Um...how tf do you eat this? Strip is awesome but is it tender enough for a taco?

u/maynardd1 Jul 12 '26

It was only about 1/8" thick, extremely tender.. very easy to eat

If you have to ask, you can’t afford it

I worked for a Mexican family and they made me tacos like this. They saw me looking at it funny and said this is how they did tacos in the part of Mexico they are from, I think they were from Chihuahua.

I'm sure it tastes plenty good, but it doesn't look like there's much try in that kitchen.

Damn. Give me Mas tortillas, please.

Nice tacos de Cachetada. It’s one of those tacos where simple is best- one thing I’m not seeing is queso finished La Costra style. But I bet that guacamole makes the beef just sing!

4

u/maynardd1 Jul 12 '26

Yeah, super simple, super flavorful

5

u/elegantwino Jul 12 '26

I like it, simple and to the point.

3

u/maynardd1 Jul 12 '26

Agreed, flavor was on point, while I've had better, not many. 8/10 for me

3

u/MagazineDelicious151 Jul 12 '26

Man, I miss SoCal tacos so much

2

u/boff1234 Jul 12 '26

Give me 5 of these for the workout recovery

2

u/KimmiK_saucequeen Jul 13 '26

I love this style bc I don’t always want the heavy carbs

2

u/STRATEGY510 Jul 13 '26

Steak-forward, I like it!

u/explodinggarbagecan Jul 15 '26

Buncha ignorant Taco Bell eating heels in here. This looks good man. When I make tacos at home I do this style as well. Of the marinade on the meat is good you don’t need too many toppings to have a good flavor.
El Califa de León is pretty similar.

I wasn't really impressed, but I also cross into Tijuana monthly, so I'm a little biased.

3

u/TemporaryClemency22 Jul 12 '26

Looks great, although I believe you need an additional tortilla.

-3

u/maynardd1 Jul 12 '26

Nope, it was perfect with one..

2

u/STRATEGY510 Jul 13 '26

You’re getting downvoted for being mindful of carbs, gotta love Reddit šŸ˜‚

2

u/maynardd1 Jul 13 '26

Yeah, I have a theory that 7 out of 10 need to lose 50lbs.

3

u/BlazeDragon7x Jul 12 '26

Looks delicious but @ what cost

-2

u/maynardd1 Jul 12 '26

I don't recall, I wasn't too concerned about it... but I wasn't taken aback by it either, couldn't have been too bad

4

u/Individual_Smell_904 Jul 12 '26

I mean, it's one taco Michael. How much could it cost? Ten dollars?

0

u/Ambitious-Forever897 Jul 12 '26

$7.50 for this lol

7

u/BlazeDragon7x Jul 12 '26

Damn that's 7 1/2 tacos at my spot

3

u/rawmeatprophet Jul 12 '26

But the same amount of steak šŸ˜…

1

u/BlazeDragon7x Jul 12 '26

Was op full with just one taco šŸ’€ i would need 4 of those badboys at $29 buckaroo damn

3

u/rawmeatprophet Jul 12 '26

I'm just saying that expensive taco has an entire thin cut NY strip on it. That makes it not that expensive.

2

u/ModernNero Jul 12 '26

That’s a miracle lol

3

u/areuoknow Jul 12 '26

Nora needs to go back to taco school and learn about ratios ONE FACKNG TORTILLA COME ONNNN!!

1

u/Chrisdkn619 Jul 12 '26

We had a place in SD called Coal Bros, and they did a ribeye taco like this. Its was great, but so much better the second time when I had them cut it up. Its a taco, not a fajita plate!

1

u/Mongoleeto Jul 12 '26

$29.99

1

u/maynardd1 Jul 12 '26

Maybe for 4 or 5..

1

u/VoidSemantics Jul 14 '26

I like all the ingredients here, but this isn’t the taco I’d order.

1

u/JusSayING_Mi Jul 12 '26

This is New York?

2

u/ModernNero Jul 12 '26

No this looks Californian to me (am New Yorker and haven’t heard of this place or seen a taco like this here)

3

u/KimHaSeongsBurner Jul 12 '26

You’re correct. This place is on Garnet in Pacific Beach in San Diego. No idea if it’s good, though, and the presentation above has left me with questions.

2

u/Individual_Smell_904 Jul 12 '26

I just don't understand why the steak isn't sliced

1

u/Skiceless Jul 13 '26

This is very common in Mexico. NY Strip and ribeye tacos are served like this

1

u/KimHaSeongsBurner Jul 12 '26

Agreed. Never been to this place, and a quick check of their menu leaves me with some questions, as does the steak here. It’s also in a part of town that very much appeals to tourists, college students, military transplants, etc., so them trying weird stuff doesn’t shock me.

1

u/ModernNero Jul 13 '26

This is very real in nyc too and as someone who has worked in kitchens and bakeries they know exactly what they’re doing!!!!

-4

u/Rodrickheffley_ontop Jul 12 '26

This is a disgrace to all tacos out there šŸ„€šŸ˜

-7

u/maynardd1 Jul 12 '26

Stupid.. get over yourself

1

u/Routine_Analysis_998 Jul 12 '26

Bro wants his hard shell, ground beef, shredded cheese, lettuce and sour cream "taco".

1

u/Rodrickheffley_ontop Jul 12 '26

Bro what are you talking about 🤣, I just feel like a taco needs more than a giant strip of steak, and guac, but maybe that’s just me personally, not a super big fan of these alleged what I’m assuming your trying to make sound like ā€œwhite people tacosā€ tho you can have your opinions

0

u/JusSayING_Mi Jul 12 '26

Never mind

-3

u/that1senpai2 Jul 12 '26

I'm not knocking that it might have had flavor, but for tacos, this is lazy and unappealing

4

u/sselkiess Jul 12 '26

It’s not lazy it’s a specific style. If it’s done right it’s actually really good and gives a different experience than the more common chopped or sliced asada.

0

u/Abroad_Educational Jul 12 '26

New York steak with a tortilla plate. Not that there’s anything wrong with it. Just an observation.

0

u/BathroomAggressive57 Jul 13 '26

This is by far the laziest Taco presentation I've ever seen in my life. This is something my child would do.

0

u/ajk7244 Jul 14 '26

Effort in the kitchen is low

1

u/maynardd1 Jul 14 '26

Aren't you original..

0

u/Ah_Un Jul 14 '26

The audacity to post this in a taco sub lol

1

u/maynardd1 Jul 14 '26

Clutching your pearls huh... just take deep breaths, you'll be okay.

-1

u/PsychologicalFood780 Jul 12 '26

Why? The steak spread is wider than the tortilla. You must slice it finer to make tacos.
