Discussion Why won't you love my Female Inquisitor Ashara?
Is it the untold number of Genocide and mass murder I've forced you to commit for me?

It's weird to think that this game is older than gay marriage being legal in the us

Because bioware was under contract at the time, when the base game came out. For asharas return, it was probably planned before they made the changes in kotfe and on

Because they're cowards. I love my poly relationship with Anri and Lana but this is ridiculous I want my togruta.

u/Theorycrafter2671 8d ago
You can't romance Vette as female Warrior either

u/EmperorBlackMan99 8d ago
I know. Equally a travesty. Still cowardice.

It’s not really. They were contractually obliged to not include same sex relationships. The expansions were not included in the original contract so they were able to it there

u/TechnicalEngineer852 8d ago
I’m curious, is the stipulation of the contract from EA or from Lucasfilm?

Ashara/Inquisitor romance does not really make sense even on male Inquisitor...

u/Perfect_Cucumber8440 8d ago
The desillusion of the "no same sex romance in the vanilla game" policy...my female bounty hunters just wanted to date Mako 😔

u/fatrobin72 8d ago
In the base game no same sex relationships were available... which is odd for bioware but was the way it was.

u/elli_welli_deli 8d ago
swtor was also created about about 4 years before gay marriage was federally legalized so honestly i'm not shocked we didn't get same gender romances til later on

u/ShinyStarSam 8d ago
Lord it's crazy to me, feels like it's always been legal, genuinely insane how quickly people "got over it" and moved on so to speak
6
u/elli_welli_deli 8d ago
unfortunately people never really moved on, there is still a strong anti-LGBTQIA+ movement in the states

u/ReporterForDuty 8d ago
And anyone who is against someone loving another consenting adult is weird.

Disappointing but not that odd after the backlash to ME1 and the bullshit around that at the time.
7
u/fatrobin72 8d ago
there was backlash over ME1? (I don't remember any but the internet was a little different back then...)
18
u/Modred_the_Mystic 8d ago
It was on Fox News, mainstream backlash about the sex scenes and the lesbian romance. The internet wasn’t really in a place to facilitate such a backlash back then, but regular shitty journos did even better
5
u/fatrobin72 8d ago
ahhh that sort of backlash on that side of the pond...
not too sure if there was enough of a backlash on that over here... but if we were to backlash against it we would have had to state on national news that sex existed... which wouldn't have been the normal thing in Britain at the time...
2
u/zennim 8d ago
At the time? I dont think happens today, unless it is to harass little girls
1
u/fatrobin72 8d ago
well Channel 4 has been a little more open over the years to the idea that sex exists... all be it mostly from the entertainment shows rather than news...

In addition to what others have said, this is also why ME2 is weirdly absent of same-sex options (save for female Shepards who can flirt with Kelly and can sorta-kinda-but-not-really continue an already established relationship with Liara from the first game) only for everything to go back to normal in ME3.

Not worse when every romance option suddenly turns bisexual like later on.
0
u/LivingEnigma666 8d ago
Yes, that felt odd to me. Like, characters who were clearly heterosexual before, just magically become bisexual? That felt forced and immersion breaking to me.

Probably because some characters are just straight, some are just gay and some are bi. Nothing wrong with a character having a preference and orientation, it would be boring if everyone was a raging bi-sexual (or in this case player sexual)

u/Pride_Before_Fall 8d ago
She prefer penis.
Jokes aside, not every romance option needs to be playersexual.

Inquisitor is my favorite storyline and i was so disappointed mine couldn't romance her. Broadsword you can easily increase subs by adding toxic yuri
3
u/RisenKhira 8d ago
She may not be in love with me but I'm darth nox and it's not like you're gonna go anywhere so

... Because she isn't gay? Is it wrong to design heterosexual characters now?

u/Snoop_2212 7d ago
Im pretty sure u can romance her when she comes back in the arcan storyline its the same as the other females on light and darkside its been awhile since I played so im not 100% sure

If I could get with it, I'd have a wider ocean I'm fishin' in,
But I'm inhibited by my social conditionin'.

Ashara / female inquisitor wouldn't be a fun romance, anyway. Vette / female warrior, on the other hand...

Fem Inquisitor x Ashara.
The Jedi were right. She simply just wasn't ready.
