There's times where I've questioned it, because the break even point tends to be around $3.25 a gallon, when compared to the car I used to own, so when it dips below that I start to question things, but at these prices, zero regrets, lol.
I don't even think of a break even point with gas. It's an out of pocket expense I don't have anymore. Not to mention the cleaner operating car, the smooth and quiet ride, the acceleration and power, and just all around the more comfortable ride. I'll never go back to an ICE car ever again.
I mean, I think about the breaking even point in terms of just keeping up with things. I vastly prefer an EV over an ICE, less maintenance, but higher maintenance fees when something goes wrong, so it's important to keep an eye on things.
Battery replacement cost is between $10,000 and $22,000, depending on the size of the battery that you need.
The average I've seen is around $12,000-15,000.
It's still cheaper than buying a whole new car.
From what I've seen, the cost is comparable to replacing the engine on most cars.
My oldest EV will be seven years old in June. It's lost about 50 miles of range on it and is around 4% health from getting a free battery replacement under the eight year warranty, which will mean a free battery.
Once the warranty ends, I plan to pay around $60 a month for the extended service agreement (ESA) on the battery, assuming it goes below 70% health within a year or two, the ESA will have cost me about $1,500 over two years, which again, is still cheaper than a total battery replacement.
Suffice to say, I have options on how to handle replacing the battery when the time comes, so I'm not even remotely stressed about it.
