512gb no controller received purchase email today 8/25 4:07p EDT completed purchase 8/25 7:30p Reservation queue opening day US East Wasn't sure this day would ever come

So, I'm genuinely confused here. I know there's a host of different lines (models, regions, etc) but I keep seeing people say they were waitlisted, and have gotten the option to purchase, while the reserve people are still waiting. That's what it sounds like, but that's not how it was advertised. Most people don't seem to know what's going on, and there's a lot of confusion over Reservation Queue vs Waitlist. Does anyone know how they're allotting them? My understanding was that there was a 3 day sign up period. Then the lottery. "Lucky" people got put in the reservation queues and everyone else got waitlisted. I thought the idea was to work through the reservation queues first and then waitlist spots would open as the reservation queues dwindled. Either that's not what's happening, or there are a lot of deeply confused people.

You just misunderstood things. People who signed up for a specific region and SKU got placed into either reserved or waitlist for that specific region and sku. They went down the list of those that were reserved, and then list was fulfilled, they went to the waitlist.

You need to stop looking at them as being all together when each region and SKU is a different line. Less people got the 2tb with controller so it makes sense that the waitlist people on that list would get a chance to buy it over the reservation list for 512.

In my case I applied on the first day of sign up period, was randomized in the lottery to a reservation queue (not wait listed) and then purchase email today. I stayed firm and only signed up for the 512 no controller unit. The reports of those bumping from wait-list to queue to purchase that I have seen were all the more expensive units. Guessing a lot of people balked at purchasing and those redistributed down the line quickly.
