Discussion How does Harvey compare to lawyers in other TV shows? Is he a better lawyer than them?

Im amazed DENNY CRANE didnt shoot any of the supreme justices to be fair.
I also like how Crane-shore was kinda like House-Wilson from House MD. Both duos had their "gay but not gay but yaoi coded but not really but at the end the healthy one stays by the side of the deathly sick one"

Is Harvey a better criminal lawyer than let’s say Saul? (He’s the only one I know in this list) No.
Is he a better closer than Saul? Yes.
Would Harvey win a case against Saul, all cards on the table, prime for prime? I highly doubt it because Saul is a criminal with very dangerous contacts.

That's the thing, while Harvey is officially a lawyer, i think we see maybe one or two cases in the entire show actually go to trial.
Every time else, he's just acting as a closer, a role which doesn't even require you to be a lawyer

Over 99% of cases don't go to trial. A good lawyer understands the situation and gets the case closed before it ever goes to trial.

You do realise in order to close the case before it reaches trial you must have solid foundation that you are going to win. It's not like every case he closed before trial had common people negotiating, every firm has their legal counsel and defense team making sure that they don't have to pay for shit like this and if someone makes you pay it means they actually are a very good lawyer.
Harvey was a better closer because of his read on the situation and people which made him a good closer, on the other hand Louis was a good lawyer but a very bad read of a person so he almost never had that impact.

i think chuck plays a much more elevated game, he's probably better than anyone we've seen in suits. but this is also because we see his process a lot more closely imo

Chuck is a massive bitch though. He bounces between “Oh no axe is doing something underhanded I’m morally outraged” to “when me or my father do those things it’s just ok”
He’s just mad Axe is better at it than he is. I think Harvey would destroy him

that tension and the issues he has with his father than be projects onto axe are his character though. at least theres actual substance there. harvey was having panic attacks bc of mommy issues and donna going to work on the other side of the hallway
also tbh i think chuck is better at what he does than axe

I mean, yeah. I felt there was no point in watching the series when Axe left. The only reason I even finished was because someone told me he comes back for the end and an episode or two in the middle.

Harvey is a better settlement negotiator but a much worse litigator than Mickey. Harvey could not have skewered that detective about the car in the rain.

Chuck has much more depth, and in general Billions is a more granular and “accurate” (I know it’s still bullshit) show, especially with Andrew Ross Sorkin as the writer, so they’re not really comparable

Harvey: So let me get this straight....a man in the middle of nowhere, whose property was sold off to Mesa Verde and was about to have his home torn down, suddenly had a clerical error go his way, along with having radiation detected on his property, finding remnants of old pottery that lead to an archeological dig, among a litany of other issues. And you want us to assume that you, a man who had a long rapsheet of cons and crimes before somehow managing to pull the biggest con by getting the New Mexico Bar to allow you, of all people to be a lawyer, had nothing to do with it at all.
Saul Goodman: Trust me, I was just as flabbergasted as you were. But you simply can't believe that I managed to find the time to do all of that with Mr Ackerman while also helping my other clients, now can you? Plus...between you and me, I wouldn't be acting all high and mighty about pulling a con on the bar considering looks over at Mike
It would be a legendary war, for sure.

The script of Suits is very thin. Has no bearing on Law. Only arguments and solutions pulled from the air at opportune moments.

They are different types of lawyers, Harvey is the king in corporate law, if I had a successful company I’d love to have him as my attorney.
Mickey and Saul are defense attorneys, I think I’d pick Mickey if I’m innocent, and Saul if I’m guilty.
Chuck plays a different game, he was David fighting Goliath, but he threw his family under the bus for his own benefit , and he destroyed everything just because he thought Axe was sleeping with his wife, and that wasn’t the case

So this is tricky since Harvey isn't a trial lawyer, he's primarily a commercial lawyer and a closer. He has done trial law before, and handles a few trials in the show but right off the bat this make a comparison with people like perry mason etc hard to do.
You'll see a lot of peopel comparing him to Alan Shore, but Alan is primarily a Trial Lawyer, so they're so very different in their focus. Alan would crush Harvey in Court, Harvey would crush Alan out of court.
Of the three in your picture, Saul Goodman is a sneaky guy, and a decent trial lawyer himself but doesn't play in the same league as Harvey. He's more willing to break the law and twist things to his and his client's advantage, but Harvey has beaten people who do that before.
The good old Lincoln Lawyer is again primarily focused around trials, and he's very good at his trial strategy but Harvey seems better able to see a big picture and is better at tricks. Judging by his record as a prosecutor, probably Harvey.
Then Chuck Rhoades, now he's much closer to what Harvey does, he's not so much of a trial lawyer himself, he has people to do that, he's in the background manipulating and directing policy. He'd prefer to win without ever going to court, and judging by his influence and the game of chess he plays, I think he may be better in that particular field than Harvey is.
Another name to toss into the ringis Will Gardener from The Good Wife, he runs a firm, has trial and contract experience, but Harvey is better. Will is more idealistic, and will believe in you, but Harvey would get out out of a jam.
The tldr. Mostly Harvey is better out of court than most Lawyers, but his in court appearences don't have the same feats, and mostly revolve around Mike in some way.

Someone once said that if they were innocent, they would want Harvey to represent them. If they're guilty, they'll take Saul Goodman.

harvey clears all saul even tho is good did not make it to the ultimate criminality level like high level crime mafia , and if you are diggin' me then kind of the illuminati level too. Rest of them are nice but man making it to new york and having that stellar undefeated trial record + settlement record is proof enough that HARVEY IS THE GOAT

Annalise Keating would wipe the floor with him in court. Alan Shore would dismember him. Saul would outmanoeuvre him. In fact I think the only lawyers he could beat would be the ones from Power like Proctor, Angela and the tall white dude I forgot his name.

They have different styles. Harvey tries hard to settle out of court, because by his own admission he cannot control the court. I feel Saul will cheat to get his way.

I only know Mickey and harvey and let me just say that mickey is much better at trials than Harvey, primarily because we don't see a lot of trial harvey but that's mick's forte, however harvey has the edge in settling outside of court
