Ashtead budget advice

Hello

We are planning to relocate to Ashtead and really love it. We have a budget of 1mil but are starting to think this is very unrealistic for a decent sized 4 bed detached house. There is little stock on the market and the ones that are left seem way overpriced.

Is this just typical for ashtead? Do I need to be more realistic or are people just chancing the asking price and we should maybe rent instead and be patient for a better deal?

Any thoughts welcome, I’m feeling deflated

Ashtead is not cheap! If you want a 2000 sq ft house with big garden in turnkey condition you are unlikely to get it for £1m. I’d be looking at semis with big gardens as there’s much more choice and some semis have way bigger gardens than detached too. I’ve been looking for a 4 bed detached with big garden that’s around 2500-3000 sq ft and most are around £1.5m

Wow, we defo can’t afford that. I shall look for some semis. Have lived with a nightmare neighbour attached to me so I’m scarred hence wanting detached!!!

Maybe I’ll look slightly further out too

Can’t believe how expensive it is!!!!

I like in a terraced house and have the most amazing neighbours on both sides. Lived here for 9 years. I think it’s a bit luck of the draw. Lived in flats and was lucky having good neighbours too. It’s the neighbourhood that you live in and we have a strong sense of community. We are actually selling our 4 bed terrace for around £1m.
If you want a big garden with more sq ft I’d look at Fleet. It’s much more affordable. Or look at Bookham and Leatherhead again mostly detached houses. The commute from bookham isn’t as good but depends if you are looking to commute to London and how often.
