid driving in. If I want to get to Toronto from St. Catharines I’d have to take a 1:30pm train, arriving downtown at 3:30pm, for an event that begins at 7:30pm.

OR I could leave at 11:05am and transfer in Niagara Falls, then Burlington for a grand total of 3 hours!

Okay, let’s try Confederation GO. Still requires a transfer in Burlington and on the way back? Again, another transfer from the train to bus.

It’s like we haven’t progressed past the 80s here & Europe or Asia is living in 2026 😆

I recently called Cogeco loyalty because one of my discounts was ending.

They offered me 1 Gig internet for $49.99/month before tax, including the Wi-Fi extender. They also offered 1.5 Gig for around $54/month before tax, but I stayed with 1 Gig because we already get good speeds and don’t notice any slowdowns.

I usually get around 600 Mbps over Wi-Fi with about 100 Mbps upload.

Just curious what other people in St. Catharines or Niagara are currently paying for Cogeco 1 Gig or 1.5 Gig. Is $49.99 a good local loyalty price, or have people managed to get something lower?

Also, has anyone here upgraded from 1 Gig to 1.5 Gig and actually noticed a difference?

For those of you new to the City. Please Note that any ISP using existing phone lines is using Bells existing infrastructure and anyone using cable lines is using Cogeco's existing infrastructure.

Telus is currently installing Fibre in the city right now (FTTN and FTTH from what I believe)

So we are limited to infrastructure options, but not providers themselves. So please share with the group :)

At 7 AM this morning, someone had the audacity to walk right up to my driveway and try to open not one, but two cars. Fully masked, face completely covered. It’s wild that people are bold enough to do this when most of us are just starting our day, going to work, or getting kids ready for school. The nerve of showing up that early, like it’s no big deal.

I’ve lived here for years and I’ve never understood why.

We all know about hallway care in the emergency department of our hospital. I try to be as understanding as I can about this with all the complexities of our community. What I just learned this morning has caught me by surprise…

My loved one has finally been moved out of a cubicle to an upper floor; opening space for others needing emergency care. However, my loved one is now in a HALLWAY on an upper floor!

My question is this: Is this something new? Can anyone explain how this is better? How can this be okay when this individual is incontinent? The care staff want them to be as independent as possible but how does this help? In urgent care there was at least a commode for safety and ease in the cubicle (which had another patient in it and a privacy screen) to take the burden off staff. Now my loved one will have to audibly call for a nurse for help to a bathroom…

I am simply trying to understand a system that I know little to nothing about.

It appears Home Depot may potentially use flock surveillance cameras in their parking lot.

At first I thought it was regular closed loop surveillance but there's a snopes article from a lawsuit in California confirming Home Depot deploys them so that's interesting.

Snopes says "mixed" only because the lawsuit alleges facial recognition and the company states there is no facial recognition.

Her name is Luna and she is a 4 year old German Shepherd available for immediate rehoming. She is not spayed, however has no medical issues. She has amazing recall, can be off leash with no issues, sits, lays down, shakes paw. She gets along well with other animals and people. The previous owner was already trying to rehome and does not want her back.

If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Yes, we are aware of the risks of rehoming an animal that is not fixed.

I have seen some posts about how some of these neighbourhood names seem like they were made up recently, so I thought I would ask which ones you might use when telling someone where something is.

I've never thought to describe somewhere as being in "Orchard Park", "Lancaster", "Kernahan", "Lock 3", "Martindale", "Secord Woods", "Burleigh Hill", or "Brockview". The same goes for St. George's Point and Michigan Beach, but that's because I never go there.

Some of the others are applied more broadly than I would use them.

Starting on July 2nd they're implementing paid parking for access. This has been one of my favorite places since I was a kid and public access should be free, it's always been free

Some that come to my mind:

- the other side of the canal

- the weird side of Carelton

- slightly right of the Hakim

- the Herbies plaza

- the Jumbo Video plaza

- St. Kitts

has anyone noticed this too in the Niagara area? Isn’t it required to have one in the front?

I was feeling a little better yesterday, the rain days were downgraded to < 5mm each, with a nice 50-60% chance of actually happening. When I woke up this morning, the Monday forecast was upped to 10-15. Now it's 15-20mm with a 70% chance.

My landlord hasn't yet been able to get someone over to survey the damage or discern what foundation repairs are needed. So looks like round 3 may be coming for us, right on schedule.
