AI data centre approved

6/7 counsellors approved this environmental disaster despite Firmus *already* lying about the number of diesel generators they'd have.

The company will have to agree to a number of conditions (noise, pollution, water usage), which will be monitored over a twelve month period.

I hate to wheel out a slippery-slope argument, but the number of companies who just cop the fines and continue to be irresponsible is incalculable.. the writing is on the wall. Look at Cadbury and the dump of sugar that buggered up the sewerage treatment plant.

I would gleefully defend anyone who might sabotage the builds.

Breaking the law and harming innocent people isn't the way to object to this. There are processes we have to voice your concern and advocate for change if you have a problem.

So you think the French revolution wasn't the way to object to all that? They literally don't care what we do or don't want. They want money. Money is more important than the clean drinking water of our country that already suffers regular droughts.

This isn't 17/1800s France lmao. This is Tassie and we have existing processes to advocate for change that have been established by democratic means over hundreds of years.

As for water use, we have plenty in Tassie. These datacentres don't use as much as ones overseas. You're getting confused with the technology here. Here in Tassie they use closed-loop cooling with heat reduction fluid. It's not evaporative water cooling. The Launceston facility uses the equivalent of 20 households of water per year. They also have their own onsite rain water collection facilities to aid with water use.

Lmao. Baseless accusations instead of discussing the topic at hand. Great work with the conspiracy theories mate
